  • This study is to find social welfare practices that married women migrant can provide to them in order to relieve the stress of cultural differences and enjoy a good family life. Results,First, action plans to overcome intercultural differences are needed. To overcome effective cross-cultural differences, interventions and goals are set for culturally diverse clients that match their racial, cultural, ethnic, gender and sexual orientation.Second, it is necessary to cultivate professional education personnel. In order to train professionals, cultural diversity should be addressed in existing social welfare courses.Third, the related laws need to be rearranged. The Multicultural Family Support Act continues to emerge as a need for supplementation, including the understanding of Korean family culture and the lack of counseling for immigrant women. As a result, married women immigrants recognize that Korean life is different from their own in many aspects of their daily lives, so they endeavor to have a lot of patience and high level of effort in the adaptation process. Therefore, there is a need for a social welfare practice that can support this.

  • The purpose of the study is to figure out the difference in preference of clothes between Korean and Chinese female college students, who share similar ethnic traits despite having different sociocultural backgrounds and environment, and see the differences in their body image and body satisfaction. The questionnaire-based survey for the study was conducted for about a month and a total of 449 copies of the questionnaire were collected for the final research. For the research method, we examined the differences in clothes preference and fit between Korean and Chinese students, and then the corresponding differences in body image and body satisfaction. The result showed significant differences in the categories of skirt length, pants length, upper garment fit, and lower garment fit. Korean students preferred slim fit clothes, while their counterparts preferred natural fits. A comparison of body image between Korean and Chinese female students showed that the Korean students had lower body satisfaction levels, and viewed themselves as fat even though they were slimmer than their counterparts. The conclusion of the analysis was that compared to Korean students the Chinese students pursued a more comfortable and casual style, preferring unique and diverse designs instead of simply following a fashion trend.

  • China shows body size differences owing to varied climates, economic development, living standards, and ethnic distribution from region to region. That's why some regional research regarding body sizes is necessary for the advancement of clothing goods into China. Here, the materials of the Chinese standard "GB/T 1335-1997 Clothing Sizes" are analyzed to reveal the somatotypes of Chinese adults. Height, chest girth and waist girth were differently noticed in six areas. 1. The distribution rates of four body types (Y, A, B, C) were diverse in six regions. 2. Regional differences were seen as follows: 1) As for the height of male adults, areas 1(Northeast, Hwabuk) and 2(Central Western) were larger than the national mean. Areas 3(Gwangdong, Gwangseo, Bokgeon), 4 (Unnam, Gwiju, Sacheon) and 5(Downstream Jang River) were rather small. 2) As for the height of female adults, areas 1, 2 and 6 (Midstream Jang River) were larger than the national mean. Areas 3 and 4 were smaller than the average. 3) As for the bust girth of male adults, area 1 was the only area that exceeded the national mean. Areas 3 and 4 turned out smaller than the average. 4) As for the bust girth of female adults, areas 1, 2 and 6 exceeded the national average. The other three areas were lower. 5) As to the waist girth of adult males, areas 1 and 2 exceeded the national average. The other four areas were lower. 6) As to the waist girth of adult females, areas 1, 2 and 6 exceeded the national average. Areas 4 and 5 were lower. 7) In the height, bust girth and waist girth of male and female adults, most regions showed differences in means, regional distribution and regional rates.

  • One of the most important roles of a brain atlas is providing a spatial reference system in which multiple images can be interpreted in a consistent way. The brain atlase based on Western populations such as the International Consortium for Brain Mapping's 452 T-1 Weighted Average Atlas was widely used; however, they may not be the optimal choice for use with brain images from other ethnic groups, because structural differences between occidental and oriental brains have been reported. Therefore, in this study, we created an average brain atlas from 100 healthy Koreans (100 cases (M/F=53/47), 39.0±17.0 years). The purpose of this study was to make a Korean average-brain atlas and to measure its differences from a widely accepted average brain atlas built on an occidental population. The average brain atlas for Koreans was developed using widely accepted tools and procedures. The comparison between the Korean and occidental averages was performed using tissue probability maps and a registration tool, and it was shown that the global pattern of differences between the two average brains found in this work agreed with previously reported differences: Korean brains are wider and shorter in size, and smaller in volume, yet no hemispheric volume asymmetry was found.

