Viewing zone shape and size perform a key role in creating viewing comfort for the viewer. The horizontal and vertical sizes of viewing zones, formed by a full color transmission type holographic screen with a stereoscopic image projection are investigated. The screens have been recorded as holograms of a narrow stripe shaped object with different width; to extend the vertical size of the viewing zone the holograms were exposed two times with the hologram shifting between exposures. The viewing zone parameters were measured as a function of the stripe width of the object and of the exit pupil size of projection optics for several holographic screens having the size of the 30 $\times$ 40 $\textrm{cm}^2$.
In order to investigate the effects of api-toxin therapy on depression of immune response, mice were exposed to cold stress $(-20^{\circ}C)$) in 30 minutes twice a day and api-toxin(Bee Venom from Korea and U.S.A) therapy was treated to the Kihae $(CV_6)$ locus of human body every two days with 4 sessions of treatment for 8 days. The mice were sensitized i.v. with $5{\times}10^8$ sheep red blood cells (SRBC) on the 4th day and challenged i.d. with $2{\times}10^9$ SRBC 4 days later. Immune Response for delayed type hypersensitivity (DTH), lympocyte transformation(LTT), hemolysin titer(HL), plaque forming cells (PFC) were measured.

For the economical and environmental-friendly fabrication of polisher, Mo mask layer were sputtered on glass substrate instead of Cr mask material. Mo mask layers were sputtered by pulsed-DC sputtering and Photoresist patterns were formed on Mo mask layer for different develop times and optimized. After Mo mask layer were patterned and exposed glass was wet etched by HF solution for different etching times, the remaining Mo mask was stripped by using Al etchant. Develop time of 30 sec and HF wet etching time of 3 min were selected as optimized process condition and applied to the fabrication of polisher.
Inevitable source-uncertainties in geometry configuration, boundary condition, and material properties may deviate the structural dynamics from its expected responses. This paper aims to examine the influence of these uncertainties on the vibration of functionally graded beams. Finite element procedures are presented for Timoshenko beams and utilized to generate reliable datasets. A prerequisite to the uncertainty quantification of the beam vibration using Monte Carlo simulation is generating large datasets, that require executing the numerical procedure many times leading to high computational cost. Utilizing artificial neural networks to model beam vibration can be a good approach. Initially, the optimal network for each beam configuration can be determined based on numerical performance and probabilistic criteria. Instead of executing thousands of times of the finite element procedure in stochastic analysis, these optimal networks serve as good alternatives to which the convergence of the Monte Carlo simulation, and the sensitivity and probabilistic vibration characteristics of each beam exposed to randomness are investigated. The simple procedure presented here is efficient to quantify the uncertainty of different stochastic behaviors of composite structures.
This study is about fire resistance performance of wood framed lightweight wall including a middle lintel as a traditional wall form in Korea. The target wall is non-loadbearing system which constructed with $38{\times}89$ mm ($2"{\times}4"$) wood frame and fireproof gypsum board covering, including a middle lintel made of $150{\times}150$ mm section glue-laminated timber. As a test results, all specimens have showed fire resistant performance over 90 minutes and tests were maintained until flame occuring on Specimen-l, 2, 3 at 91 min, 97 min and 98 min respectively. Fire resistance of the heat side gypsum board was 45 minutes and charring rate of middle lintel was equivalant with that of usual timber. The wood stud inside wall system showed relatively quick combution characteristic when exposed to high temperature with no temperature rising delaying time caused by moisture evaporation because of the dehydration preceded during the early period of fire side gypsum board resist to heat.
In order to assess the effect of solar exposure on pulmonary functions and evaporative losses from skin and pulmonary surfaces, in six healthy Sahiwal (S) and six Sahiwal ${\times}$ Holstein ($S{\times}H$) cattle were exposed to direct sun during summer. Breed differences were observed during exposure. Increase in sweating rate was higher in crossbreds (222%) than in Sahiwal (125%). Pre-exposure (ambient temperature, $32.6{\pm}0.85^\circ}C$, solar radiation, $0.9cal\;cm^{-2}min^{-1}$) evaporative loss from skin accounted for about 90% of the losses and remaining losses were contributed by pulmonary surfaces in Sahiwal. The contribution of evaporation through skin increased to 92% (ambient temperature $39.4{\pm}0.68^\circ}C$, solar radiation, $1.35cal\;cm^{-2}min^{-1}$). In crossbreds 80% of the evaporative losses were through skin before exposure which increased to 87% after exposure to solar radiations. Rectal temperature increase was higher in crossbreds ($1.5^{\circ}C$) than in Sahiwal ($0.8^{\circ}C$). With the increase in pulmonary evaporative losses, respiratory frequency increased to 2 fold in Sahiwal and pulmonary ventilation increased 1.6 times the resting value in Sahiwal due to solar exposure. In $S{\times}H$ crossbreds the respiratory frequency increased 3.5 times and pulmonary ventilation increased only to 1.8 times due to decrease in tidal volume. There was about 2 fold increase in alveolar ventilation in both the breeds, the increase in dead space ventilation was more in crossbreds than in Sahiwal. Behavioral symptoms exhibited by animals after exposure were profuse salivation, open mouth panting, tongue protrusion and general restlessness.
