Appearance/Instance of Genetically Modified Maize at Grain Receiving Harbors and Along Transportation Routes in Korea

  • Genetically modified (GM) crops are not permitted to be cultivated in Korea, but can only be imported as food or feed purposes. The import of GM crops has sharply increased in recent years, thus raising concerns with regard to the unintentional escape of these crops during transport and manufacturing as well as the subsequent contamination of local, non-GM plants. Hence, monitoring of GM crops was studied in or outside of grain receiving ports as well as from feed-processing plants in Korea during July 2008. We observed spilled maize grains and established plants primarily in storage facilities that are exposed around the harbors and near transportation routes of the feed-processing areas. Based on the PCR analyses, a total of 17 GM maize plants and 11 seeds were found among the samples. In most cases, the established maize plants found in this study were at the vegetative stage and thus failed to reach the reproductive stage. This study concludes that, in order to prevent a genetic admixture in the local environment for GM crops or seeds, frequent monitoring work and proper action should be taken.

Comparison of middle-aged women's bodice pattern using 3D data -focused on the DC Suite program-

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an excellent bodice prototype that is adapted to the body shape of middle-aged women using 3D measurement data. In the evaluation of appearance, S pattern 4.00, B pattern 2.80, E pattern 2.40, L pattern 1.40 were shown in order, and the best fit of S pattern was evaluated as excellent. As a result of looking at the color distribution chart to find out the amount, E pattern and S pattern were not space in the front bust, armhole, and the back waist line. The B pattern and the L pattern were marked in blue because of insufficiency space in the back neck. As a result of evaluation the amount of air gap in the clothing, the air gap of the bust was 0.12, which is the largest pattern of B. Next, the L pattern appears as a tight circle with smallest air gap in the order of the S pattern 0.096, the E pattern 0.08, and the L pattern 0.003. The S pattern was evaluated to be the most appropriate for the body shape of middle-aged women. But the waist and back were slightly tight. Middle-aged women have larger shoulder-related items and larger waist circumference. Therefore, when you set the perimeter item, you should add 1-2cm of space amount and give extra space to the circumference area.

화재사례를 통한 건축물 외장재 종류별 화재발생위험성 (Fire Risk by Type of Building Exterior Material through Fire Cases)

  • Recently, the number of cases of fire spreading due to exterior materials of buildings is increasing. Due to the nature of modern architecture, which emphasizes the aesthetics of buildings, because buildings pursue a splendid appearance, they are inexpensive and have relatively good insulation performance, but an increasing number of buildings are adopting insulation materials that have poor fire safety performance. The risk of spread is also greatly increased. Since the exterior wall of a building is made of a variety of materials and structures, it is composed of a combination of several elements, including materials such as insulation and finishing materials. Therefore, it was determined that it was necessary to introduce a more systematic evaluation method for building exterior materials, and to improve the system reflecting this, away from the existing evaluation method that only checked the fire safety performance of finishing materials.

한국고유종 북방종개 Iksookimia pacifica (Pisces: Cobitidae)의 분포양상과 멸종위협 평가 (Distribution Aspects and Extinction Threat Evaluation of the Korean Endemic Species, Iksookimia pacifica (Pisces: Cobitidae) in Korea)

  • 우리나라 고유종 북방종개 Iksookimia pacifica의 분포양상 및 멸종위협을 평가하기 위하여 처음으로 정밀분포조사를 2017년부터 2018년까지 실시하였다. 북방종개는 조사기간 중 33개 하천, 104개 지점을 조사하여 17개 하천, 46개 지점 (고성군 배봉천~강릉시 군선천)에서 서식을 확인하였다. 서식개체수는 비교적 북천과 배봉천, 화상천, 천진천, 오호천 등에서 비교적 많았으나 사천천과 남천, 강릉남대천 등에서는 적었다. 서식지는 대부분 하천 중 하류의 물이 맑고 유속이 느리며 하상은 모래가 쌓인 소(pool)였으며, 위혐요인은 하천공사와 수질오염으로 추정되었다. 본 결과를 과거 출현기록과 비교하면, 처음으로 삼포천에서 서식을 확인하였으나 주수천과 전천, 삼척 오십천에서는 서식이 확인되지 않았다. 북방종개의 멸종위협을 평가했을 때 서식지가 3세대 동안 19.5%가 감소하고 작은 출현면적 ($1,343km^2$)과 점유면적 ($184km^2$)을 보였지만, 지소수가 많고(18개) 서식범위 내에서 비교적 넓게 퍼져 있으며 개체수도 비교적 많기 때문에 멸종위협 등급은 준위협(NT)으로 평가되었다.

