  • This study examined the expression characteristics in pop art works of Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. The study here aimed at possibility to find a design development in building up the unique art world of creativity based on popularity, artistry, and originality without confinement to the trend only. For the research method, review of literature and analysis about Castelbajac's works reflecting the pop art feature in the collections from 2000S/S to 2012F/W were performed. The results of research are as follows. The external expression form of Castelbajac's works based on pop art was grouped roughly into use of mass culture image, appropriation of pop art expression technique, and parody of art works. First, his work appeared as application of the mass culture image such as symbolic thing in the modern consumer society, object in an ordinary life, character of well-known animation, national flag and famous star. Second, such appropriated pop art techniques showed as pop color in strong primary color and silk screen, photomontage, collage, assemblage, graffiti, and lettering. Third, a variety of images featured earlier in art works were shown in parody. These works are valuable in that they are expressed aesthetically through regeneration of popular culture's various images in view of fashion, they are described in the non-traditional value with frolic resistance and deviation out of existing fashion norm, and they are given the dynamic creativity integrated with art and fashion.

  • Highly efficient blue and white phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes (PHOLEDs) with an exciton-confining structure were investigated in this study. Effective charge confinement was achieved by stacking two emitting layers with different charge-transporting properties, and blue PHOLEDs with a maximum luminance efficiency of 47.9 lm/W were developed by using iridium(III) bis(4,6-(difluorophenyl) pyridinato-N,C2')picolinate (FIrpic) as an electrophosphorescent dopant. Moreover, when the optimized green and red emitting layers were sandwiched between the two stacked blue emitting layers, white PHOLEDs (WOLEDs) with peak external and luminance efficiencies of 19.0% coupling technique.and 54.0 lm/W, respectively, were obtained without the use of any out-coupling technique.

  • Experiments on the hydrogen gas breakdown for plasma initiation in the KAERIT tokamak are described. The influence of the applied loop voltage, toroidal magnetic field, gas filling pressure, error magnetic field, and preionization is studied. It is concluded that the magnitude of the error field is the most important factor for successful discharge initiation. The gas breakdown voltage becomes minumum when the external compensating field most effectively corrects the net error field. Even though preionization effect is not prominent, it is exhibited more easily in the case of worse confinement. Discharge initiation conditions experimentally determined are compared with those calcuated from a theoretical model. Some other unknown physical processes maintain the operation range somewhat narrower than predicted by the present theoretical model. However, this model is adequate for the breakdown phase of tokamaks.

  • An electrically controllable fiber Bragg grating inscribed in a hydrogen-loaded standard single-mode fiber with liquid-crystal cladding is presented. Control of the optic axis of liquid crystals by means of external electric fields results in the change of reflectivity and Bragg wavelength of the grating. The increase of surrounding refractive index of a fiber makes effective refractive index of a propagation mode higher, which results in high field confinement and longer Bragg wavelength. The reduction of the fiber diameter by chemical etching process improves the long-range ordering of liquid-crystal molecules and reduces controlling voltage. The tunable ranges of reflectivity and Bragg wavelength of the liquid crystal-cladding fiber Bragg grating were $\~4.6dB\;and\;\~0.3nm$, respectively.

  • Interaction between the external thin-walled steel tube and the internal concrete core significantly increases the bending resistance of composite beams and beam-columns in comparison with the steel or concrete members. There is presented a developed method for design of hollow and solid concrete-filled steel tubular beams based on test data, which gives better agreement with test results than EC4 because its limitation to take an increase in strength of concrete caused by confinement contradicts the recommendation of 6.7.2(4) that full composite action up to failure may be assumed between steel and concrete components of the member. Good agreement between the results of carried out experimental, numerical and theoretical investigations allows recommending the proposed method to use in design practice.

  • Researches and studies which have been conducted so far on external confinement of long span concrete columns have mainly concentrated on concentric loading. But, long span bridge concrete columns over the sea are mainly subjected to concentrated axial load, and at the same time lange amount of moment by eccentric load. This paper experimentally investigates the performance of externally confined high-strength concrete columns subjected to loading mechanism and evaluates the effectiveness of two confinement materials carbon fibre and high performance glass fibre. Twelve short columns with the same dimensions were cast and tested Six columns were reinforced with hoop bars, the remaining six columns were reinforced with spiral bars and wrapped with three layers of carbon failure and high performance glass FRP sheets. Test variables considered were the shape of internal reinforcement and strengthening materials according to loading location. The experimental results showed that eccentric load could obviously lower down the maximum failure load of FRP-confined concrete columns, compared with the columns under concentric load. And compared with the carbon FRP-confined reinforced concrete columns, high performance glass FRP-confined columns displayed a higher load capacity and ductility, when tested both concentrically and eccentrically.

