교량의 기존 받침을 활용하는 내진보강시스템의 유사동적 실험 (The Pseudo-Dynamic Test for the Seismic Retrofit System Utilizing Existing Bridge Bearings)

  • 본 연구에서는 교량의 내진보강을 위하여 기존 교량에 지진격리장치를 추가하는 접근법을 제안하였다. 기존 받침을 지진 격리받침으로 완전히 대체하는 접근법도 이미 제안되어 있지만 본 연구에서는 경제성과 안전성을 고려하여 기존 받침을 제거하지 않고 활용하도록 하였다. 이는 지진격리받침이 상부 수직하중을 분담하지 않고, 수평방향의 지진운동에 대한 주기 이동과 감쇠 역할만 한다. 이 접근법의 실험적 검증을 위해 실제 교량을 대상으로 납-적층고무받침(LRB)을 설계하고 실물크기로 기존 받침과 LRB를 제작하였다. 이 지진격리시스템의 가상 지진입력에 대한 응답은 유사동적실험으로 구하였다. 아울러 범용해석프로그램을 통한 지진응답해석과 비교하여 실험결과의 신뢰성을 확인하였다. 실험결과 제안된 지진격리시스템은 지진시 안정적인 거동을 보였다.

탄성받침의 수직강성이 사교 지점 반력에 미치는 효과 (Effect of the Vertical Stiffness of Elastomeric Bearings on Support Reactions in Skew Bridges)

  • Bearings at the obtuse corner are subjected to much larger vertical reactions than other bearings because of the geometric shape of skew bridges. The current relevant specifications require that additional bars should be disposed at the bottom of concrete deck slabs to deal with the large vertical reaction on bearings at the obtuse corner. In this study, new methods of reducing the magnitude of the vertical reaction on bearings at the obtuse corner by the stiffness adjustment of bearings were proposed. The basic concept of proposed methods was to redistribute support reactions by reducing the vertical stiffness of bearings at the obtuse corner showing a relatively large vertical reaction. For 45 simply supported skew bridges designed according to the current relevant specifications, the redistribution effect of vertical reactions by the stiffness adjustment of bearings was investigated. Parameters such as skew angle, girder spacing, and deck aspect ratio that affect the distribution of support reactions were considered. The results of the analyses show that the magnitude of the vertical reaction on bearings at the obtuse corner can be reduced to the levels of straight bridges by replacing the existing bearings at the obtuse corner with new ones having the value of 1/10 or 1/20 of the vertical stiffness of the existing bearings. The reduction effect of the vertical reaction on bearings at the obtuse corner increases as the girder spacing decreases and it is more pronounced when the deck aspect ratio is 2.0.

  • Line type rigid bearings for Open-Steel-Plate-Girder railway bridges have several problem in service, and they are unstable structurally. Thus, spherical bearings having advanced maintenance capability and device to resistance up-lift are developed and replace the existing ones. A experiment of maintenance for a new placed spherical bearings under real Open-Steel-Plate-Girder bridge is conducted and their good maintenance performance is proved. The dynamic behavior of the bridge is measured and analyzed for the two cases of the existing and replacing bearings. Therefore, the effect of the new spherical bearings on the railway bridge is assessed.

  • In this study, an approach that installs seismic isolation bearings was proposed for the seismic retrofit of the existing bridges. The method that replaces all existing bearings with seismic isolators was proposed already. However, in this study, we recommend to utilize the existing bearings for the benefit of safety and cost. According to our proposal, the seismic isolators do not support vertical loads but they just function as the period shifter and the horizontal damper. To verify this approach experimentally, the real scale bearings and isolators for the real highway bridges were designed and fabricated. And the responses of this isolated bridges to the assumed earthquakes were determined by the pseudo dynamic test scheme. The test results were also compared to the responses computed by the well known structural analysis software to check the reliability of the test. From the test results, we found that the retrofitted bridges using the proposed method showed stable performances under earthquakes.

분리형 스페리칼 교량받침의 특징 및 교체실험 (Characteristics and Replacement of Separated Spherical Bridge Bearings)

  • This study developed a new separated shperical bridge bearing that can be used for replacement of existing bridge bearings without crushing bearing-concrete. The separated spherical bearing have the upper and lower sole plate connected by bolts to the upper plate under bridge-girders and the lower plate on bearing-concrete. The targets of the separated spherical bearing are the maximum 3 mm of up-lifting height during replacement and the maximum required time of 30 minutes. Four separated spherical bearings are manufactured and replaced the existing bearings of a railway bridge in service and the replacing tests was performed. The number of the tests is two and the target of maximum 3 mm and 30 minutes was satisfied.