LNG 저장탱크 구조물의 종합적 상태평가기준 개발 (A Development of Representative Condition Evaluation Standard for LNG Storage Tank Structures)

  • LNG저장탱크가 노후화 됨에 따라 외벽 콘크리트에 균열, 철근부식 등 결함이 발생할 경우, 손상 종류 및 정도에 따라 구조물의 붕괴 등 대형사고 발생 위험이 존재하게 된다. LNG저장탱크는 2014년부터 정밀안전진단이 시작 되어 안전점검이 수행되고 있으며, 부재별 상태평가기준은 2016년 1월에 개정되어 적용하고 있다. 상태평가는 액화천연가스 저장탱크에 대한 외관 조사 및 재료시험 결과를 바탕으로 저장탱크에 대한 상태를 평가하는 것을 말하는 것으로 유지관리에 있어서 중요하다. 또한 각각의 LNG 저장탱크 대표상태를 나타내는 종합적 상태평가기준이 유지관리 시 중요하지만, LNG저장탱크 외조 콘크리트에 대한 관련 기준이 국내 외에 부재하여 상태평가 기준 개발 필요하다. 이 논문에서는 LNG 저장탱크 구조적 특성 검토, 부재별 상태평가 기준현황 분석, 부재별 가중치 부여를 통한 종합적 상태등급 산정 방안을 수립하였다. 부재별 가중치 산출은 AHP(Analytic Hierarchy process)기법을 이용하고 전문기관의 설문조사 등을 통해 종합적 상태평가 기준을 개발하였다.

Evaluation of Bt-cotton Genotypes for Resistance to Cotton Leaf Curl Disease under High Inoculum Pressure in the Field and Using Graft Inoculation in Glasshouse

  • Bt-cotton germplasm, consisting of 75 genotypes was evaluated against cotton leaf curl disease (CLCuD) under high inoculum pressure in the field and using graft inoculation in glasshouse by visual symptom scoring assessments. None of the tested genotype was found disease free under both evaluation tests. Under field conditions in 2011, 3 genotypes were found resistant, 4 moderately resistant, 3 tolerant, 2 moderately susceptible and one susceptible; in 2012, 3 genotypes were tolerant, 7 moderately susceptible, 5 susceptible and 38 highly susceptible; in 2013, one was moderately susceptible and 51 were highly susceptible with varying degree of percent disease index (PDI) and severity index (SI). However, through graft evaluation in glasshouse, none of the graft inoculated plant was symptomless. All tested genotypes showed disease symptoms with SI values ranging between 5.0 and 6.0, and latent period between 12 and 14 days. Of the 75 genotypes evaluated using graft inoculation, 11 were found susceptible with SI values of 5.0 to 5.4 while remaining 64 were highly susceptible with SI values of 5.5 to 6.0. Inoculated plants of all tested genotypes exhibited severe disease symptoms within 10 days after the appearance of initial symptoms. No reduction in SI value was observed until the end of the experiment i.e., 90 days after grafting. Information generated under the present study clearly demonstrates that no sources of resistance to CLCuD are available among the tested Bt-cotton genotypes. So, a breeding programme is needed to introgress the CLCuD-resistance from other resistant sources to agronomically suitable Bt-cotton genotypes.

상태평가와 내하성능평가를 통한 소규모 노후교량의 유지관리 적정성 분석 (Analysis of Appropriateness for Maintenance of Aged Small Bridges based on Condition and Load Carrying Capacity Evaluation)

  • 현재 시설물 안전 및 유지관리에 관한 특별법에 의하면 소규모 교량은 육안점검 위주의 정기점검만 실시하고 있다. 특히 공용년수 30년 이상의 교량은 노후화에 따라 개축여부에 관한 의사결정이 필요하지만 외관상태만으로 결정해야 하는 상황이 발생하여 안전적인 유지관리의 측면에서 미흡한 부분이 있다. 본 논문에서는 기존의 교량 점검시 사각지대에 있는 일반국도의 공용년수 30년 이상의 소규모 노후교량 12개소에 대해서 육안점검을 통한 상태평가와 차량재하실험을 통한 내하성능평가를 수행하였다. 정기적인 내하성능평가를 수행하지 못하는 소규모 교량들에 대해서 육안점검을 통해 결정된 상태등급과 교량의 내하성능평가 결과를 비교하여 개축 여부 의사결정과 관련된 유지관리의 적정성을 검토하였다. 검토결과 대상 교량 중 2개소가 상태평가 결과 안전에 이상이 없는 것으로 나타났으나 내하력이 부족한 것으로 나타났다. 이것은 육안점검만으로 소규모 노후교량에 대해 안전성을 판단하고 개축에 관한 의사결정을 수행하는 것은 유지관리에 미흡한 부분이 발생할 수 있다는 나타낸다. 따라서 소규모 노후교량의 유지관리를 위해서는 상시 계측 및 내하성능평가에 대한 추가적인 연구와 교량관리시스템의 이용을 통해 가 필요한 것으로 판단된다.

