  • This paper experimentally studies the performance of negotiation considering individual and party, like a country, share of benefit over the best ones. It experiments two-stage bargaining games, internal and external negotiations. From the experimental results, this paper shows strong tendency to select fair allocation in the internal negotiations, but the tendency would be weaker with attractive outside option. In addition, the outside option may claim difference in individual benefit. From the regressions on individual performance in the negotiations, being a proposing party would matter to enhance the performance. However, relative individual performance within party fairness matters. Still attractive no-agreement options happen to break the tendency. As policy implication for trade negotiation, this paper warns that possible loss in individual benefit from not active participation to the external negotiations, no active role of proposer in case that players stick to internal allocations, and deviation of advantageous sector due to attractive outside options.

  • Based on a survey on 1620 students in primary school and secondary school., by adopting Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ), we got the following findings : 1. There is close relationship between emotionality characteristics of temperament and mathematics academic achievement of the subjects at Grade 5 (Primary 5), Grade 8 (Junior Secondary 2), and Grade 10 (Senior Secondary 2). Also there is close relationship between internal-external directivity characteristics of temperament and mathematics academic achievement at Grade 5 and Grade 8. While there is not close relationship between internal-external directivity characteristics of temperament and mathematics academic achievement at Grade 10; 2. There is close relationship between temperament types and mathematics academic achievement of the subjects from the three grades. Superior temperament, which benefit learning mathematics, are sanguine, sanguine-phlegmatic and phlegmatic; While inferior temperament types, which don't benefit learning mathematics, are choleric, melancholic and choleric-melancholic. With the rising of grade, temperament types of benefiting learning mathematics converts from external directivity emotion balance to balance of internal-external directivity emotion stability. While temperament of no benefiting learning mathematics converts from internal directivity emotion balance to balance of internal-external directivity emotion instability; 3. In mathematics education, students' temperament difference, which affects learning mathematics, should be recognized. Mathematics teachers should find out the best teaching ways, forms and methods which are suitable for student's temperament type, so that the students with different temperament types can gain better mathematics academic achievement.

  • Purpose - This paper explains why free trade agreements (FTAs) are more popular than customs unions (CUs) in respect of tariff coordination. Design/methodology - This paper employs an equilibrium theory of trade agreements with tariff coordination. I set up three-country partial equilibrium model with competing exporters. Domestic and exporting firms decide their optimal production under given tariffs and each country levies its tariff under the trade agreements. I found stability of implicit tariff coordination and preference of each country between an FTA and a CU. Findings - I demonstrate that two FTA members can keep their external tariffs higher than separately decided external tariffs by keeping the status-quo. This implicit tariff coordination can benefit each member through trade diversion. In a CU, each member country must have a common optimal external tariff and it must incur costs because each country may seek different external tariffs for their own national welfare. The benefit of implicit coordination in an FTA and the cost of explicit coordination in a CU account for the popularity of the FTA. Originality/value - This paper uses the idea of implicit tariff coordination in trade agreements. In a CU, tariff coordination is explicit and mandatory. All member countries must have a single common external tariff for each good. On the other hand, in an FTA, each country establishes its external tariff with the goal of maximizing its own welfare. However, each country can also coordinate "implicitly" by keeping the status-quo after establishing an FTA.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between health locus of control, exercise self-efficacy and exercise benefits / barriers of female college students. Methods: Convenient sampling was used to recruit participants from a University based in Pusan. Data were collected from October 15 to December 20, 2007, and participants were 322 students. The questionnaires administered consisted of Multidimensional Health Locus of Control (HLOC) Scales, Exercise Self-efficacy Scale, and Exercise Benefits / Barriers Scale. Descriptive statistics, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficients were used to analyze the data. Results: The mean scores for the HLOC among female students was HLOC-I: 22.24, HLOC-P: 16.82, HLOC-C: 15.16. The mean scores were exercise self-efficacy: 37.45, exercise benefit: 2.96, and exercise barriers: 2.89. The 'double external' response pattern of HLOC was the largest group in female students with significant difference in exercise benefit between response patterns of HLOC. There were significant correlations between HLOC-I, exercise self-efficacy, and exercise benefit/barriers. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that tailored health management program by pattern of HLOC should be developed to promote the exercise behavior and enhance the exercise self-efficacy and benefit for female students.

  • The Korean government considers expanding the WtE share of total energy from 1% to 5% by 2020 through research and development (R&D) in waste-to-energy (WtE) technologies. This study attempts to measure the external benefits of investing in R&D in these technologies. To this end, a contingent valuation (CV) is employed. More specifically, a 2016 national survey of randomly selected 1,000 households was carried out across the nation to gauge the willingness to pay (WTP) for the investment. One-and-one-half-bounded dichotomous choice question was used in the CV survey, and the spike model was applied to dealing with zero WTP responses. The mean yearly WTP is estimated to be KRW 4,175 (USD 3.57) per household, which is statistically significant at the 1% level. Expanding the value to the entire nation translates into an investment of about KRW 79.1 billion (USD 67.6 million), which can be interpreted as the annual external benefit of the R&D investment in WtE technology.

  • Objective : The aim of this study is to determine which patients with progressively deteriorating acute cerebellar infarction would benefit from surgical treatment and which surgical procedure would best benefit them. Methods : Seventy six patients were treated at our hospital for cerebellar infarction over the past 3 years. Sixty nine patients received conservative management in the neurological department of our hospital. Among them, 7 patients [5 males and 2 females; average age, 49 yrs] were referred to neurosurgical department because of mental deterioration and underwent emergency surgery. Five patients underwent external ventricular drainage with suboccipital craniectomy and two patients underwent suboccipital craniectomy alone. Results : Of the 7 surgically treated patients, 4 patients experienced good recovery and 2 patients experienced moderate disability [disabled but independent] and 1 patient experienced severe disability [conscious but disabled]. There was no death. Conclusion : In patients conservatively treated for cerebellar infarction and showing mental deterioration and radiologically evident brainstem compression and ventricular enlargement, we strongly recommend suboccipital craniectomy [plus optional external ventricular drainage in case of showing hydrocephalus] as a first treatment option.
