  • Due to the development of artificial intelligence and image recognition technology that play important roles in the field of 4th industry, office automation systems and unmanned automation systems are rapidly spreading in human society. The proposed algorithm first finds the variances of the differences between the tile values constituting the learning characters and the experimental character and then recognizes the experimental character according to the distribution of the three learning characters with the smallest variances. In more detail, for 100 learning data characters and 10 experimental data characters, each character is defined as the number of black pixels belonging to 15 tile areas. For each character constituting the experimental data, the variance of the differences of the tile values of 100 learning data characters is obtained and then arranged in the ascending order. After that, three learning data characters with the minimum variance values are selected, and the final recognition result for the given experimental character is selected according to the distribution of these character types. Moreover, we compare the recognition result with the result made by a neural network of basic structure. It is confirmed that satisfactory recognition results are obtained through the processes that subdivide the learning characters and experiment characters into tile sizes and then select the recognition result using variances.

  • One of the most important aspects of conducting this microbial risk assessment (MRA) is determining the model in microbial behaviors in food systems. However, to fully these modeling, large expenditures or newly laboratory experiments will be spent to do it. To overcome these problems, it has to be considered to develop the new strategies that can be used data in the published literatures. This study is to show whether or not the data set from the published experimental data has more value for modeling for MRA. To illustrate this suggestion, as example of data set, 4 published Salmonella survival in Cheddar cheese reports were used. Finally, using the GInaFiT tool, survival was modeled by nonlinear polynomial regression model describing the effect of temperature on Weibull model parameters. This model used data in the literatures is useful in describing behavior of Salmonella during different time and temperature conditions of cheese ripening.

  • The neutron induced nuclear cross-section data for Pd-105, Ag-109, Xe-131, and Cs-133 were calculated and evaluated from an unresolved energy to 20 MeV. The energy dependent optical model potential parameters were extracted based on recent experimental data and applied up to 20 MeV. A spherical optical model and a statistical model for the equilibrium energy, and a multistep direct and a multistep compound model for the pre-equilibrium energy were used in the calculation. The direct capture model was recently introduced for fast neutron capture. The theoretically calculated cross-sections were compared with the experimental data and the evaluated files. The total and capture cross-sections calculated using the model were in good agreement with the reference experimental data. The evaluated cross-section results were compiled in ENDF-6 format and merged with the resonance component, already adopted in the ENDF/B-VI release 8. New data library files covering from thermal to 20 MeV were created. They are at the preliminary stage of an ENDF/B- VII release.

  • This study was performed to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of the circular fin-tube heat exchanger. This paper contains the experimental data for the seven kinds of fin geometries. The correlation of Stasiulevicius agreed with the experimental data at high Reynolds number, however not well at low Reynolds number. The Nusselt number was well correlated with Graetz number, and showed a transition near Gz=10. An empirical correlation proposed in the present study agreed well with the experimental data.

  • Although applying experimental data of ergonomics to a industrial design seems to be a difficult task, making every effort to the application of ergonomics to the industrial design process is still attempted. Sometimes, it is easy to use experimental data, yet, it is very hard to take that data and implement it into the design process. The essence of industrial design depends on human sensitivity, thus we can call the sense of design the software and the experimental data of ergonomics the hardware. The harmony of this hard & software is very important for the process and development of design. New products always demand new forms. Accordingly, it is easy for designers to neglect applying experiments and ergonomic data to products for public users. However, the study of ergonomics data continuously helps to be applied to more products year after year. This paper explores, how to improve the design of the tilting angle related to the shape of knobs on a front panel of a computer monitor. The results of experiments show that a tilted angle is more efficient than that of straight-type when placed on the front panel of a computer monitor with a power button.

  • The current experimental study is the reinforcement of the simple curvature vault masonry structures. In this study, we discuss complex structure include vault and rib cover with two radii and actual dimensions under a vertical load. The unreinforced structure data were compared with analysis data. The analysis data are in good agreement with experimental data. In the first experiment, a structure without reinforcement is tested and according to the test results, the second structure was reinforced using the carbon polymer fibers and the same test is done to see the effects of reinforcement. Based on the test results of the first structure, the first cracks are created in the vault. Moreover, the reinforcement with carbon fibers will increase the loading capacity of the structure around 35%.

  • This paper presents the experimental data for the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics obtained during the gas cooling process of carbon dioxide in a horizontal tube. The tube in which carbon dioxide flows is made of copper with an inner diameter of 7.73 mm. Experiments were conducted for various mass fluxes and inlet pressures of carbon dioxide. Mass fluxes are controlled at 225, 337 and 450 kg/$m^2$s and inlet pressures are adjust-ed from 7.5 to 8.8 ㎫. The experimental results in this study are compared with the existing correlations for the supercritical heat transfer coefficient, which generally under-predict the measured data. Pressure drop data agree very well with those calculated by the Blasius' equation. Based on the experimental data, a new empirical correlation to estimate the near-critical heat transfer coefficients has been developed.

  • This paper presents the inverse dynamic analysis of the hydraulic excavator manipulator based on the experimental data. A three dimensional rigid multi-body model of the hydraulic excavator manipulator was built up. Inverse dynamic analysis for typical operation mode was carried out by the ADAMS program. In order to verify the analysis results with the measured, the hydraulic pressure and displacement of the cylinders were measured and the dynamic analysis was carried out using experimental data. From the results of the cylinder driving forces, good agreements are obtained between the analysis and the measurement.

  • Densification behaviors of mixed metal powder under high temperature were investigated. Experimental data of mixed copper and tool steel powder with various volume fractions of Cu powder were obtained under hot isostatic pressing and hot pressing. By mixing the creep potentials of McMeeking and co-workers and of Abouaf and co-workers originally for pure powder, the mixed creep potentials with various volume fractions of Cu powder were employed in the constitutive models. The constitutive equations were implemented into a finite element program (ABAQUS) to compare with experimental data for densification of mixed powder under hot isostatic pressing and hot pressing. Finite element calculations by using the creep potentials of Abouaf and co-workers agreed reasonably well with experimental data, however, those by McMeeking and co-workers underestimate experimental data as observed in the case of pure metal powders.
