A lot of parts in FGD (Flue Gas Desulphurization) systems of fossil-fuel power plants show the environments in which are highly changeable and extremely acidic corrosive medium according to time and locations, e.g. in duct works, coolers and re-heaters etc.. These conditions are formed when system materials are immersed in fluid that flows on them or when exhausted gas is condensed into thin layered medium to contact materials of the system walls and roofs. The environments make troublesome corrosion and air pollution problems that are occurred from the leakage of the condensed solution. The frequent shut-down and repairing works of FGD systems also demand costs and low efficiencies of those facilities. In general, high corrosion resistant materials have been used to solve this problem. However, even the super alloys and Teflon linings sometimes have not been good enough to preventing corrosion. Further more, they are expensive and not easily repairable in short periods of operation stops. In this work, new technology that is effective, economical and easily repairable has proposed to solve the corrosion problems in FGD facilities. This technology contains cathodic protection, coatings and remote monitoring-controlling systems.

Acute effects of locally applied of static magnetic field (SMF) and extremely low frequency electromagnetic field(ELF-EMF) to the cutaneous tissue within a rabbit ear chamber (REC)were evaluated under conscious conditions. Rabbits with the REC were subjected to intravital microscopical investigation by use of microphotoelectric plethysmography(MPPG). There was no dose-response relationship between the extent of vasomotion changes and frequencies(0,20,50, 100Hz)or power levels (1, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 200 mT). Under low vascular tone the both fields induce vasodilatation. The effects of SMF (1 mT) on the cutaneous microcirculatory system induced the vasodilatation with enhanced vasomotion under nor-adrenaline-induced high vascular tone as well as the vasoconstriction with reduced vasomotion under acetylcholine-induced low vascular tone. This suggests that the SMF can modulate vascular tone due to the modification of vasomotion biphasically in the cutaneous tissue.
Due to the need for improved fuel consumption and the trend towards increasing the electrical content in automobiles, integrated starter generator (ISG) systems are being considered by the automotive industry. In this paper, in order to change the conventional generator of a vehicle, a belt driven integrated starter generator is considered. The overall ISG system, the design considerations for the claw pole type AC electric machine and a low voltage very high current power stage implementation are discussed. Test data on the low voltage claw pole type machine is presented, and a large current voltage source DC/AC inverter suitable for low voltage integrated starter generator operation is also presented. A metal based PCB (Printed Circuit Board) power unit to attach the 4-parallel MOS-FETs is used to achieve extremely high current capability. Furthermore, issues related to the torque assistance during vehicle acceleration and the generation/regeneration characteristics are discussed. A prototype with the capability of up to 1000 A and 27 V is designed and built to validate the kilo-amp inverter.
We have already developed EMI reducing techniques using lossless compression by vertically differential EMI suppression method (VDE[1]). It applies lossless modulo reduction and data bit mapping optimization for low voltage differential signaling (LVDS) transmission lines, that reduces the probability of transient bit and EMI by 12 dB [6][7]. We also improved and optimized the VDE for low power LCD interface. With this modified VDE algorithm[8], the developed FPGA was measured the reduction of the power consumption of LCD circuit by more than 15 % compared to the conventional methods in the case of 14-in LCD with SXGA resolution. The VDE algorithm is based on the total image systematic approach. In the VDE method, the present image signals are subtracted for the 1H delayed image signals and transferred to a column driver through a PCB. As the vertical correlations for image signals are very high, we expected that most of the vertically subtracted image signals remain 0 level and transient cycles become very long. As a result, the power consumption and EMI are extremely reduced for the transferred image signals on a PCB. In this paper, we discussed our proposed method by emphasizing the fact that systematic approach are important based on not only display point of view but also total system point of view.
A ultra low frequency (ULF) wave, Pi2, has been reported to occur during periods of extremely quiet magnetospheric and solar wind conditions. And no statistical study on the Pi2 has been performed during extremely quiet conditions, using satellite observations to the author's knowledge. Also Pi2 pulsations in the space fluxgate magnetometers near perigee failed to attract scientist's attention previously. In this paper, Pi2 pulsations detected by the Van Allen probe satellites (VAP-A & VAP-B) were investigated statistically. During the period from October 2012 to December 2014, ninety six Pi2 events were identified using VAP when Kp = 0 while using Kakioka (KAK, L = 1.23) as a reference ground station. Seventy five events had high coherence between VAP-Bz and H components at KAK station. As a result, it was found that 77 % of the events had power spectra between 5 and 12 mHz, which differs from the regular Pi2 band range of from 6.7 to 25 mHz. In addition, it was shown that it is possible to observe Pi2 pulsations from space fluxgate magnetometers near perigee. Twenty two clean Pi2 pulsations were found where L < 4 and four examples of Pi2 oscillations at different L shells are presented in this paper.

