This paper deals with metaphysical aspects of responsibility focusing on Hans Jonas's Das Prinzip Veranwortung as an attempt to further the discussion on the responsibility of scientists and engineers. After the examination on the necessity of new ethics reflecting the characteristics of contemporary science and technology, the philosophical foundation and major themes of Jonas's future-oriented ethics, i.e. responsibility ethics are analysed. Jonas argued new ethics should consider man and nature simultaneously based on the unification of being and what should be, and presented collectivity, continuity, and future-orientation as a basis of responsibility ethics. In conclusion, this paper suggests implications of Jonas's argument for science and technology ethics such as sustainability, precautionary principle, and responsibility of creator.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper was to inquiry a philosophical foundation for the nursing ethics according to the Levinas' ethics which had emphasis on face to face interpersonal relationship and responsibility for the vulnerable other. Method: First of all, for the foundation of nursing ethics, a understanding of human vulnerability was a starting point; the nurse's bodily sensibility was regarded as a basis for the possibility of the ethical interpersonal relationship. Then, based on Levinas's ethics, it was explained how the moral responsibility for the calling of the suffering other could occur in nursing situation. Result: Nursing implied the altruistic ethical dimension on the subject of the responsibility for the vulnerable other. A nurse as ethical subject in her sensitive passivity is affected by the suffering other and exposed to the other. A nurse herself/himself has to response to the ethical demand of suffering other and to take responsibility for it. After all, based on the Levinas's ethics, the ethical interpersonal relationship could be characterized as the face to face relation, and responsibility for the suffering other. Conclusion: In view of that, his ethical approach could be a proper theory for the explanation of the face to face relationship and altruistic feather of the nursing ethics based human bodily sensibility.

Purpose - This study aims to explore the effects of social responsibility activities and business ethics practices on corporate trust and loyalty in the context of a large retail distribution business. Research design, data, and methodology - The data collected was analyzed using PASW Statistics 18.0. In order to verify the demographic characteristics, frequency analysis was conducted on the data. Results - The results of the study were as follows. First, social responsibility activities had a significant effect on corporate trust. Second, both corporate social responsibility activities and business ethics practices had significant effects on loyalty. Third, corporate trust had a significant effect on loyalty. Fourth, corporate social responsibility activities and consumer protection activities had a partial mediation effect, while environmental protection activities and social contribution activities had complete mediation effects. Conclusions - This study clarified and explained the factors of corporate social responsibility activities and business ethics practices that customers value, and analyzed the influence of these factors on corporate trust and loyalty.

The purpose of this study is to develop the elementary environmental textbook relevant to global warming based on responsibility ethics. To achieve the purpose, concrete study processes are as follows. First, the theory of responsibility ethics of Jonas was analyzed. Second, contents relevant to global warm ing on textbooks and guide books in the 7th elementary curriculum was analyzed through reference study. Third, the environmental textbook relevant to global warming for 5th and 6th grade in the elementary school was developed which was based on responsibility. The results of this study are as follows. First, responsibility ethics of Jonas has a lot of merit if it is applied to environment education. Second, according to the analysis into textbooks and guide books in the 7th elementary curriculum, the contents concerning global warming are very poor in both quantity and quality. Third, the elementary environmental textbook relevant to global warming for 5th and 6th grade students was developed. This textbook based on responsibility ethics will be expected to be efficient on the learning compared with subsidiary textbook in use.

Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the ethical responsibility and necessity of dental ethics education of dental hygiene students. Methods: Questionnaire was surveyed for 192 in dental hygiene students from October 14th to 18th, 2010. The ethical responsibility of the subjects was measured with the descriptive analyses and one-way ANOVA using SAS 9.2. Results: The findings were as follows 1. 82.8% of respondents received ethics instruction. 2. with regard to responsibility value of respondents, to clients and to colleagues were 3.71 (0.80) and 3.63 (0.82) was higher level than 3.49 (0.74) as individuals. 3. As for responsibility as individuals, item of personal health was the lowest value. 4. An advocate for the welfare of clients was the lowest value item concerning responsibility to clients. 5. As for responsibility to colleagues, constructive conflict management was the lowest item. Conclusion: This study reveals that dental hygiene students need to promote ethical responsibility and ethics instruction should be reinforced within dental hygiene curriculum.

Purpose : This study was to illuminate the main characteristics and limits of the feminine ethics of care when it applies to the nursing ethics, and suggested sufficient conditions of care ethics in nursing in order to actualize the autonomy for nurses. Method : This study inquired the relationship between the ethical trait of caring in nursing and Gilligan & Noddings's moral theory as feminine ethics in relation to supporting the nursing ethics. In contrast to traditional moral theories based on universal principles, Gilligan's moral theory emphasized the conscious of the interpersonal relationship on the basis of the empathy and the responsibility for the other's need in contextual situations, and Noddings developed her ethics based on mothering as a model for the caring relation, the moral feature of which was characterized as reciprocity, receptiveness and responsiveness. Result : The feminine ethics of care came to support nursing ethics considering the nterpersonal relationship and responsibility. However, it did not show a possible ideal of nursing ethics because it has some difficulties in actualizing the nurse's individual and professional autonomy in the health care system. Conclusion : Therefore, in order that ethics of care can be an ideal and universal nursing ethics, it should be studied in proper direction, that is, toward actualization of the autonomy of the universal ethical self in relation to the concern and responsibility for the other.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of social norms and personal ethics on recycling behavior. For this purpose, survey data from four hundred and fifty seven individuals were collected and analyzed using an SPSS program. The major findings were as follows: First, social norms had a positive impact on personal ethics and recycling behavior. Second, personal ethics significantly affected recycling behavior. Third, awareness of the consequences of recycling behavior (AC) and ascription of responsibility for environmental problems(AR) did not significantly translate personal ethics into actual recycling behavior. Fourth, ascription of responsibility for environmental problems(AR) and awareness of consequences of recycling behavior(AC) affected recycling behavior. These results suggest that in order to encourage recycling behavior, it is necessary to inform and educate the public so as to enhance social norms and personal ethics.

Korea is striving to establish a research ethics system, but there is still a disagreement as to the level of government involvement in research ethics. Therefore, this study analyzed the formation process of research ethics system in the United States and sought to derive implications for Korea's research ethics policy. The analysis of the present status of the research ethics policy and laws of the United States showed that i) the establishment of regulatory system is done only after the principles of the research ethics or the guideline are presented first in the academic fields; ii) the responsibility for research ethics is to be shared by the federal government and the research institute, and the primary responsibility for research is given to the research institute and the secondary responsibility to the government; iii) the government has imposed a minimum extent of strong regulation on unethical research; and iv) it is necessary to extend the responsibility of unethical research from the individual level to the structural level.

This study started from a critical review of the current problem of ethics education in engineering colleges, how it has become stereotyped and perfunctory and hence, is failing to properly foster engineers with a sense of responsibility. Existing engineering ethics education occupies a very limited role and weight in the periphery of the engineering curriculum, unable to hold a central position. This situation is of grave concern, especially when the leadership of engineers with social and professional responsibility is of great importance. Therefore, this study explored new directions and strategies for engineering ethics education while reviewing domestic and foreign studies dealing with the current status and problems of engineering ethics education. First, this study discussed the need for and direction of shifting to ethical engineering education instead of ethics education centered on liberal arts courses. Second, this study presented specific practical strategies to construct the ethical engineering curriculum. For example, it is necessary to establish the ethical engineering curriculum with an education linking ethics with human development goals, ethics education using Korea's current issues and agendas, micro- and macro-level analysis related to engineering, and leadership education.
