Poly (N-vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) groups were grafted onto a poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroryvalerate) (PHBV) backbone in order to modify its properties and synthesize a novel biocompatible copolymer. The crystallization behavior of PHBV and grafted PHBV was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and polarized optical microscopy (POM). During the cooling-induced crystallization process, the crystallization temperature and the crystallization rate of the grafted PHBV decreased with increasing PVP weight fraction. On the heating scans of all grafted PHBV samples, a new crystallization exothermic peak appeared at almost the same temperature, suggesting the operation of a recrystallization process, while the melting temperature ($T_m$) and the apparent enthalpy of fusion (${\Delta}H_f$) were not affected by graft modification. During the isothermal crystallization process at the same temperature, the presence of side PVP groups decreased the spherulitic growth rate and the spherulitic band spacing with increasing PVP weight fraction in samples.
It is well recognized that physicochemical properties of drugs are affected by the type of polymorphic crystalline form of drugs. Clarithromycin is known to exist in at least three polymorphic crystalline forms. Since conventional means to obtain the most thermodynamically stable form (Form II) for the antibiotics is known to be associated with a low purity of the stable form, we developed a novel method to improve the purity of the crystalline form by a modification of the preparation process. The new method involved a simple recrystallization of clarithromycin in solvents having 5-12 carbon atoms (e.g., hexane and heptane) or ethers with 4-10 carbon atoms (e.g., isopropyl ether) and, thus, less likely to be associated with the problem in purity of resulting crystal. Differential scanning calorimetry and powder X-ray diffraction were used to compare the crystalline form of the resultant powder with Form IIcrystal prepared by the conventional method. The crystal prepared by the new method was identical to Form IIcrystal of the conventional method as evidenced by the lack of the exothermic peak near 11$0^{\circ}C$ in differential calorimetry scan, indicating that Form IIcrystal could be readily prepared by the new process. Therefore, these data indicated that the improvement in the purity of the Form IIcrystal for clarithromycin as well as a significant cost reduction is likely by the novel method.

[ $(Ba_{0.6}Sr_{0.3}Ca_{0.1})TiO_3$ ](BSCT) thick films doped with 0.1 mol% $MnCO_3\;and\;Yb_2O_3(0.1{\sim}0.7mol%)$ were fabricated by the screen printing method on the alumina substrates. And the structural and electrical properties as a function of $Yb_2O_3$ amount were investigated. The exothermic peak was observed at around $680^{\circ}C$ due to the formation of the poly crystalline perovskite phase. The lattice constants of the BSCT thick film doped with 0.7 mol% is 0.3994 nm. The specimen doped with 0.7 mol% $Yb_2O_3$ showed dense and uniform grains with diameters of about $4.2{\mu}m$. The average thickness of all BSCT thick films was approximately $70{\mu}m$. Relative dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the specimen doped with 0.7 mol% $Yb_2O_3$ were 2823 and 3.4%, respectively. The Curie temperature of the BSCT thick films doped with 0.1 mol% $Yb_2O_3$ was $46^{\circ}C$.
The effects of aluminum nanoparticles (AlNs) on the thermal decomposition of ammonia perchlorate (AP) were investigated by DSC, TG-DSC and DSC-TG-MS-FTIR. Addition of AlNs resulted in an increase in the temperature of the first exothermic peak of AP and a decrease in the second. The processing of non-isothermal data at various heating rates with and without AlNs was performed using Netzsch Thermokinetics. The dependence of the activation energy calculated by Friedman's isoconversional method on the conversion degree indicated the decomposition process can be divided into three steps. They were C1/D1/D1 for neat AP, determined by Multivariate Non-linear Regression, and changed to C1/D1/F2 after addition of AlNs into AP. The isothermal curves showed that the thermal stability of AP in the low temperature stage was improved in the presence of AlNs.
[ $TiO_2$ ]ACF composites were prepared by the electrochemical method with Titanium (IV) n-butoxide (TNB) electrolyte under different electrochemical operation time. The BET surface area for $TiO_2$/ACF composites decrease with the increase of electrochemical operation time. There is a single crystal structure which is anatase in all of the samples from the data of XRD. The SEM micrphotographs of $TiO_2$/ACF composites show that the $TiO_2$ particles were well mixed with the ACF. There are O and P with strong C and Ti peaks in all samples from EDX results, and it also shows that a decrease of the C content with a increasing of Ti content with increasing of the electrochemical operation time in the over all composites. DSC cures show that the exothermic peak of all composites at $560^{\circ}C$ represents the transformation heat of amorphous parts to anatase phase and the discontinuous grain growth of the transformed anatase particles. Finally, the excellent photoactivity of $TiO_2$/ACF composites (especially, ACFT10) could be attributed that the decrease of concentration of MB can be concluded to be much faster for the adsorption by ACF than for photocatalytic decomposition by $TiO_2$.