  • A laser diode(LD) structure consisting of a single 150$\AA$ $Al_{0.07}$Ga$_{0.93}$As quantum well active region operating at ${\lambda}$=809nm, cladded with an AlGaAs graded-index separate confinement heterostructure, has bes been grown by MOCVD. Temperature coefficient of wavelength is approximately 0.2nm $^{\circ}C$ for the diode. The active aperture consists of five emitters separated from each other by means of SiO$_{2}$ deposition and stripe formation, which creates insulating regions that channel the current to 100-$\mu$m-wide stripes placed on 450-$\mu$m centers. From a typical uncoated LD, the output power of 0.8W has been obtained at a 1$\mu$s, 1kHz pulsed current level of 2.0$\AA$, which results in about 64% external quantum efficiency. The threshold current density is 736A/cm$^{2}$ for the case of 500$\mu$m cavity length LD's. The measure of an internal quantum efficiency was 75.8% and the internal loss 4.83$cm^{-1}$ . Finally, 3.1W output power has been obtained at a 1$\mu$s, 1kHz pulsed current level of 9A from the 500$\mu$m-aperture LD array with 460-$\mu$m- cavity length.

  • The ITER fuel cycle is designed for DT operation in equimolar ratio. It involves not only a group of fuelling system and torus cryo-pumping system of the exhaust gases through the divertor from the torus in tokamak plant, but also from the exhaust gas processing of the fusion effluent gas mixture connected to the hydrogen isotope separation in cryogenic distillation to the final safe storage & delivery of the hydrogen isotopes in tritium plant. Tritium plant system supplies deuterium and tritium from external sources and treats all tritiated fluids in ITER operation. Every operation and affairs is focused on the tritium inventory accountancy and the confinement. This paper describes the major fuel cycle processes and interfaces in the tritium plant in aspects of upcoming technologies for future hydrogen and/or hydrogen isotope utilization.

  • In 1991, Prof. Toshio Masuda of Kyoto University for the first time synthesized a representative of diphenylacetylene polymer derivatives, poly[1-phenyl-2-(p-trimethylsilyl)phenylacetylene] [PTMSDPA]. This polymer is highly soluble nevertheless a ultra-high molecular weight (Mw) of > $1.0{\times}10^6$ which showed excellent chemical, physical, mechanical properties [1]. As one of the most interesting features of PTMSDPA, Prof. Katsumi Yoshino of Osaka Univ. reported that this polymer emits an intense fluorescence (FL) in a visible region because of the effective exciton confinement within the resonant structure between the polyene pi-conjugated chain and side phenyl full-aromatic bulky groups [2]. Very recently, Prof. Ben-Zhong Tang of Hong-Kong Institute of Science and Technology clarified the idea that the FL emission of disubstituted acetylene polymer derivatives originates from intramolecular excimer due to the face-to-face stacking of the side phenyl groups [3]. Thus, to know what influence to intramolecular excimer emission in the film as well as to further understand how the intramolecular excimer forms in the film became more crucial in order to further precisely design the optimized molecular structure for highly emissive, substituted acetylene polymers in the solid state. In recent studies, we have focused our interests on the origin of the FL emission in order to expand our knowledge to developments of novel sensor applications. It was found that the intramolecular phenyl-pheyl stack structure of PTMSDPA in film was variable in response to various external chemical stimuli. Using PTMSDPA and its derivatives, we have developed various potential applications such as latent fingerprint identification, viscosity sensor, chemical-responsive actuator, gum-like soft conjugated polymer, and bioimaging. The details will be presented in the 49th KVS Symposium held in Pyong Chang city.

  • The performance of concrete structure decreases with change in time and the external environment. In order to reinforce the structure, the research about new material development and application of newly developed materials are widely conducted. In the case of composite FRP, it received good attention in the academia due to its high intensity-weight ratio, excellent corrosion resistency as well as good workability. When applying at the construction field, however, the utilization of FRP did not increase as much due to lack of reliability and design standard. Current study investigated the material characteristics during the temperature change at high temperature and the structural behavior from restraint effect for GFRP reinforcing materials. Two experimental variables were set in this study: GFRP reinforcements due to tensile properties of temperature and restraint compression effects. Three concrete specimen were selected for each set temperatures. For this reason, as a variable to experiment with the effects confined compression concrete members value and tensile properties with temperature reinforcement GFRP, experiment produced three pieces each for each set temperature, the concrete specimen, which is confined in the GFRP was selected each I did. For the temperature change during the experiment, the concrete specimen were mounted in order to expose to experimental high temperature for certain period of time. For compression performance evaluation, reinforcement effect from horizontal constraint of the fiber were measured using an Universal Material Testing Machine (UTM). Finally, this study revealed that the binding characteristics of GFRP materials from temperature change decreased. Also, this study showed that the maximum compression intensity decreased as the temperature increased up to $150^{\circ}C$ in the constraints ability of the GFRP reinforcements during the horizontal constraint of concrete.
