When the foundation work of the underground part of the building structure or the excavation work of the civil engineering structure is carried out, there is the earthwork work by the inevitable process. As the economic situation continues to develop, construction in urban areas is becoming bigger and higher in scale due to the expansion of infrastructure and the rescue of urban dwellings in urban areas, and excavation of underground roads is inevitable. Excavation of the underground part may cause problems in the process difficulty and safety of the earthworks due to the complexity and various characteristics of the ground selected without consideration of the ground characteristics and site conditions. In order to complete the required facilities, it is necessary to secure the design and construction of the retaining walls. In order to complete the required construction, It is an important factor satisfying construction period and economical efficiency.
Recently, when being constructed the large structures, the deep excavations have performed to utilize the underground space. As the ground excavation is deeper, the damage of the adjacent structure and the ground is frequently occurred. the Analysis of the retaining structures is necessary to safety of the excavation works. There are many methods such as elasto-plastic theory, FEM, and FDM to analyze the displacement of the retaining structure. In this thesis, GEBA-1 program by the Nakamura-Nakajawa elasto-plastic method was developed. The lateral displacement of the wall was analyzed by the developed program GEBA-1, SUNEX, and EXCAD, and compared with the measured displacement bye the Inclinometer. The monitored fields were three excavation work site in S-I, S-II, and S-III area. Excavation method of each site is braced retaining wall using H-pile. Excavation depth is 14m, 14m, and 8.2m.

In this study, the behavior and safety factor of a nailed-soil excavation wall during earthquake is presented. The horizontal displacement, axial force, shear force, and moment of facing of a nailed-soil excavation wall subjected to static and seismic load are analyzed using time history analysis. The safety factor based on the strength reduction technique proposed by Dawson and Roth is used to calculate the safety factor of a nailed-soil excavation wall during earthquake. The safety factor by the proposed method is verified by comparing with those by other methods.

Considering the stability of the ground in the process of excavation design is essential because there is a risk of basal heave due to the load of the surrounding ground during the vertical excavation. However, calculation of the factor of safety for basal heave should be performed with two-dimensional equation, and the equation cannot reflect three-dimensional shape of vertical excavation. In this study, an equation for factor of safety for the basal heave was proposed with considering the effect of three-dimensional shape. It is confirmed that the equation can more appropriately reflect the basal heave stability 3D circular vertical excavation than the existing equation. Using the equation proposed in this study, it is possible to derive an appropriate factor of safety according to the 3D excavation shape during the circular vertical shaft excavation.
In this paper, a track irregularity according to adjacent deep excavation of railway was analyzed using three-dimensional numerical analysis. The construction for excavation adjacent to the railway track is likely to have a negative impact on train operations. Despite mandatory assessments of the stability and impact on adjacent structures during construction, reports continue to indicate ongoing settlement and track irregularity resulting from construction. Changes in the groundwater level and stress state of the ground due to excavation are pointed out as causes for settlement and track irregularity in structures adjacent to the excavation. In this study, therefore, numerical analysis was conducted taking into account factors that induce track irregularity during adjacent excavation work as variables. The KRL-2012 standard train load was applied to simulate operating trains. As a results, The position of the train load, the distance from the excavation point, had a significant impact on track irregularity, and there was a significant occurrence of track misalignment when the train load was applied. The impact of the groundwater level was not significant.
The corrugated steel plate structures is applied to the construction of mountain tunnel portal part with shallow depth, the tunnel on the outskirts of urban areas and ecology move passage. In this study, A finite element method is used for research the behavior of corrugated steel plate structures due to construction position under declinating earth pressure and excavation depth. A finite element method were performed varying construction position(10, 15, 20 and 25m) from slope and excavation depth from surface. The hoop thrust and moment, displacement of corrugated steel plate subjected to construction position and excavation depth is determined from a finite element method. From results of finite element method, it was found that the increase of thrust and the decrease of displacement as the amount of distance increase from slope with construction position. But the thrust and moment, displacement has not different value with excavation depth.

Earthwork is very equipment-intensive task and researches related to automated excavation have been conducted. There is an issue to secure the safety for an automated excavating system. Therefore, this paper focuses on how to improve safety for semi- or fully-automated backhoe excavation. The primary objective of this research is to develop the core technology for automated object detection in excavation work. In order to satisfy the research objective, a diverse sensing technologies are investigated and analysed in terms of functions, durability, and reliability. The authors developed detecting algorithm for the objects using laser sensor and verified its performance by several tests. The results of this study would be the basis for developing the automated object detection system.

In order to apply the Limit Equilibrium Method generally used for the slope stability analysis to the vertical excavation walls reinforced by soil-nailing, in this study, the Limit Equilibrium Method for the temporary shoring facilities reinforced by soil-nailing was proposed, which is based on the stability for the horizontal displacement. In this study, the relation of the internal friction angles of the ground and the vertical excavation depths was arranged, which is satisfying the stability on the horizontal displacement by using the verification of the Limit Equilibrium Method. And then, the rational reinforcing length of soil-nailing was proposed for the critical areas. In addition, the modified safety ratio satisfying the stability on the horizontal displacement was proposed, when the Limit Equilibrium Method was applied to the vertical excavation walls reinforced by soil-nailing.

Supporting system design and construction management for the soft and hard rock layers with fractured zones are very important theme for the safety of temporary retaining wall, surrounding ground and structures in the urban deep excavation for the construction of subway, railway, building etc. The prevailing design method of supporting system for the soft and hard rock layers in the deep excavation is mostly carrying out by simplification without proper consideration for the characteristic of rock discontinuities. Therefore the behaviors of rock discontinuities and fractured zones dominate the whole safety of excavation work in the real construction stage, serious disaster due to the failure of temporary retaining wall can be induced in the case of developing large deformations in the ground and large axial forces in the supporting system. This paper introduces examples of deep excavation where the soft and hard rock layers with fractured zones were designed to be supported by shotcrete and rock bolt, deformations of corresponding ground and supporting systems in the construction period and increments of axial force in the upper earth anchors and strut due to the these deformations were investigated through detailed analysis of measurement data, the results were so used for the management of consecutive construction that led to the safe and economical completion of excavation work. The effort of this article aims to improve and develop the technique of design and construction in the coming projects having similar ground condition and supporting method.

This study analyzed the relationship between major parameters and numerical analysis results according to various excavations conducted around the urban railway, application of machine learning techniques and verified the scope of influence of the adjacent excavation on the existing urban railway box structure and the appropriateness of the safety area. This study targeted the actual negotiated adjacent excavation works and box structures around the urban railway, and the analysis was conducted on the most representative two-line box structures. The analysis confirmed that the difference in depth of urban railway, excavation depth of adjacent excavation, and depth of underground water level are important parameters, and the difference in excavation depth of adjacent excavation is the parameter that affects the behavior of underground box structures and is an important requirement for setting safety areas. In particular, the deeper the depth of the adjacent excavation work, the greater the effect on the deflection of the underground box structure, and the horizontal separation distance, one of the important requirements for determining the management grade of the existing adjacent excavation work, is relatively small.
