It is not uncommon that private wells and small streams are used for daily life in the regions where mountain tunnels are located. Then serious social problems such as well water level fall, being attributable to tunnel excavation can occur. In the design stage, firstly we evaluated that the quantity of leakage water into tunnels. And groundwater drawdown area was simulated using numerical modeling such as MODFLOW to reduce adverse effects on life environment around tunnel. In addition we also used hydrological method to evaluate the groundwater change of tunnel area.

In mining and its similar industries, compact excavators are used commonly in narrow working spaces, of which bucket must be rotated essentially. Considering of those applications, many kinds of the compact excavators have been developed, but any stress evaluation of bucket rotating part had not been attempted. In this study, using of the finite element method and Spare solver, stress analysis has been performed on the bucket rotating parts and its adjacent parts of compact excavator, with using an excavation stress model, in various directions and positions. Resultantly, it has been defined that stress of connector in the rotating part is a little higher, due to its shape, than those remained parts of which stress are shown equally as 1 MPa. Especially in the moving parts, the stress of bucket pin and rotating pinion gear has been calculated as 7.7 MPa and 40 MPa respectively.

Fractures, especially faults have most significant influence on the difficulties encountered in various engineering and mining works, because they can give rise to inevitable reductions in shear strength as well as large increase in permeability. Thus, before underground access is possible, it is desirable to estimate the distribution and geometry of fractures in advance, if reliable structural data from e.g. Televiewer tool are available. To this end, fracture face mapping is just the evaluation method used to form a fracture image determined by intersecting of each fracture plane with a selected plane section of a rock mass, assuming that all fractures be planar with fixed-aperture. Although many fractures are geometrically complex and others are altered chemically, according to the abundant experiments in recent years, it would seem that the technique could be applied to benefit the design of numerous engineering works such as slope stability, tunnel excavations, dam foundation and diverse environmental works. This paper presents at first an evaluation algorithm for fracture face mapping and then concludes with various representative examples of applications.
This study examined the magnitude and distribution of earth pressure on the support system in a jointed rock mass due to the different joint spacing as well as varying the rock type and joint condition (joint shear strength and joint inclination angle). Based on a physical model test and its numerical simulation, a series of numerical parametric analyses were conducted using a discrete element method. The results showed that the magnitude and distribution of earth pressure were strongly affected by the different joint spacing as well as the rock type and joint condition. In addition, the study results were compared with Peck's earth pressure for soil ground, which indicated that the earth pressure in a jointed rock mass could be considerably different from that in soil ground. The study suggests that the joint spacing as well as the rock type and joint condition are important factors affecting the earth pressure in a jointed rock mass and they should be considered when designing a support system in a jointed rock mass.
The design of underground cavern is basically governed by the mechanical properties of ground mass distributed around excavation. It is seldom possible to consider all the factors of ground mass properties in the evaluation of ground mass behavior as well as to classify those factors to a simple category. Until computer sciences have developed to calculate complex and laborious mechanical simulation of underground openings, ground behavior was quantitatively and qualitatively evaluated using empirical classification system. In this paper, analysis methods of ground behavior for underground cavern using the prediction of loosening zone, empirical method derived from rock mass classification and element stress analysis are described with chronological sequence.

Recently, detections of huge amount of wastes in the unsanitary landfills at a residential development sites were reported. Because the sites were the residential development sites, all landfilled wastes should be removed for the constructions. Therefore the way that the unsanitary landfills were excavated and then the wastes were sorted into three categories such as soils, noncombustibles, and combustibles was selected as the best method. Soils and noncombustibles could be recycled in the sites and combustibles could be compacted and be relandfilled in a smaller area.

In this study, the relationships between the displacement and stress of the tunnel using various analysis methods were compared with monitoring results carried out during construction and maintenance monitoring. The behavior of tunnel were measured in the subway tunnel passing comparative soft the weathering and analyzed both security and mechanical characteristics of the tunnel lining. With the results of simplified monitoring observed in top heading and bench excavation tunnel, it is confirmed that the crown settlement is larger than the surface settlement. it is interesting to note that the crown settlement and the crown shotcrete lining stress are widely used monitoring items for the back analysis. It is analyzed that the residual water pressure applied in the drainage type tunnel is reasonable.
Back analysis model, capable of calculating the mechanical properties and the in-situ stresses of jointed rock mass, was developed based on the inverse method using a continuum theory. Constitutive equation for the behavior of jointed rock contains two unknown parameters, elastic modulus of intact rock and stiffness of joint, hence algorithm which determines both parameters simultaneously cannot be established. To avoid algebraic difficulties elastic modulus of intact rock was assumed to be known, since the representative value of which would be quite easily determined. Then, the ratio ($\beta$) of joint stiffness to elastic modulus of intact rock was assigned and back analysis for the behavior of jointed rock was carried-out. The value $\beta$ was repeatedly modified until the elastic modulus from back analysis became very comparable to the predetermined value. The joint stiffness could be calculated by multipling the ratio $\beta$ to the final result of elastic modulus. Accuracy and reliability of back analysis procedure was successfully testified using a sample model simulating the underground opening in the jointed rock mass. Applicability of back analysis model for the underground excavation in practice was also verified by analyzing the mechanical properties of jointed rock in which underground oil storage cavern were under construction.
Anomalies and/or fractured grounds not detected by the surface geophysical and geological survey performed during design stage may cause significant problems during tunnel excavation. Many studies on prediction methods of the ground condition ahead of the tunnel face have been conducted and applied in tunneling construction sites, such as tunnel seismic profiling and probe drilling. However, most such applications have focused on the drill and blast tunneling method. Few studies have been conducted for mechanized tunneling because of the limitation in the available space to perform prediction tests. This study aims to predict the ground condition ahead of the tunnel face in TBM tunneling by using an electrical resistivity tomography survey. It compared the characteristics of each electrode array and performed an investigation on in-situ tunnel boring machine TBM construction site environments. Numerical simulations for each electrode array were performed, to determine the proper electrode array to predict anomalies ahead of the tunnel face. The results showed that the modified dipole-dipole array is, compared to other arrays, the best for predicting the location and condition of an anomaly. As the borehole becomes longer, the measured data increase accordingly. Therefore, longer boreholes allow a more accurate prediction of the location and status of anomalies and complex grounds.
Robot refers to machines that recognize the external environment and assess the given situations in order to operate autonomously by imitating the manner in which humans behave. Although Korea still lacks global competitiveness, Korea, as the $4^{th}$ ranked robot manufacturing country in the world, is currently expanding the domains of robots from application in manufacturing to application in service provision. Accordingly, this study aims to analyze the factors for the success in entry into the cooperation robot market among various robotic markets in accordance with the literary research method in consideration for the importance of robot industry that could determine the future national competitiveness. The result of the analysis of the factors for the success in entry into the cooperation robot market, shows that factors including analysis of the trends in manufacturing robot market, strategy for benchmarking of the leading cooperation robot companies, activation of small and medium enterprise-centered cooperation robotic industry, excavation of demands for cooperation robots with focus on automobile, semiconductor and IT industries, utilization of the opportunities provided by government's robotic industry policies and standardization of cooperation robot components, etc. determine whether one will succeed in the market or not. Furthermore, it is believed that fortification of competitiveness of the manufacturing sector through the powerful policy support for the robotic industry at government level and policies on cultivation of new growth engine through specialization of the robotic areas closely related to daily life must be implemented concurrently because it is forecasted that competitiveness in robotics technology will become the criterion for national competitiveness in the future.
