The contour of mandibular angle is important for facial esthetics in the oriental population, because the wide and square face is thought to have had an unhappy life. A prominent mandibular angle produces a characteristics quardrangle, coase, and muscular appearance. So, uni- or bi-lateral mandibular angle reduction is usually performed. However, there is little guideline for bi-lateral angle reduction. So, this study was to investigate the pattern of Korean mandibular angle for bi-lateral mandibular angle reduction as guideline. This study was included 66 adult men and women over 19 years old who are having the normal mandibular angle. We measured the posterior border, angle, and inferior border of mandible using cephalometric view. The results of study was as followed : 1. The ratio of posterior mandible was 96.6, 97.3% in male, and 103.0, 106.0% in female. 2. The ratio of mandibular angle(R1-Go/R1-R2) was 120.2% in male, and 117.3% in female. 3. The ratio of inferior mandible(D5, 6, 7, E, F, G/D4) was 97.3, 90.9, 79.5, 65.2, 57.8, 46.9% in male, and 98.5, 91.2, 80.5, 67.6, 59.1, 50.2% in female. The results of this study should be useful to decide accurate amount of reduction.
Objectives By analyzing data of the pediatric patients who had visited the emergency room of the oriental medical hospital, we can understand their characteristics and diseases. The purpose of this study was to introduce the excellence of the Oriental medicine, to develop various treatments, and to revitalize pediatric emergency care at the oriental medical hospital. Methods The study was composed of 334 pediatric patients who had visited the emergency room of the ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ university oriental hospital from January 2011 to December 2013. Results 1. It has showed that between 7 to 12 years old patients (27.8%) were the most common age populations. 2. The number of pediatric patients was increased during February. According to the weekly distribution data, the number of pediatric patients who had visited on Sunday was the highest (28.7%). Also, the number of pediatric patients who had visited the ER between 21 to 24 hours (29.0%) was the highest. 3. The two major reasons for inpatient hospitalization were digestive and nerve-related symptoms. Nerve-related symptoms were the most common in infants while digestive symptoms were the most common in other child development stages. 4. The duration of time interval from the onset of symptoms to the ER visit was most commonly within 6 hours (50.3%). An acupuncture and herbal medication treatment (70.1%) were the most common medical treatments. The majority of the pediatric patients (95.5%) were discharged after their medical treatments. Conclusions A serious acute illness was not the most common reason for the ER visit among the pediatric patients. The most common disease states that have preferred to be treated with the oriental medicine were dyspepsia, crying, facial palsy, and ankle sprain. We have to introduce the excellence of the oriental medicine. We also need to try developing other treatments such as magnetic acupuncture, aromatherapy, and revitalizing pediatric emergency care at the oriental medical hospital.
Object: This study was designed to investigate the clinical and practical characteristics of stroke patients treated with the age-old herbal medicines, Bojungikki-tang and Bojungikki-tang-gamibang. Methods: The 80 patients studied were all diagnosed with stroke by neurological examination, B-CT and B-MRI scan. They were treated with Bojungikki-tang and Bojungikki-tang-gamibang over 5 days and symptoms were observed. There were inpatients and outpatients at the Oriental Medical hospital of Dong-eui University from January in 2000 to June in 2003. All patients were interviewed and medical charts examined. Result and Conclusion: The results were found: 1.Many were in their sixties. Average age was 64.54. 2.Cerebral infarction was diagnosed in 86.25% of all cases. 3.30% of stroke cases occurred in spring. 4.Average blood pressure was 129/84mmHg on the fifth day of treatment with Bojungikki-tang and Bojungikki-tang-gamibang and 135/86mmHg on the first day. 5.The white color were best in facial color about 85.29%. 6.There were many who returned for treatment within 6 to 10 days. 7.Bojungikki-tang and Bojungikki-tang-gamibang were used Rt. hemiplegia more than for Lt. hemiplegia.
