Three-Dimensional Modeling of the Solar Active Region

  • In this paper, we introduce the 3D modeling of the coronal magnetic field in the solar active region by extrapolating from the 2D observational data numerically. First, we introduce a nonlinear force-free field (NLFFF) extrapolation code based on the MHD-like relaxation method implementing the cleaning a numerical error for Div B proposed by Dedner et al. 2002 and the multi-grid method. We are able to reconstruct the ideal force-free field, which was introduced by Low & Lou (1990), in high accuracy and achieve the faster speed in the high-resolution calculation (512^3 grids). Next we applied our NLFFF extrapolation to the solar active region NOAA 10930. First of all, we compare the 3D NLFFF with the flare ribbons of Ca II images observed by the Solar Optical Telescope (SOT) aboard on the Hinode. As a result, it was found that the location of the two foot-points of the magnetic field lines well correspond to the flare ribbon. The result indicates that the NLFFF well capture the 3D structure of magnetic field in the flaring region. We further report the stability of the magnetic field by estimating the twist value of the field line and finally suggest the flare onset mechanism.

  • 점화제 주입 특성을 모사할 수 있는 2차원 이상유동의 강내탄도 해석코드 개발하였다. 장약인 추진제의 연소 해석을 위해 Eulerian-Lagrangian 접근법과 LSHUS 기법을 적용하였다. 탄자의 이동에 따른 이동경계면의 해석을 위해 Ghost Cell Extrapolation method를 사용하였다. 개발된 2차원 강내탄도 해석코드는 무차원 강내탄도 해석 코드인 IBHVG2와 기존에 개발된 1차원 강내탄도 해석코드와 비교 검증하였다. 항력식에 따른 이상유동의 비교에서 항력식이 탄자탈출속도의 수치적 해석에 영향을 주는 것을 확인하였다.

  • The speed-power prediction is one of the most important functions of towing-tank facilities. Generally, ITTC-1978 extrapolation method is employed for the full-scale powering prediction. During the procedure, the friction resistance line plays a major role to predict both model- and full-scale resistance. In this paper, the form factors determined by ITTC-1957 line for several kinds of vessels are compared with the values obtained using the lines proposed by Grigson(1993) and Katsui et al.(2005). Resistance and self-propulsion coefficients predicted by three different friction resistance lines are minutely analyzed. Finally, brake powers and revolutions estimated by flat plate friction resistance lines of Grigson and Katsui et al. are compared with the results obtained from ITTC-1957 line.

  • An automotive bushing is a device used in automotive suspension systems to reduce the load transmitted from the wheel to the frame of the vehicle. A bushing is a hollow cylinder, which is bonded to a solid steel shaft at its inner surface and a steel sleeve at its outer surface. The relation between the force applied to the shaft and the relative deformation of a bushing is nonlinear and exhibits features of viscoelasticity. In this paper, an automotive bushing is regarded as nonlinear viscoelastic incompressible material. Instron 8801 equipment was used for experimental res earch and ramp-to-constant displacement control test was used for data acquisition. Displacement dependent force relaxation function was obtained from the force extrapolation method and expressed as the explicit combination of time and displacement. Pipkin-Rogers model, which is the direct relation of force and displacement, was obtained and comparison studies between the experimental results and the Pipkin-Rogers results were carried out.

  • The object level image compression is a useful technology for reducing the necessary data and manipulating individual objects. In this paper, we propose a new image object compression algorithm that uses the quadratic programming (QP) method to reduce the compressed data. The results indicate the superiority of the proposed QP based algorithm over the low pass extrapolation (LPE) method of MPEG-4.

  • Tracking a target of versatile maneuver recently demands a stable adaptation of tracker, and the multiple model techniques are being developed because of its ability to produce useful information of target maneuver. This paper presents the way to apply the multiple model method in a moving-target and moving-platform scenario, and the estimation and prediction results better than those of single Kalman filter.

