  • Smart railway system, which has been actively studied in recent years, is entering the intelligent stage beyond the automation stage based on ICT (Information & Communication Technology) such as communication technology and information technology. ICT technology used in smart railways is generally supported by various information protection technologies as it is vulnerable to information infringement. As a means of high-speed/mass transportation, it is essential to devise an information protection plan for ICT technology that forms the basis for smartening the railway system. Therefore, this paper presents the necessity of step-by-step information protection that measures for smart railway communication by examining potential risk factors of smart railway communication base and considering information protection factors that can respond to them.

  • The Korean mobile telecommunication service market is faced with a tremendous competitive period, in which the market is entering into the maturity stage with launching of the 3rd generation service and with introduction of mobile number portability. In general, it is more important to sustain the old customers than to attracting new customers, as the life cycle of an industry is entering the maturity stage in which the growth rate of new customers is decreasing gradually or becoming stagnant. Until now, many researches had tested whether the customer satisfaction and loyalty were the core factors of sustaining customers or not. Also service quality and switching cost were given a remarkable attention for their possibility of exogenous factors, which could exercise effects to customer satisfaction and loyalty. In the same context, mobile telecommunication business has to seek a way to maintain the existing customers instead of promoting new customers. So this study investigates whether the service quality and switching barrier of mobile telecommunication could have effects on the customer satisfaction and loyalty, which are recognized as an efficient means to sustain the current customers. In order to test the hypothesis on the effects of service quality and switching barrier of mobile telecommunication to customer satisfaction and loyalty in Korean telecommunication industry, this study collected the questionnaire response data of students including middle and high school students and undergraduates, who are regarded as the major customers in that mobile telecommunication industry.

  • This study has examined factors of young married women's new entry in labor market after the birth of their first child. For the dynamic analysis, the Cox Regression Hazard Model is applied. The following results are obtained: First, about 33% of married women who did not have a job at the pre-birth enter in labor market at the post-birth. Second, compared to those out of the labor force, women who succeeded in finding their first jobs after the birth of their first child are more likely to be younger, have baby-sitters, have working experiences in the past, and have lower level of household income. Third, age, having baby-sitter and the experience of job transition are vital factors in entering the labor market after the first child birth.

  • The primary aim of this study was to investigate biosecurity practices in pig farms and to determine the major risk factors associated with PCV2 infection for a sampled swine population in Korea. To this end, we analyzed data from a cross-sectional study of 296 farrow-to-finish farms, which was conducted between March and September 2014 to explore the prevalence of swine disease at farm level. Face-to-face interviews by on-site visit of trained veterinarians were conducted with the farm owners or managers using a standardized questionnaires with information about basic demographical data and management practices. Farms were classified as negative or positive through the use of infection profiles that combined data on serological testing including PCR antigen test result, antibody titer and sero-conversion pattern at each age category taking into account vaccination status. Data were analyzed using multivariate ordinal logistic regression. Results from this study indicated that biosecurity level of the farms was considered not good given low compliance of the biosecurity programs and facilities in the farm: off-site removal of dead stocks (7%), off-site location of storage facility for incoming feeds (12.6%), off-site pick-up location for finishers (19.3%), restrictions on feed supplier vehicles for farm entrance (19.6%), restriction of finisher trucks entering the farm (22.4%), and restriction on manure disposal trucks entering the farm (26.4%). In the final model (n = 255), allowance of finisher truck driver to the pig unit had increased risk of infection (OR = 2.4, 95% CI 1.22-4.67) whereas farms with a sign forbidding the entrance had decreased risk of infection (OR = 0.19, 95% CI 0.10-0.58). Further comprehensive research with larger sample size is required to better understand the multifactorial characteristic that some predisposing risk factors that were not available in this study. To the best knowledge of the authors, this was the first study to use empirical data to report risk factors associated with PCV2 infection in the Korean pig farms. Results from the current study could be used to decide optimal biosecurity measures to reduce the impact of PCV2 infection to farmers and policy makers.

More specifically, in terms of managerial, organizational, and employee - level factors, we set leadership, operating system, and taking charge at work as variables influencing innovation capability and tried to understand the effect of innovation capability on innovation performance through empirical studies. In addition, we examined the differences in the influence factors on innovation capability and the effect on innovation performance in the home country and overseas countries. As a result of the empirical analysis, all of the influence factors had a positive effect on the innovation capability and the innovation capability had a positive effect on the innovation performance. The degree of influence was in the order of operating system, leadership and taking charge at work. In China, there is no significant difference in the order of operating system, leadership and taking charge at work. In the case of Korea, operating system and leadership have a positive effect, but the employee's taking charge at work does not affect innovation capability. The results of this study are as follows. First, it is necessary to enhance innovation capability in accordance with local characteristics. In Korea, there are additional activities to induce employee's taking charge at work is required for improved innovation capability and innovation performance.

  • This study is to explore implications for sustainable development of Yangdong Village in Gyeongju through identifying effect of its designation as a World Cultural Heritage on residents' quality of life. The following are the findings achieved by empirical analysis. First, eight valuable factors of placeness were identified through factor analysis, about which residents were especially conscious in terms of "living condition", "cultural environment", "economic QOL", "natural environment conservation", "sense of community", "cooperative facilities", "control over increasing population", "transport environment". Second, the importance -satisfaction scores of identified 8 factors were found very high in importance showing relatively low level of low level of satisfaction. Especially, what caused residents's low QOL was economic status-concerned factor showing the lowest QOL index, and other factors such as cooperative facilities and transport environment negatively impacted on resident's QOL as well. Also, it was revealed that residents had a positive attitude toward entering of their village into UNESCO world heritage sites with hope that it would improve their economic QOL. Based on these results, implications for sustainability of Yangdong Village and research limitations were discussed, and further research direction was supposed.