유전자 마커를 이용한 하수오, 백수오 및 이엽우피소 종 판별법 개발 (Development of Primer Sets for the Detection of Polygonum multiflorum, Cynanchum wilfordii and C. auriculatum)

  • 본 연구에서는 건강기능성 식품원료로서 이용 빈도가 증가하고 있는 하수오, 백수오 및 이엽우피소에 대한 종 특이 프라이머를 개발하였다. 개발된 종 특이 프라이머는 하수오, 백수오 및 이엽우피소에 대해 원물뿐만 아니라 육안 확인이 어려운 가공식품 등을 대상으로 사용원료의 진위여부를 빠르고 정확하게 확인할 수 있었다. 따라서 본 연구에서 개발한 종 특이 PCR방법은 기존의 일반 프라이머를 사용하는 방법이 가지고 있는 식품 적용 한계를 극복할 수 있을 것이라고 판단하였다.

Psychosocial Predictors of Breast Self-Examination among Female Students in Malaysia: A Study to Assess the Roles of Body Image, Self-efficacy and Perceived Barriers

  • Background: Early detection is a critical part of reducing the burden of breast cancer and breast self-examination (BSE) has been found to be an especially important early detection strategy in low and middle income countries such as Malaysia. Although reports indicate that Malaysian women report an increase in BSE activity in recent years, additional research is needed to explore factors that may help to increase this behavior among Southeastern Asian women. Objective: This study is the first of its kind to explore how the predicting variables of self-efficacy, perceived barriers, and body image factors correlate with self-reports of past BSE, and intention to conduct future breast self-exams among female students in Malaysia. Materials and Methods: Through the analysis of data collected from a prior study of female students from nine Malaysian universities (n=842), this study found that self-efficacy, perceived barriers and specific body image sub-constructs (MBSRQ-Appearance Scales) were correlated with, and at times predicted, both the likelihood of past BSE and the intention to conduct breast self-exams in the future. Results: Self-efficacy (SE) positively predicted the likelihood of past self-exam behavior, and intention to conduct future breast self-exams. Perceived barriers (BR) negatively predicted past behavior and future intention of breast self-exams. The body image sub-constructs of appearance evaluation (AE) and overweight preoccupation (OWP) predicted the likelihood of past behavior but did not predict intention for future behavior. Appearance orientation (AO) had a somewhat opposite effect: AO did not correlate with or predict past behavior but did correlate with intention to conduct breast self-exams in the future. The body image sub-constructs of body area satisfaction (BASS) and self-classified weight (SCW) showed no correlation with the subjects' past breast self-exam behavior nor with their intention to conduct breast self-exams in the future. Conclusions: Findings from this study indicate that both self-efficacy and perceived barriers to BSE are significant psychosocial factors that influence BSE behavior. These results suggest that health promotion interventions that help enhance self-efficacy and reduce perceived barriers have the potential to increase the intentions of Malaysian women to perform breast self-exams, which can promote early detection of breast cancers. Future research should evaluate targeted communication interventions for addressing self-efficacy and perceived barriers to breast self-exams with at-risk Malaysian women. and further explore the relationship between BSE and body image.

음파를 이용한 비파괴 수박 내부품질 판정 시스템 개발 (Development of Nondestructive Evaluation System for Internal Quality of Watermelon using Acoustic Wave)

  • 음파를 이용한 수박의 내부품질을 비파괴적으로 판정하는 시스템을 개발하였다. 개발된 수박품질판정기는 크기가 $200{\times}200\;mm$, 무게가 290 g로 휴대가 가능하여 수박 재배포장, 집하장, 슈퍼마켓 등 현장에서 쉽게 사용가능하도록 개발하였다. 수박의 음파수집한 후 음파데이터에서 영교차율, 피크(peak)점간 거리 표준편차, 시간파형에서 진폭 적분값, 주파수대역 에너지, 영점빈도수와 같은 특징인자를 추출하여 내부품질을 판정할 수 있는 주성분회귀 모델개발에 이용하였다. 개발된 수박의 주성분회귀 모델의 상관계수는 0.79, SEC는 0.28로 판정정확도는 87% 이었으며, 모델 검증한 결과 상관계수가 0.78, SEP가 0.785로 판정정확도가 83%이었다. 생산자 내부품질판정 정확도를 조사한 결과, 생산자 판정 정확도는 75% 이었다.