  • This paper analyzes the trend of fashion and make-up in 1990s and their relevancy to each other. Based on the chronological analysis, we propose a new category for the fashion and make-up trend in 1990s, which is 1) traditional ecology period(1990∼1994), 2) versatile trial or decadent period(1995∼1997), and 3) soft landing period based on the minimal neo-ecology and romanticism(1998∼2000). Between 1990 and 1994, there was no differentiation in seasons. It appeared that spring/summer and fall/winter trend have had no big differences. At the beginning in 1990s, it was basically based on ecology concept that emphasizes the natural image. However after 1995, seasonal differences in trend are appeared and there were various make-up designs. The trends of spring/summer in 1996 could be named as color revolution period that emphasized the unique and individual expression of each person. In 1997, black, pastel, and brown colors were the result of reinterpreting the classic and sexy images of 1960s to natural and modernistic image of 1997. Purple color started to be introduced to us. In 1998, pastel tone, pink, and purple color expresses the glamorous look based on the romantic feminism. S/S of 1999 is mainly represented by minimalism and avant garde. For fall/winter trends, brown color lines make-up comes to mix with romantic image and developed into wine, orange, neon colors in 1995 and 1996. These colors were the symbol of property and sentiment. Gold make-up emphasizing the eye area was the tendency of that period. In 1997, the fear of coming end of century was expressed as decadent image. At that time, ethnic and romantic image appeared with vivid color lines, gold, red and violet. In 1998, romanticism was popular again with modernism and ethnic mood. It expressed the romantic elegant image. The trend has returned to the ecology mood again in 1999. This ecology is somewhat different from the previous ecology. It adds a sofistaiced feeling and sportic fashion. To express natural and sportic image, they choose pink blush. In coming 2000 as a new millennium, the yellow color will be main the stream to express vision, dream, and happiness in both fashion and make-up as an accent color. The minimal design and minimal tools will be used for the design and make-up, respectively. In addition, the fusion concept will dominate the fashion and make-up industry in the globalized and boundariless age. Through this paper, we hope that make-up can be accepted as a part of total fashion in its relationship with other elements such as shoes, clothes and accessory and that it can be considered as a independent art that has direct influence on people and industry.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the difference in depression level of Japanese, Chinese and Vietnamese wives who are residing in Korean society. Special focus was taken to compare the differences in terms of the origin of nationality. Guided by the role theory, we analyzed the effect of parental role and work role on depression of foreign wives. Also we considered the social resources, ethnic characteristic that are well-known to be associated with the role performance, in this study. The data came from the sample of 524 foreign wives case (Japanese 35%, Chinese 31%, Vietnamese 34%). The result show us that depression level is different by origin of nationality of foreign wives: Vietnamese wives were more depressed compare to Japanese or Chinese wives. The effects of two social role on depression were significant even if the social resources and ethnicity are considered in the model. However, the strength of the effect of social roles were different by one another: having a job was especially effective to decrease the Chinese wife's depression level, while for the Vietnamese wives, parental role was essential to lower the depression level. In addition, the social determinants of depression were differ by the nationalities of wives. The results imply that the social adaptation process of foreign wife may be varied by the origin of nationality.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine restaurant patrons' preference differences in interior design style of restaurants according to their lifestyles. Written questionnaires were handed out to 500 adults in Seoul and surroundings and the results were sampled by convenience sampling. The questionnaire was composed of respondents' general characteristics, lifestyles, and preference for 10 types of interior design style. A total of 415 questionnaires were usable for data analysis, resulting in a response rate of $83\%$. To analyze the collected data, frequency, factor, reliability, quick clustering K- means and One-Way ANOVA analysis were conducted using SPSS 10.0. The results showed that there were preference differences in 10 types of interior design style of restaurants according to lifestyle types which were categorized into 4 groups. The conservative and self-convinced group showed the lowest preference scores in the 10 types of interior design style which are Romantic, Ethnic, Classic, High-Tech, Elegant, Country, Modem, Minimal, Natural, and Casual style. The quality life pursuing group and extroverted individuality groups showed the high preference scores in most of the styles, especially in the Classic and Elegant styles. The realistic self-centered group showed the highest preference scores in Casual style among the 4 groups. These study findings indicate that restaurants should take into account their patrons' lifestyles as a mean of market segmentation, and respond to their taste and preference when they have established suitable servicescape.