A new active LED driver with high power factor (PF) and low total harmonic distortion (THD) compatible with a rapid-start ballast is proposed. An LC input filter is attached to the ballast to increase PF and reduce THD. A boost converter is then installed to regulate the LED current, where an unstable operating region has been newly identified. The unstable region is successfully stabilized by feedback control with two zeroes. The extremely high overall system of the 10th order is completely analyzed by the newly introduced phasor transformed circuits in static and dynamic analyses. Although a small DC capacitor is utilized, the flicker percentage of the LED is drastically mitigated to 1% by the fast controller. The proposed LED driver that employs a simple controller with a start-up circuit is verified by extensive experiments whose results are in good agreement with the design.

In this paper, 3-D magnetostatic finite element simulation of a rotux type Low-Tc superconducing (LTS) superconducting power supply, finite element method, cryogenic system, superconducting foil by generated magnetic flux from the rotating pole. The magnetic flux density on the superconducting foil caused by two exciters is therefore sufficiently greater than its critical magnetic flux density and it is an essential point in LTS power supply design. To establish the sufficient flux path of this machine, ferromagnetic materials is used in this power supply. When ferromagnetic materials is used at extremely low temperature, its characteristic of magnetization differs to that at room temperature. For this reason, special consideration is needed in the magnetic analysis of cryogenic systems. When the excitation current is 10A, the normal spot appears on superconducting foil. The results of this analysis are calculated and compared with the experimental results. The linkage flux due to the excitation current of 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50A are respectively $1.30{\times}10-4$, $2.67{\times}10-4$, $5.08{\times}10-4$ and $6.15{\times}10-4Wb$.

The results of performance assessment analyses have shown that the long-lived radionuclides such as I-129 control the potential individual dose impact to the public. I-129 is difficult-to-measure(DTM) in low-level waste because it is non-gamma emitting radionuclides and exists at extremely low concentrations in radioactive waste generated by nuclear reactors. In this study, computer modeling technique to predict release rate of I-129 is developed to provide another tools far performance assessment of land disposal facilities and characteristics of radwaste. Model suggested in this study will give conservative values of I-129 release rate far determination of radwaste characteristics. More detailed approach is implemented to account for release conditions of fuel source-nuclides. 1-131 concentration measured from reactor coolant and released fraction from tramp fuel have dominant roles in calculating release rate of I-129 with fuel defect conditions.

Since Wertheimer and Leeper reported possible adverse health effects of magnetic field in 1979, worldwide researches on this issue have been conducted. More recently, the U.S. Congress instructed the NIEHS (National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences), NIH (National Institute of Health) and DOE (Department of Energy) to direct and manage EMF RAPID (Electric and Magnetic Fields Research and Public Information Dissemination) program aimed at providing scientific evidence to clarify the potential for health risks from exposure to extremely low frequency electric and magnetic fields(ELF-EMF). Although they concluded that the scientific evidence suggesting adverse health risks of ELF-EMF is weak, the exposure to ELF-EMF cannot be recognized as entirely safe. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to describe magnetic field 3-D calculation and to evluate eddy current of human body compare to international guide line recognized one of the basic problems. In open boundary problem, Magnetic field using FEM is not advantageous in the point of the division of area and the proposition of the fictitious boundary. Therefore, we induced the analytic equation of magnetic field calculations so but the finite line segment based on Biot-Savarts law Also, Eddy currents induced due to ELF-EMF magnetic field are computed. To calculate induced currents, impedance method is used in this paper, An example model of human head with resolution of 1.27cm is used. In this paper, We evaluate the magnetic field and eddy current of human head around 765 kV transmission lines compare to international guide line.

A cross-flow wind turbine has a high torque coefficient at a low tip speed ratio. Therefore, it is a good candidate for use as a self-starting turbine. Furthermore, it has low noise and excellent stability; therefore, it has attracted attention from the viewpoint of applications as a small wind turbine for an urban district. However, its maximum power coefficient is extremely low (10 %) as compared to that of other small wind turbines. In order to improve the performance and flow condition of the cross-flow rotor, the symmetrical casing with a nozzle and a diffuser are proposed and the experimental research with the symmetrical casing is conducted. The maximum power coefficient is obtained as $C_{pmax}=0.17$ in the case with the casing and $C_{pmax}=0.098$ in the case without the casing. In the present study, the power characteristics of the cross-flow rotor and those of the symmetrical casing with the nozzle and diffuser are investigated. Then, the performance and internal flow patterns of the cross-flow wind turbine with the symmetrical casings are clarified. After that, the effect of the side boards set on the symmetrical casing is discussed on the basis of the analysis results.