Ploycrystalline $Pb(Zr_{0.5},Ti_{0.5})O_3$ and $BaTiO_3$ powder were prepared by sol-gel process. The alumina substrate were sintered at $1400^{\circ}C$ with bottom electrode of Pt for 2 hours. The Pb(Zr0.5, Ti0.5)O3/BaTiO3 multilayered thick films with laminating times were fabricated on alumina substrate by screening printing method. The obtained thick films were sintered at $800^{\circ}C$ with upper electrode of Ag paste for 1 hour, Structural properties of Pb(Zr0.5,Ti0.5)O3/BaTiO3 multilayered thick films were investigated. As a result of the Differential Thermal Analysis(DTA) of Pb(Zr0.5,Ti0.5)O3, exothermic peak was observed at around $650^{\circ}C$. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns indicated that BaTiO3 and Pb(Zr0.5,Ti0.5)O3 phases and porosities were formed in the interface of Pb(Zr0.5,Ti0.5)O3 / EaTiO3 multilayered thick films.
We fabricated thermal evaporated 10 nm-$Ni_xCo_{1-x}$ (x=0.2, 0.5 and 0.8) /(poly)Si films to form nanothick cobalt nickel composite silicides by a rapid thermal annealing at $700{\sim}1100^{\circ}C$ for 40 seconds. A field emission scanning electron microscope and a micro-Raman spectrometer were employed for microstructure and silicon residual stress characterization, respectively. We observed self-aligned micro-pinholes on single crystal silicon substrates silicidized at $1100^{\circ}C$. Raman silicon peak shift indicates that the residual tensile strain of $10^{-3}$ in single crystal silicon substrates existed after the silicide process. We propose thermal stress from silicide exothermic reaction and high temperature silicidation annealing may cause the pinholes. Those pinholes are expected to be avoided by lowering the silicidation temperature. Our results imply that we may use our newly proposed composite silicides to induce the appropriate strained layer in silicion substrates.
Effects of aging treatment on the microstructures and microhardness of a rapidly solidified Al-Li-Cu-Mg-Zr alloy were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) and transmission electron microscopy(TEM). The as-melt-spun ribbon was consisted of fine ${\delta}^{\prime}$ and icosahedral intermetallic compound which were precipitated in the matrix. Two exothermic peaks with the range of $120^{\circ}C-190^{\circ}C$ and $280^{\circ}C-344^{\circ}C$ corresponded to ${\delta}^{\prime}$ and ${\theta}^{\prime}$, S', $T_1$ precipitating reaction respectively, and two endothermic peaks with the range of $190^{\circ}C-280^{\circ}C$ and $344^{\circ}C-550^{\circ}C$ corresponded to dissolution of ${\delta}^{\prime}$ and ${\theta}^{\prime}$, S', $T_1$ respectively in DSC curves. Peak hardness value was obtained at $210^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr aging treatment.
Ni-Ti shape memory alloy for dental nerve treatment devices was prepared by adding Mo to Ni-Ti alloy to improve flexibility and fatigue fracture characteristics and simultaneously increase corrosion resistance. Surface properties of the alloy were evaluated. Microstructure analysis of the Ni-Ti-xMo alloy revealed that the amount of needle-like structure increased with increasing Mo content. The shape of the precipitate showed a pattern in which a long needle-like structure gradually disappeared and changed into a small spherical shape. As a result of XRD analysis of the Ni-Ti-xMo alloy, R-phase structure appeared as Mo was added. R-phase and B2 structure were mainly observed. As a result of DSC analysis, phase transformation of the Ti-Ni-Mo alloy showed a two-step phase change of B2-R-B19' transformation with two exothermic peaks and one endothermic peak. As Mo content increased, R-phase formation temperature gradually decreased. As a result of measuring surface hardness of the Ti-Ni-Mo alloy, change in hardness value due to the phase change tended to decrease with increasing Mo content. As a result of the corrosion test, the corrosion potential and pitting potential increased while the current density tended to decrease with increasing Mo content.