3차원 솔리드 요소를 이용한 용접부 핫스팟 응력 계산에 대한 연구 (Study on Hot Spot Stress Calculation for Welded Joints using 3D Solid Finite Elements)

  • Because of the high stress concentration near the toe of a welded joint, the calculation of local stress using the finite element method which is relevant to the fatigue strength of the weld toe crack, is a challenging task. This is mainly caused by the sensitivity of finite element analysis, which usually occurs near the area of a dramatically changing stress field. This paper presents a novel numerical method through which a less mesh-sensitive local stress calculation can be achieved based on the 3D solid finite element, strictly sticking to the original definition of hot spot stress. In order to achieve the goal, a traction stress, defined at 0.5t and 1.5t away from the weld toe, was calculated using either a force-equivalent or work-equivalent approach, both of which are based on the internal nodal forces on the imaginary cut planes. In the force-equivalent approach, the traction stress on the imaginary cut plane was calculated using the simple force and moment equilibrium, whereas the equivalence of the work done by both the nodal forces and linearized traction stress was employed in the work-equivalent approach. In order to confirm the validity of the proposed method, five typical welded joints widely used in ships and offshore structures were analyzed using five different solid element types and four different mesh sizes. Finally, the performance of the proposed method was compared with that of the traditionally used surface stress extrapolation method. It turned out that the sensitivity of the hot spot stress for the analyzed typical welded joints obtained from the proposed method outperformed the traditional extrapolation method by far.

지연 제약 하에서 면적의 최적화를 위한 트랜지스터 사이징과 버퍼 삽입 알고리즘 (Transistor Sizing and Buffer Insertion Algorithms for Optimum Area under Delay Constraint)

  • 저 전력회로의 설계를 위해서, 전체 회로의 면적을 줄임으로써 용량성 부하(capacitance)값을 줄이는 방법으로 적절한 트랜지스터를 선택하여 사이징하는 방법을 이용할 수 있는데, 이 때 트랜지스터 사이징을 수행하면서 적당한 위치에 버퍼를 삽입하여주면 더 좋은 결과를 가져올 수 있다. 본 논문은 TILOS 알고리즘을 이용하여 트랜지스터 사이징(sizing)을 수행하는 동시에 버퍼의 삽입을 수행하는 알고리즘 두 가지를 소개하고 이 두 방법을 비교한다. 그 첫 번째 방법은 Template Window를 이용하여 직접 시뮬레이션하는 방법이고 다른 하나는 보외법(Extrapolation)을 이용하는 방법이다. 이와 같이 버퍼를 삽입하면서 트랜지스터 사이징을 수행한 결과, 버퍼를 삽입하지 않을 때 보다 10-20%의 면적감소를 얻었을 수 있었으며 보외법을 이용한 방법 보다 Template Window를 이용했을 때 더 좋은 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.

A Dynamic Hand Gesture Recognition System Incorporating Orientation-based Linear Extrapolation Predictor and Velocity-assisted Longest Common Subsequence Algorithm

  • The present paper proposes a novel dynamic system for hand gesture recognition. The approach involved is comprised of three main steps: detection, tracking and recognition. First, the gesture contour captured by a 2D-camera is detected by combining the three-frame difference method and skin-color elliptic boundary model. Then, the trajectory of the hand gesture is extracted via a gesture-tracking algorithm based on an occlusion-direction oriented linear extrapolation predictor, where the gesture coordinate in next frame is predicted by the judgment of current occlusion direction. Finally, to overcome the interference of insignificant trajectory segments, the longest common subsequence (LCS) is employed with the aid of velocity information. Besides, to tackle the subgesture problem, i.e., some gestures may also be a part of others, the most probable gesture category is identified through comparison of the relative LCS length of each gesture, i.e., the proportion between the LCS length and the total length of each template, rather than the length of LCS for each gesture. The gesture dataset for system performance test contains digits ranged from 0 to 9, and experimental results demonstrate the robustness and effectiveness of the proposed approach.

  • 고속 퓨리에 변환(Fast Fourier Transform: FFT)은 입력신호가 주기적이라는 가정하에 빠른 계산량과 좋은 성능으로 영상복원에 다방면으로 적용되고 있다. 하지만 실제취득영상은 주기가 무한한 영역의 일부분을 한 주기로 가정하고, 또한 외부영역에 대한 정보손실로 인하여 경계왜곡이 발생한다. 본 논문은 현재까지 진행되어온 경계왜곡을 줄이기 위한 기술들에 대해 고찰정리 하였다. 뿐만 아니라 FFT의 계산량 감소를 위해 블록기반의 영상처리와 이때 발생하는 경계왜곡 감소를 위한 알고리듬을 제안한다. 외부영역의 정보를 알고 있는 경우의 보다 좋은 결과를 위하여 안쪽 블록과 바깥블록의 처리를 달리 적용하였다. 이러한 과정을 통해 경계왜곡을 줄이면서 고속으로 영상복원을 가능하게 한다.
