  • The variation of alternative and cytochrome respiration during ripening in rice leaves (Oryza sativa L. cv. Takanari) was examined. The capacity of both respiration pathway was measured by inhibitor titration method using gas-phase oxygen electrodes. The alternative respiration rate decreased from 31.3% of the total respiration rate at around heading to 11.7% at 34 days after heading in the first fully expanded leaf from the top, and further to 6.4 % at 34 days after heading in the fourth leaf from the top. In contrast, the proportion of cytochrome respiration to total respiration increased with leaf senescence. The possible cause of alternative respiration as either an increase in inefficient respiration or a decrease in growth efficiency during ripening was discussed.

  • This research aims to demonstrate the regional and site scale groundwater flow simulation for the high level radioactive disposal research site in Yu-seong. We used the Modflow by a finite difference method for groundwater flow simulation, and Modpath module in Modflow package for particle tracking simulation. The range of numerical domain for regional groundwater flow model is $16.32km{\times}20.16km$. And, the depth of numerical domain was expanded to 6,000m. The area of numerical domain for the site scale groundwater flow simulation is $1.6km{\times}1.6km$. Since 2005, the underground research tunnel(URT) is being constructed at KAERI(Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute) site. In the site scale groundwater flow model, the groundwater flow around the KAERI site is simulated. And the change of groundwater level with tunnel excavation is also predicted.

  • The major object in this report is the curvature prediction of front end downward bending in plate rolling. Because of relations front end shape and curvature in plate, many simulations were carried out to obtain empirical model. Simulation conditions, for example the position and the size of bottom stripper or roller table etc., were limited to the POSCO conditions. Though the result in this report can be applied to the special case, the tendency of this result is similar to the many cases. So the empirical model equation can be improved or expanded to many simulation conditions.

  • In order to investigate the residual stress evolution during the leveling process of hot rolled high strength coils for cold forming, the in-plane residual stress of plate sampled at SPM, rough leveler and finish leveler were measured by cutting method. Residual stress was localized near the edge of plate. As the thickness of plate was increased, the size of residual stress region was expanded. The gradient of residual stress within the plate was reduced during the leveling process. But the residual stress itself was not removed completely within the ranges of tested conditions. The exact camber of cut plate was able to be predicted by the measurement of residual stress distribution after leveling of the plate.

  • Carbon contamination from the binder resin is an inherent problem with the metal powder injection molding process. Residual carbon in the W-Cu compacts has a strong impact on the thermal and electric properties. In this study, uncertainty was quantified to evaluate determination of carbon in a W-15%Cu MIM body by the combustition method. For a valid generalization about this evaluation, uncertainty scheme applied even to the repeatability as well as the uncertainty sources of each analyse step and quality appraisal sources. As a result, the concentration of carbon in the W-Cu part were measured as 0.062% with expanded uncertainty of 0.003% at 95% level. This evaluation example may be useful to uncertainty evaluation for other MIM products.

  • When performing a project, the most important thing is building a result with planned quality within development period. Particularly, if the project is delayed or has no good quality in the case of the mobile game development project which is sensitive to the release time and quality, it is immediately connected to the failure of the project. Extreme Programming is a methodology that divides the development cycle into smaller units for reducing the risk factor of the project in which the development period is important. In this paper, we suggest the Expanded Extreme Programming for mobile game development environment in which the development period and quality are important

  • The numerical model named "DWOPER-LEV" for the uncertainty analysis of flood inundation is developed. DWOPER model is expanded to compute overtopping risks of levee and to predict the range of the possible flood extent. Monte-Carlo simulation is applied to examine the uncertainties in cross section geometry and Manning's roughness coefficient. The model is applied to an actual levee break of the South Han River. The risks of overtopping are computed and the possible range of inundated area and inundated depth are estimated.

  • Since discovery, NdFeB permanent magnet has replaced application of the conventional magnets rapidly because of its superior physical and mechanical properties. With increasing consumption of power combined with energy resource depletion, energy efficiency is becoming more and more inportant. According to recent reports, almost almost half of the electric power is consumed by motor, and NdFeB magnets which are the core component of the motor play a key role on improving energy efficiency of the devices. In parallel with finding alternatives energy resources, research works improving energy efficiecy have been conducted world wide. Althogh NdFeB magnets usage have been expanded to various applications, key materials such as Nd and Dy, resouces lean heavily on specific area, China. Magnetic industry revently experienced skyrocketing price fluctuatioin of rare earth at around 2008. Chineses government's regulations worsened the situation and arose a necessity to develop methods to minimize rare earth use. In this presentation, POSCO's recent research works on rare earth reduction is presented including novel powder alloying method using nitrate precursors. Also, future R&D plans for rare earth free magnets is briefly introduced as well.

  • The adoption of expert systems mainly as operator supporting systems is becoming increasingly popular as the control algorithms of system become more and more sophisticated and complicated. The verification phase of knowledge base is an important part for developing reliable expert systems, especially in nuclear industry. Although several strategies or tools have been developed to perform potential error checking, they often neglect the reliability of verification methods. Because a Petri net provides a uniform mathematical formalization of knowledge base, it has been employed for knowledge base verification. In this work, we devise and suggest an automated tool, called COKEP(Checker Of Knowledge base using Extended Petri net), for detecting incorrectness, inconsistency, and incompletensess in a knowledge base. The scope of the verification problem is expanded to chained errors, unlike previous studies that assume error incidence to be limited to rule pairs only. In addition, we consider certainty factor in checking, because most of knowledge bases have certainty factors.

  • A product family design has received much attention over the last several decades, since a product family-based development shortens lead-times and reduces cost, as well as increases efficiency and effectiveness of the product realization process. It is challenging work, however, to define the product family design in the heterogeneous product development environments, due to myriads of products related information described in different ways across products in any companies. In this paper, we provided a way of defining product family design framework using formal concept analysis and ontology language. Based on this, the specific product family can be derived by ontological reasoning, and the new product concept can be also expanded in the framework. The proposed framework is formalized using OWL (Web Ontology Language) and implemented in $Prot{\acute{e}}g{\acute{e}}$. Actual product family design algorithm is carried out using FaCT++ engine, a plug-in to $Prot{\acute{e}}g{\acute{e}}$, and the benefits of the proposed method are also demonstrated through a case study.