  • This study examined the health status of female foreign spouses of multicultural families in Korea. More specifically, this study examined whether within-group difference exists depending on their country of origin in health status as well as determinants of their health status. For the analyses, data from the 2012 National Survey of Multicultural Families was used and a total of 165,451 spouses from China (both Korean-Chinese and Han Chinese), Vietnam, and The Philippines were included. The result showed that Vietnamese and Filipino women were healthier than Korean-Chinese and Han Chinese. The determinants and their size of the effect also varied across four groups of women. The results of this study highlight the importance of understanding immigrant women in the context of their ethnic background for interventions of their health. In addition, understanding their status and experiences in Korea must be in place for immigrant health studies, and potential differences by their country of origin must be considered in the development of health policies and practice.

  • TMPRSS2:ERG gene fusions in prostate cancer have a dominant prevalence of approximately 50.0%, but infomration is limited on differences among ethnic and geographical groups. Some studies focusing on Japanese and Korean patients reported a lower incidence. Investigations concerning Chinese revealed controversial results. We evaluated TMPRSS2:ERG, TMPRSS2:ETV1 and TMPRSS2:ETV4 fusions in more than 100 Eastern Chinese prostate cancer patients. Paraffin blocks of needle biopsy and radical prostatectomy were collected from 91 and 18 patients respectively. All patients' clinicopathologic factors were gathered. TMPRSS2:ERG, TMPRSS2:ETV1 and TMPRSS2:ETV4 fusions were tested by multi-probe fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) assay. TMPRSS2:ERG fusions was present in 14.3% biopsy specimens and 11.1% radical prostatectomy patients. Neither TMPRSS2:ETV1 nor TMPRSS2:ETV4 fusion was found in any case. Altogether, 13 (86.7%) TMPRSS2:ERG fusion positive cases possessed deletion pattern and 7 (46.6%) and insertion pattern. Some 5 cases had both deletion and insertion patterns. While 38.5% (5/13) patients with deletion pattern had distant metastasis, except for one metastatic case harboring both deletion and insertion, there were no patients with insertion pattern accompanied with metastasis. There were no differences between fusion positive and negative cases in the distribution of age, PSA, Gleason score and TNM stage. Eastern Chinese prostate cancer patients have a significantly low incidence of TMPRSS2:ERG fusion. They also lack TMPRSS2:ETV1 and TMPRSS2:ETV4 fusion. There are more deletion pattern than insertion pattern in TMPRSS2:ERG positive cases. Fusion positive and negative patients have no clinicopathologic factor differences.

  • The characteristics of allelic polymorphisms of the two (CA)n microsatellite (p599 and ㅅ599) markers spanning the long arm of chromosome 5 were studied in 52 DNA samples from unrelated inhabitants of Seoul (Korea) by using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to investigate differences in allele frequencies between Korean and Caucasian populations. The 6 alleles were observed for p599 (CA)n with a polymorphism informative content (PIC) value of 0.71 and 9 alleles for ㅅ599 (CA)n with a PIC value of 0.82. The observed heterozygote frequencies of the loci were estimated to 0.730 and 0.846, respectively. Several allele frequencies of two loci showed significant differences between Korean and Caucasian populations. Genotype data from the two loci were consistent with the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium by x2 test. Linkage disequilibrium between p599 (CA)n and ㅅ599 (CA)n loci was observed in x2 test between the observed and expected frequency of allelic association. The probability of matching calculated at each locus was 0.104 for p599 (CA)n and 0.043 for ㅅ599 (CA)n, respectively. These results demonstrate the need to determine populationspecific allele frequency distributions for polymorphic markers when performing genetic linkage studies in racially defined several populations.