Stroke makes several physical deficits. Dysarthria is one of the most difficult problems in conventional medicine because of the weakness of neuromotor control. The purpose of this study is to find the acoustic characteristics of acupuncture therapy effects on post-stroke dysarthria. Seven patients with stroke(infarction or hemorrhage) were selected by CT or MR imaging. The authors applied acupuncture therapy by inserting needles into 8 acupuncture points, ipsilateral ST4, ST6 and contralateral LI4, ST36 on facial palsy side, and CV23, CV24, bilateral "Sheyu" for 4 weeks. Speech sample were composed of five simple vowels /a,e,i,o,u/ and meaningless polysyllabic words CVCVC(C: stops, affricated, fricative sounds, v: /e/). .VOT, total duration of each speech samples and vowel formant (F1&F2) were analyzed on Spectrogram. The results are as follows: 1. VOT of bilabial and velar stops was decreased post treatment. The VOT of bilabial glottalized pre and post treatment were statistically significant (p < 0.05). 2. Total duration of polysyllabic words was decreased post treatment. Decrement of total duration containing the bilabial was statistically significant (p<0.05). 3. First formant of round vowel /o/ pre and post treatment was statistically significant (p<0.05).
In general, the skeletal class III has the characteristics of mandibular overgrowth with a normal maxillary growth or maxillary undergrowth with a normal mandibular growth And clinical and radiographic evaluations of the patient are needed. However, the treatment plan is not dependent on these evaluations alone, because patient's general condition and hope for aesthetics varies. The aim of this report is to consider the treatment of a medically compromised patient with an anterior open bite and skeletal class III, which showed a severe mandibular overgrowth. In 2003, a 17-year-old boy with epilepsy, mental retardation presented at our clinic complaining of concave profile. A clinical examination showed severe mandibular prognathism with an anterior open bite. The radiographic examination revealed a short cranial base, a moderate maxillary overgrowth, severe mandibular overgrowth and skeletal open bite tendency. In 2004, he was verified to have no potential of growth by hand-and-wrist radiographs and an endocrine examination. He completed the preoperative orthodontic treatment and orthognathic surgery (sagittal split ramus osteotomy, genioplasty). He was evaluated on the first visit, the preoperative period and the postoperative period with a clinical and radiographic examination. At the first visit, the patient showed moderate overgrowth of the maxilla, severe overgrowth of the mandible, and a subsequential skeletal open bite. After the preoperative orthodontic treatment (preoperative period), the patient showed the same skeletal problem as before and a decompensated dentition for orthognathic surgery. After orthognathic surgery, his profile had improved, but he had still a skeletal openbite tendency because the maxillary orthognathic surgery was not performed. Severe mandibular prognathism with a maxillary overgrowth and anterior open bite should be treated by bimaxillary orthognathic surgery. However, one-jaw orthognathic surgery on the remaining the skeletal open bite tendency was performed for his medical problem and facial esthetics. This subsequential open bite should be resolved with a postoperative orthodontic treatment.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate distribution of the admitted patients with disease of oral cavity, salivary glands and jaws, current clinical treatment condition and clinical dental practice. Methods: The subject were 4,564 patients with disease of oral cavity, salivary glands and jaws of the Korean National Hospital Discharge Injury Survey 2004-2008 data. This study was carried out using the administrative database including patients' characteristics and comorbidity. The statistical analysis for ratio, gender, age, region, primary diagnosis, comorbidity, operation, hospital location and bed size of inpatients in Korean National Hospital Discharge Injury Survey was conducted by frequency analysis. Results: Among the total discharge injury patients in 2004-2008, the trend showed decrease of ratio of patients with disease of oral cavity, salivary glands and jaws. The portion of male was higher than female, and 20~29 age group was the highest portion compared with other age groups. Seoul-Gyunggi region was the highest among the other residences. patients with Dentofacial anomalies[including malocclusion] as primary diagnosis, digestive system as comorbidity and operations on facial bones and joins showed the highest portion respectively. Seoul-Gyunggi region was the highest portion compared with other residences. 500~999 bed size showed the highest portion. Conclusion: In this study showed that distribution of patients with disease of oral cavity, salivary glands and jaws, current dental clinical treatment condition using the Korean National Hospital data.
As image contents in broadcasting have been created in HDTVs and monitors have been commercialized, facial expression of objects in broadcasting lighting has become a very significant task. Figure modeling of objects in HDTVs requires smoother and cleaner video images owing to the expansion of precision of image expression by light. Lighting methods that enlighten characters in the digital generation have come to require a new change. Character modeling methods used on expression features of underlight are receiving attention for aesthetic expression of figures in HD images. Accordingly, the influence of underlight light source intensity, distance, and size on character modeling characteristics was experimentally measured and comparatively analyzed. The experiment results show that good results can be obtained only when the intensity is 17%∼25.5% in contrast to total brightness, distance is beyond 40cm, and the size is at least 20cm, to exhibit the optimum effect of underlight. This data will become material with high usage to gain smoother and cleaner images of characters in future high-quality images.