Purpose: In tissue engineering, it is important that the scaffolds have high affinity with cells for making efficient use of cells. The authors studied the binding affinity of human adipose stem cells(ASCs) to micronized acellular dermal matrix(alloderm) using biotin and avidin linkages. Methods: Human ASCs were harvested from adipose tissue obtained by abdominoplasty. ASCs($1{\times}10^4$, $5{\times}10^4$, $1{\times}10^5$, $5{\times}10^5$, $1{\times}10^6$, $5{\times}10^6$ cells) were attached to micronized alloderm(1mg) in three groups; 1) control group in which no ASCs and alloderm was treated; 2) serum group in which alloderm was exposed to fetal bovine serum; and 3) biotin group in which biotinylated cells were attached to biotinylated alloderm. The binding affinities were determined 1 day after making ASC-alloderm complexes. The proliferation rates were determined by XTT assays in 4, 7, 14, and 21 days and scanning electron microscopic examination was performed in 7 and 21 days after culture of ASC-alloderm complexes. Results: The binding affinities of the biotin group were significantly increased in all cell concentrations. Maximum binding affinity was observed at $5{\times}10^4/mg$ of micronized dermal matrix in biotin group. The viabilities were lowest in biotin group in contrast to binding affinity, but the difference was not significant. SEM showed well attachment of cells to micronized dermal matrix in all groups. Conclusion: The use of avidin/biotin facilitated human ASCs attaching to micronized acellular dermal matrix. This attachment would not disturb adipose stem cells viabilities. The present study suggests that avidin/ biotin can be used as making efficient use of cells in adipose tissue engineering.
Oxidative stress evoked hy Ultraviolet (UV) exposure has been suggested to be involved in UV-induced skin carcinogenesis. In this study, the role of oxidative stress in UV-carcinogenesis was evaluated by applying N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) in animal model of hairless-mouse. NAC is known to be a precursor of glutathione, which was converted to glutathione in cytoplasm, acting as an intracellular free radical scavenger. The glutathione levels in hairless mouse skin after one time application of NAC increased significantly. With and without the pre-treatment of NAC, hairless-mice were exposed to UVB three times a week, at total dose 274.4 kJ in 80 times, and the timing of tumor-development, incidence of skin tumor and the histopathology of tumors were observed. 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-0HdG), a typical form of oxidative damage in DNA has been also investigated in the course of experiment. The decrease of 8-0HdG formation of UVB- exposed skin compared to controls was observed in the early stage of experiment in the NAC-treated mice. In addition, initial tumor development delayed significantly in NAC-treated group. Finally the number of the tumor developed in the NAC-treated mice was fewer though not significant. These results suggest that antioxidants may have inhibitory effect in the initial step of UVB-induced carcinogenesis of hairless mice.
Phytoremediation of soil contaminated with cadmium was studied using Indian mallow (Abutilon avicennae) in columns packed with 80 mg Cd/kg soil. At 90 days after transplat, root biomass of the exposed plants was 4 times more inhibited compared to the control. Also, shoot length of the exposed plants was 3 times more inhibited than that of control plants. Accumulation of cadmium into tissues was in the order roots> stems> leaves during the 50 days, but the order was roots> stems> seeds> leaves during the 90 days after transplant. Regardless of cadmium contaminations, microbial activities were significantly greater in soil with plants than without plants. In soil column, cadmium was not transferred toward the lower part. Uptake of Cd by plant tissues was about 3.5% of the initial bioavailable cadmium for leaves, stems, and roots during the 90 days after transplant.

Concrete structures exposed to fire produce changes in their internal structure, resulting in their service life reduction due to the deterioration of its strength and performance capacity. The deterioration level are dependent on the temperature, exposure time, concrete mix proportions, aggregate property, and material properties. This study was performed to evaluate the thermal behavior of ultra-high strength concrete for the parameters of water to cement ratio (compressive strength), fine to total aggregate ratio, and maximum coarse aggregate size. At room temperature and $500^{\circ}C$, tests of ultrasonic pulse velocity, resonance frequency, static modulus of elasticity, and compressive strength are performed using ${\varnothing}100{\times}200\;mm$ cylindrical concrete specimens. The results showed that the residual mechanical properties of ultra-high strength concrete heated to $500^{\circ}C$ is influenced by variation of a water to binder ratio, fine to total aggregate ratio, and maximum coarse aggregate size.
