Concept Analysis of Triage Competency in Emergency Nursing (응급실 간호사의 중증도 분류 역량에 대한 개념분석)

  • Purpose : This concept analysis identified attributes and defined triage competency among emergency nurses. Method : Walker and Avant's approach was used to guide the concept analysis. A literature review was completed including 26 studies, 5 reports of related associations, and 5 books. Results : The concept of triage competency in emergency nurses was identified as five attributes: clinical judgment, expert assessment, management of medical resources, timely decision, and communication. Antecedents of the concept were triage education and emergency room experience. The consequences of the concept were efficiency of care, patient rating, and safety. Triage competency in emergency nurses was defined as the comprehensive ability to prioritize patients' urgency and allocate limited medical resources. Conclusion : This study is meaningful since it clarified triage competency among emergency nurses. The attributes and empirical indicators of this study will likely lay the foundation for development of triage competency metrics.

  • An automatic pronunciation correction system provides users with correction guidelines for each pronunciation error. For this purpose, we propose a speech recognition system which automatically classifies pronunciation errors when Koreans speak a foreign language. In this paper, we also propose machine scoring methods for automatic assessment of pronunciation quality by the speech recognizer. Scores obtained from an expert human listener are used as the reference to evaluate the different machine scores and to provide targets when training some of algorithms. We use a log-likelihood score and a normalized log-likelihood score as machine scoring methods. Experimental results show that the normalized log-likelihood score had higher correlation with human scores than that obtained using the log-likelihood score.

  • Supply Chain Management (SCM) has drawn high attention and been discussed and under investigation for over two decades. However, how Hong Kong manufacturing firms carry out SCM is still unclear. In order to open the myth on what essentials are critical for SCM implementation, a large-scale questionnaire survey was conducted together with Expert Interviews in 2003. A SCM framework was then developed in which all the critical factors were summarized, categorized and prioritized to come up with a foundation for a self-assessment system for improving SCM performance.

  • Life cycle assessment (LCA) usually involves some uncertainty. These uncertainties are generally divided in two categories such lack of data and data inaccuracy in life cycle inventory (LCI). This paper explo.es a methodology on dealing with uncertainty due to lack of data in LCI. In order to treat uncertainty of LCI data, a model for data uncertainty is proposed. The model works with probabilistic curves as inputs and with Monte Carlo Simulation techniques to propagate uncertainty. The probabilistic curves were derived from the results of survey in expert network and Monte Carlo Simulation was performed using the derived probabilistic curves. The results of Monte Carlo Simulation were verified by statistical test. The proposed approach should serve as a guide to improve data quality and deal with uncertainty of LCI data in LCA projects.

  • In many fields, Kansei engineering, often called Human Sensibility Ergonomics, has been applied to the product development for customer's satisfaction. Also, it may use to a lot of products and environments related to human's convenient life. If the measurement and the validation of human sensibility are accomplished subjectively and qualitatively, then a good design is expected. This paper considers an application of one of the Kansei engineering's techniques, extraction and categorization of the sensory words, to the products of mobile telecommunication units. First, 1st sensory words were extracted from Korean dictionary, catalogues, pamphlets, etc. Second, 2nd sensory words were extracted from the questionnaires, elimination of synonym, advise of expert, etc. Third, final sensory words were extracted from questionnaires, etc. Fourth, ask to answer the questionnaires with the extracted words in the five-grade semantic differential. Finally, The factor analysis is used to categorize the extracted sensory words, and shows that the words can be grouped into some categories.

  • Microscopic examination for the morphological estimation of wear debris on the oil-lubrcated moving system is an accepted method for machine condition and fault diagnosis. However wear particle anaysis has not been widely accepted industry because it is dependent on expert interpretation of particle morphology and relies on subjective assessment criteria. This paper was undertaken to estimate the morphology of wear debris on the oil-lubricated movig system by computer image analysis. The wear test was performed under different sliding conditions using a wear test device made in our laboratory and wear testing specimen of the pin-on-disk-type was rubbed in pararline series base oil. In order to describe characteristics of debris of various shape and size, four shape parameters (50% volumetric diameter, aspect, roundness and reflectivity) have been developed and outlined in the paper. A system using such techniques promises to obviate the need for subjective, human interpretation of particle morphology in machine condition monitoring.

  • In this paper, we have looked at through core competences and contents of Informatics curriculum in middle school by expert questionnaire and Focus Group Interview(FGI). Among nine core competences of Informatics subject in curriculum, abstraction and automation were easily found, but creative harmony and cooperation were indirectly confirmed in the statements of teaching and assessment sections of Informatics curriculum in middle school. It was also identified that some core competency elements are redundant or hardly to found in the contents of Informatics curriculum. In addition, various opinions about Informatics curriculum have been put forward over the FGI. The results of this study will be the case that can be consulted on new revised Informatics curriculum to be developed further.

  • In the present paper, a new framework, which is called visual SSIM (VSSIM), is proposed by incorporating crucial human factors into the SSIM. The human factors are foveation, luminance, frequency and motion information. Subjective quality test compliant with the Video Quality Expert Group (VQEG) multimedia group test plan shows that the visual SSIM is more correlated with the subjective quality result than the conventional SSIM.

  • Accompanied with ongoing calls for reform in statistics curriculum, mathematics and statistics teachers purposefully have been reconsidering the curriculum and the content taught in statistics classes. Changes made are centered around statistical inference since teachers recognize that students struggle with understanding the ideas and concepts used in statistical reasoning. Despite the efforts to change the curriculum, studies are sparse on the topic of characterizing student learning and understanding of statistical inference. Moreover, there are no tools to evaluate students' statistical reasoning in a coherent way. In response to the need for a research instrument, in a series of research study, the researcher developed a reliable and valid measure to assess students' inferential reasoning in statistics (IRS). This paper describes processes of test blueprint development that has been conducted from review of the literature and expert reviews.

  • The bone densitometer is to investigate the bone mineral content and density for the osteoporosis assessment by using dual energy X-ray photons. For the clinical verification of the ISOL's OSTEO plus, the clinical study was performed with healthy and non-menopausal 30 female volunteers. The fan-beam DXA machine (Lunar, Expert) was chosen as a reference. After correlation analysis of their bone mineral densities, a strong correlation was obtained. From the results, it is claimed that the new forearm bone densitometer is clinically useful in osteoporosis diagnosis.