  • High-efficiency turboblowers in the next generation have been successfully developed and commercialized first in the world, using the high-speed BLDC motors and the foil air bearings. About 20-35% savings in electricity consumption in the field are found in comparison with the conventional roots rotary blowers and the integral gear-driven turboblowers. Current TB75 and TB150 products are replacing the existing blowers in the worldwide market.

  • The existing contact-type bearings using rolling or sliding require continuous maintenance due to abrasion caused by friction and are not suitable for high-speed rotation and slimming. A magnetic bearing without contact can overcome such problems but the performance depends on the allocation of magnets and the structure of bearings. This paper proposes a method designing parameters of a passive magnetic bearing to improve levitation force. The proposed method employs Halbach array as the allocation of magnets, uses particle swam optimization to determine the structure of bearings. The numerical experiment shows that the levitation force is improved by the proposed method compared with the existing one using finite element analysis.

교량구조물의 받침 교체 효과 (The Effects on Structures caused by the Replacement of Bridge Bearing)

  • The effects on structures caused by the replacement of the bridge bearings are investigated in this study. The bearings of the bridge are seriously deteriorated because of the breakage of lower concrete and the corrosion of the bearing itself. Also, the negative reaction states are created at some bearings on the abutment. Then, the bridge has occurred excessive vibrations and severe noise and impact whenever heavy trucks pass the above joints. The existing bearings are replaced using the adjustable bearing. The height of the bearings is adjusted to minimize the level difference of above joint and also to induce the appropriate distribution of live loads The effects of replacing the bearings are investigated by measuring the behaviors of the bridge without and with replacing works. The results without replacing the bearing show that the distribution of displacements and stresses is distorted in comparison with the analytical results. Also the bridge without replacing the bearing shows that the impact and vibration from the heavy trucks are larger than those with replacing the bearing. Load carrying capacity of the bridge increase about 1.8 times through replacing the bearing. The above results show that the structural performance of the bridge is improved by replacing only bridge bearings.

  • This study proposes a sustainable bearing remanufacturing process using the ultrasonic nanocrystal surface modification (UNSM) technique. The UNSM technique is a newly developed and sophisticated surface modification technique that can increase the mechanical properties and improve the friction and wear performance of materials. Taking advantage of the bearing manufacturing process is the most significant way of optimizing the life of a bearing. The proper maintenance and usage of repaired bearings can increase their life to be equal to or greater than that of new bearings. This paper discusses the restoration of certain mechanical properties of worn, damaged, and discarded bearings, and suggests a remanufacturing process for used bearings, which can impart them with a lifespan equivalent to that of new bearings. The most damaged part of the discarded bearings is the raceway, which is the site of accumulated fatigue. The existing polishing or barrel finishing processes can recover the accumulated fatigue only partially. Rolling contact fatigue tests performed on UNSM-treated new and used specimens polished after $4{\times}10^6$ cycles reveal that UNSM-treated new specimens exhibit the longest fatigue life compared to other specimens. This study verifies the proposed complete fatigue recovery process, which can increase the fatigue life of used bearings to a level greater than that of new bearings.

판형교에서 개량된 스페리칼받침의 유지보수 및 동적 거동 (Maintenance and Dynamic Behavior of Advanced Spherical Bearings under Railway Open-Steel-Plate-Girder Bridges)

  • 철도판형교에 있어 선받침은 사용 중에 많은 문제를 야기하고 있으며, 구조적으로 불안정하다. 기존 선받침의 문제점을 파악하기 위해 수평저항능력 실험을 수행하였다. 유지보수에 용이하고 들림현상에 저항할 수 있는 개선된 스페리칼받침을 개발하여 기존받침을 교체하였다. 개선된 스페리칼받침의 교체성능 실험과 부반력 저항능력 실험이 수행되어, 유지보수 성능 및 부반력 저항능력이 증명되었다. 선받침 상태 및 스페리칼받침으로 교체된 상태에서 판형교의 동적 거동 및 각 교량받침의 동적 거동을 계측하여 거동의 차이를 분석하였다. 이러한 실험 및 분석을 통하여 개선된 스페리칼받침이 철도 판형교에 교량받침으로 사용하기에 적합함을 알 수 있었다.