Objectives: Major salivary gland tumor mainly develops in the parotid gland and pleomorphic adenoma is a large percentage. The aim of this study is to get clinicopathologic characteristics of overall major salivary gland tumors and suggestions regarding surgical management through collective review of 315 cases. Materials and Methods: This is a clinicopathologic review of 315 cases of major salivary gland tumor who were treated surgically at Department of Surgery, Head and Neck Clinic, Pusan Paik Hospital, Inje University during the period of 18 years from 1980 to 1997. Analysis was performed regarding the incidence, classification, surgery and its complications, and survival rate of salivary gland cancer. Results : 1) Parotid gland was the most prevalent site of salivary gland tumor(78%) and submandibular gland(21%) was next in order. Benign tumors were 257cases(81%) and malignant tumors were 58 cases(19%). 2) Male to female sex ratio was 1:1.2, the most prevalent age group was 3rd decade and the second group was 4th decade. 3) Histopathologically, the most common benign salivary gland tumor was pleomorphic adenoma. Warthin's tumor was next common. Among the malignant tumors, mucoepidermoid carcinoma was most common, and the next were adenoid cystic carcinoma and acinic cell carcinoma. 4) In pleomorphic adenoma, superficial parotidectomy was performed in 129 cases, and extracapsular tumorectomy was performed in 3 cases. In non-pleomorphic benign tumor, tumorectomy was performed in 21 cases. In 40 cases of deep lobe tumor, total parotidectomy was performed in only 2 cases and deep parotidectomy was performed in 38 cases. 5) Surgical complications were facial nerve injury 19 cases, Frey syndrome 13 cases, and salivary fistula 3 cases. 6) Overall 5-year survival rate of salivary gland cancer was 63%. Conclusion: Postoperative recurrence rate is low in benign tumor, but high in cancer of salivary gland tumor. Surgical procedure should not be aggressive in benign tumor, especially in parotid tumor, but should be aggressive in malignant salivary gland tumors.

Objective: This study examined cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT)-derived multiplanar-reconstructed (MPR) cross-sections to clarify the salient characteristics of patients with skeletal class III malocclusion with midface deficiency (MD). Methods: The horizontal and sagittal plane intersection points were identified for middle-third facial analysis in 40 patients in the MD or normal (N) groups. MPR images acquired parallel to each horizontal plane were used for length and angular measurements. Results: A comparison of the MD and N groups revealed significant differences in the zygoma prominence among female patients. The convex zygomatic area in the N group was larger than that in the MD group, and the inferior part of the midface in the N group was smaller than that in the MD group for both male and female patients. A significant difference was observed in the concave middle maxillary area among male patients. Conclusions: This study was conducted to demonstrate the difference between MD and normal face through MPR images derived from CBCT. Male patients in the MD group had a more flattened face than did those in the N group. Female patients in the MD group showed a concave-shaped lower section of the zygoma, which tended to have more severe MD. These findings indicate that orthognathic surgery to improve skeletal discrepancy requires different approaches in male and female patients.
This Study is a thesis presenting handicrafty and decorative textile design as well as sensual fashion design through the works of Gustav Klimt. The result is as below; The formative qualities in the works of Klimt could be featured as decorativeness, sensuality and symbolism. First, the decorative inclination is prominent in the portrait and the effect is maximized with the golden mosaic shape expressed on the dress and the background influenced by the Byzantine. Second, the sensuality could be recognized directly from the women's pose or facial expression in the works of Klimt, otherwise appeared on the refined expression showed on the portraits of noble lady Third, to surpass the reality, Klimt preferred the symbolic expression, which can be shown on the patterns in the works addressing the themes such as the legends and myths, or figures of men and women expressed with the image of an abstract features of membrum. The development of the textile design is as fellowed. First, it analyzes and reconstitutes the formativeness and the element of design in the works of Klimt by the flow of the form factor. Second. it makes a pattern of a single nature through perception, analysis, description and drawing and expresses with realization of the characteristics of Klimt. Focusing on the handicrafts and decorativeness out of the latest trends and making the most use of the sensuality, the designed textiles were completed by the handicrafty techniques, used in the fashion design and completed as the design of sensual images. The textile development aims at minimizing the limit of design that can be caused by the absence of silhouette and detail, expanding the range of its creativity of fashion designs and creating fashion design high value-added.
