The gear was made of SNC815 case-carburized, quench hardened and tempered steel. The gears were failed far earlier than the expected service life used in the industrial site. Causes of the failed gear were analyzed by microstructure observation. By the SEM and micro structure examinations, the damaged surfaces had been weared and failed by fatigue. Through microscope observation on the damaged surface, it was found that the cause of failure was determined by external overloading and the initial stage of the damage was closely related to complex contact fatigue failure. The overload and contact fatigue contributed to the early failure cause.

The pin bearing strength is one of the most important design parameters for mechanical joints composed of fiber reinforced composites. Thus the effect of the edge distance and the width of specimen on the pin-bearing strength of unidirectional CFRP composites were experimentally investigated in this paper. As results, the failure modes and the pin bearing strength of mechanical joints turned out to depend on the edge distance and also the width of specimen. The failure of specimen with low ratio of width to hole diameter was caused by the net tension from the hole boundary, on the other hand, the failure of specimen with low ratio of edge distance to hole diameter was caused by the shear-out. The bearing strength in case of the failure by shear-out was quite lower than that in case of failure by net tension.

Slope failures can be occurred by complex mechanism. In this cases, failures shows characteristics of complex failure mechanism during progressive mass movements. A case is a merged large slide with two sliding events triggered by slip on fault plane. Another case shows extension of failure area by sliding or subsidence at backyards of toppling areas. Generally, areas of progressive failures have wider than them of simple events.

We wanted to show the different group dynamics of factors for success and failure cases for technology commercialization in small technology-based firms. Existing studies are based on product level, project level, division level or firm level. We deal with technology level, and at small-technology-based firms. This is a longitudinal case study based on 8 cases from Korea. Our study on technology level is a first trial in success and failure studies unlike all existing studies. As a first step, we introduced new categories and factors such as technology attributes and CEO reflecting data, and especially a new concept of launch readiness level. Finally, we adopted correspondence analysis to show the group dynamics. The results are as follows; Technology factors are the most important factors. Second, resource-based factors are more critical in failure cases than success cases and technology factors are more critical to success.

A clinical case study of a shaoyangin patient diagnosed as congestive heart failure Congestive heart failure is dysfunction of heart that can't supply sufficient mount of blood required of tissue metabolism as a result of myocardial hyposystole. We treated 80 year-old female congestive heart failure patient with edema, dyspnea, chest discomfort, and dysuria. We have diagnosed her as shaoyangin(少陽人) pyohan(表寒) disease, infirmity, edema and have prescribed hyungbangjihwangtang(荊防地黃湯). In the result we had the improvement of the symptoms of CHF and general depressed condition. This report described the process and contents about the way the patient was cured.

This study describes the influence factors related to slope failure pattern and dimension in the southern Kyounggi area. Intrusive and metamorphic rocks are distributed in the study area. Geological condition, rainfall property and slope geometry are influence on slope failure characteristics in the study we& Geological factors related to slope failure are rock type, geological structure and weathering condition. Because of deep soil (RS-CW) depth of granite region, circular failure type is major failure pattern in granite region. Almost granite slopes with circular or surface failure pattern are failed during heavy rainfall season. But typical wedge failure type related to geological structure factor is a main failure pattern of metamorphic rock slope. Additionally failure dimension is influenced by geological factors and several factors, i.e. natural slope condition, failure type, rainfall intensity and etc. failure height/width ratio and thickness/length ratio of granite slope are 0.88 and 0.23. But the ratios of metamorphic rock slope are 1.36 and 0.19.

This article proposes to examine how the study of failure differs from other technical subjects, and how to turn failure experiences to one's advantage. The authors surveyed the properties of failures in PBL (Project Based Learning) and also examined students' interest and understanding of failure, after introducing failure examples. To investigate how students communicate failure experiences to third parties, reports of the failure experience in PBL were evaluated. From above mentioned surveys, we get the following results. The typical causes of failure in educational institutions are lack of skill in manufacturing and inadequate planning, which conversely are minor causes of failure in the industry. A knowledge database on failure, employed commonly in industry, is not effective in PBL, because projects in educational institutes are usually changed every year. Case studies in failure can be approached from many points of view including causes, processes, effects and safety measures. While teachers should emphasize the notable points in the failure examples in introducing examples of specific topics in machine design, teachers should explain the multiple aspects in the failure examples to educate students about the complexity of actual accidents.

Social media marketing has gained attention from marketers due to the growing number of social media users. Marketers around the globe have a serious concern over how to utilize social media as a successful marketing tool. Many of them show a lack of understanding of the essential feature of social media and effective social media marketing strategies, which brings about a higher chance of social media marketing failures. Analyzing the failure cases of social media marketing is vital because it provides rich insights for marketing experts who have difficulty in developing effective social media marketing strategies. Therefore, this study conducted multiple case studies by selecting five failure cases of social media marketing which we defined as paradigmatic social media marketing failures which happened in the last five years in South Korea. From the case studies, we derived five successful social media marketing strategies. This study has a theoretical implication because it is the first to suggest effective social media marketing strategies based on the analysis on social media marketing failure cases. It also has a practical implication since it proposes specific social media marketing strategies which can help facilitate successful social media marketing.

Minimal change nephrotic syndrome is characterized by proteinuria, hypoproteinemia, edema, and hyperlipidemia. Children with onset of nephrotic syndrome between the age of 1 and 8 year are likely to have steroid response to minimal chage disease, but we experienced one case of minimal change disease which failed to respond to steroid therapy at beginning and subsequently developed acute renal failure. It was seen in a 5 year-old male child that presented with edema and gross hematuria. Peritoneal dialysis was performed for acute renal failure for 11 days. Patient was completely recorvered from acute renal failure and renal biopsy was done at 27th day after onset of disease which revealed typical picture of minimal change disease complicated by acute tubular necrosis. We beleive this case is very unusual and it may be the first case in the literature in terms of pediatric cases.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the effects of herbal medicine on infertility caused by premature ovarian failure. Methods: The patient in this case was 38-year-old female. The patient was diagnosed premature ovarian failure by serum hormone assay. The chief complain is amenorrhea and infertility. She was treated by traditional treatment, such as herbal medicine (Buickjihwang-hwan), acupuncture and moxibustion. Results: After the treatment, the patient recovered the menstrual cycle and became pregnancy and delivery. Conclusions: This case shows that traditional Korean treatment might be effective in infertility caused by premature ovarian failure.
