Synthesis and Luminescent Characteristics of $BaGa_{2}S_{4}:Eu^{2+}$ Phosphor by Solid-state Method

  • II-$III_{2}-(S,Se)_{4}$ structured of phosphor have been used at various fields because they have high luminescent efficiency and broad emission band. Among these phosphors, europium doped $BaGa_{2}S_{4}$ was prepared by solid-state method. We investigated the possibility of applying [ ] due to emissive property of UV region. Also, general sulfide phosphors were synthesized by using injurious $H_{2}S$ $CS_{2}$ gas. However, this study prepared $BaGa_{2}S_{4}:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor is addition to excess sulfur under 5% $H_{2}$/95% $N_{2}$ reduction atmosphere. So, this process could involved large scale synthesis because of non-harmfulness and simple process. The photo-luminescence efficiency of the prepared $BaGa_{2}S_{4}:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor increased by 20% compared with commercial $BaGa_{2}S_{4}:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor. From this, we could conclude that the prepared $BaGa_{2}S_{4}:Eu^{2+}$ could be applied to green phosphor for white LED of three wavelengths.

  • New green phosphor is synthesized by reducing $LiAlO_2:xEu^{3+}$ phosphors in a low pressure $H_2$ atmosphere. The $LiAlO_2:xEu^{3+}$ prepared by a solid state reaction method is reported as red phosphor. The effect of the reduction treatment on the $LiAlO_2:xEu^{3+}$ on the crystalline phase change and photoluminescence (PL) property are characterized. The reduced phosphor had a broad green light spectrum centered at 524 nm. The PL intensity of the reduced phosphor increased to a maximum at the reduction temperature of $1100^{\circ}C$. The PL intensity decreased with a further increase in the reduction temperature. The crystalline phase constituting the reduced phosphor varied with the temperature. A new crystalline phase $Li_2Al_4O_7$ was observed at $1100^{\circ}C$. The origin of the green-light emission is discussed in relation to the crystalline phase change.

  • Phosphors of $Eu^{2+}$ doped alkaline earth aluminates MA$l_2O_4:Eu^{2+}$ (M=Sr, Ba, Ca) have been prepared by sol-gel process and their characterization of photoluminescence and photocurrent properties have been performed. The phosphors prepared by sol-gel process, due to its advantage of better homogeneity and low synthetic temperature, was synthesized as single phases at lower temperature than the solid-state process; $800{\sim}1000{^{\circ}C}$ for 6 h under mild reduction atmosphere (Ar- 3% $H_2$). It was confirmed that SrA$l_2O_4:Eu^{2+}$ composition revealed the most excellent properties in the brightness and photocurrent.

  • The preparation and luminescence characterization of yttrium oxide doped with trivalent europium phosphors by sol-gel method have been investigated. Aqueous metal nitrate solution was mixed with EDTA which was chosen by the most suitable material of sol-gel formation one of appled various chelating agents. we noticed that the samples when are heated with EDTA at a temperature of $100^{\circ}C$ for 1hrs, produced brownish and crisp powders due to condensation reaction on decomposition, dehydration and formation of sol-gel. Hence, when the powder pre-heated was then heated at $1200^{\circ}C$ for 3hrs in atmosphere, the luminescence characterization of resultant $Y_{2}O_{3}:Eu^{3+}$ phosphor was enhanced upto maximum 30% significantly than conventional method through increasing porous region and decreasing particle sizes.

Aqueous metal nitrate solution was mixed with EDTA which was chosen by the most suitable material of sol-gel formation as chelating agents.   • The effect of Eu contents on the ferroelectric properties of $Bi_{4-x}Eu_xTi_3 O_{12}$ (BET) thin films has been investigated. Bismuth Europium titanate thin films with a Eu contents were prepared on the $Pt/Ti/SiO_2/Si$ substrate by metal-organic decomposition technique. The structure and the morphology of the films were analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and field emission scanning microscopy (FE-SEM), respectively. From the XRD analysis, it was found that BET thin films have polycrystalline structure, and the layered-perovskite phase is obtained when the Eu contents exceeds 0.2 (x > 0.2). Also, the ferroelectric characteristics of the BET thin films were found to be dependent on the Eu content. Particularly, the BET films doped with x = 0.75 show better ferroelectric properties (remanent polarization 2Pr = 60.99 C/$cm^2$ and only a little polarization fatigue up to $3.5{\times}10^9$ bipolar switching cycling) than those doped with other Eu contents.

  • 혼합된 희토류 원소의 농도를 정량적으로 분석하기 위하여 형광신호를 비선형 fitting하는 방법을 사용하였다. 본 연구에서는 Sm과 Eu 두 희토류 원소의 혼합된 형광을 비선형 fitting법으로 분리하여 그 농도를 분석하였다. 분석결과 감도면에서 한 가지 시료만 존재할 경우와 같은 정도인 sub-ppb의 검출한계를 나타냈으며, 혼합물에서 비선형 fitting법에 의해 얻어진 각 원소의 형광수명은 단일 원소만 존재하는 경우와 동일한 결과를 나타냄을 알 수 있었다.

  • $Y_2O_3$: Eu 형광체는 고효율, 열적 화학적 안정성을 갖고 있어서 평판 표시 소자용 적색 형광체로 널리 사용되고 있다. 고분해능과 고효율을 가지는 평판 표시 소자는 작은 크기의 구형 입자를 가진 형광체를 필요로 한다. 본 연구에서는 착체 중합법을 이용하여 100-300nm크기의 $Y_2O_3$ : Eu 형광체를 제조하였고 1족 혹은 2족 원소를 첨가하여 발광특성에 대한 영향을 검토하였다.

Elucidation of Electrode Reaction of EuCl3 in LiCl-KCl Eutectic Melts through CV Curve Analysis

  • The electrode reaction of $Eu^{3+}$ in a LiCl-KCl eutectic melt has been re-examined using cyclic voltammetry (CV). In this work, for the first time, the kinetic details of a $Eu^{3+}/Eu^{2+}$ redox system have been completely elucidated, along with the thermodynamic property, through a curve fitting applied to experimental CV data, which were obtained in a wide scan rate range of 0.5 to 10 V/s. The simulated results showed an excellent fit to all experimental CV data simultaneously, even though the curve fittings were performed within a large dynamic range of initial transfer coefficient values, formal potentials, and standard rate constants. As a result, a proper formal potential, transfer coefficient, and standard rate constant for the $Eu^{3+}/Eu^{2+}$ redox system were successfully extracted using the CV curve fitting.
