  • This study describes the estimation of upstream ungauged watershed streamflow using downstream discharge data. For downstream Dongchon (DC) and upstream Kumho (KH) water level stations in Kumho river basin ($2,087.9km^2$), three methods of Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) modeling, drainage-area ratio method and regional regression equation were evaluated. The SWAT was calibrated at DC with the determination coefficient ($R^2$) of 0.70 and validated at KH with $R^2$ of 0.60. The drainage-area ratio method showed $R^2$ of 0.93. For the regional regression, the watershed area, average slope, and stream length were used as variables. Using the derived equation at DC, the KH could estimate the flow with maximum 41.2 % error for the observed streamflow.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to improve the performance of the direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation of a speech source using a multiple signal classification (MUSIC)-based algorithm. Basically, the proposed algorithm utilizes a complex coefficient band pass filter to generate the narrow band signals for signal analysis. Also, reverberation component reduction and quadratic function-based response approximation in MUSIC spatial spectrum are utilized to improve the accuracy of DOA estimation. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the well-known generalized cross-correlation (GCC)-based DOA estimation algorithm in the aspect of the estimation error and success rate, respectively.Abstract should be placed here. • In this study, in the process of testing before the release of the software products designed, software testing manager in advance should be aware of the testing-information. Therefore, the effective learning effects perspective has been studied using the NHPP software. The finite failure nonhomogeneous Poisson process models presented and applied property of learning effect based on truncated time and delayed S-shaped software reliability. Software error detection techniques known in advance, but influencing factors for considering the errors found automatically and learning factors, by prior experience, to find precisely the error factor setting up the testing manager are presented comparing the problem. As a result, the learning factor is greater than autonomous errors-detected factor that is generally efficient model can be confirmed. This paper, a failure data analysis was performed, using time between failures, according to the small sample and large sample sizes. The parameter estimation was carried out using maximum likelihood estimation method. Model selection was performed using the mean square error and coefficient of determination, after the data efficiency from the data through trend analysis was performed.

  • This paper describes the radar tracking errors due to the presence of surface reflected waves. We investigate the previous studies on tracking errors and developed a tracking error estimation program using Matlab. We suggest an accurate error prediction method by considering the antenna beamwidth and surface reflection coefficient. The presented results well agree with theoretical predictions.

  • In this study, we estimated, the equivalent roughness using an estimation model, which considered grain distribution on the bed and the protrusion height of the grains. We also reviewed the appropriateness of the estimated equivalent roughness at the Goksung and Gurey station in the Seomjin River. To review the appropriateness of this model, we presented the water level-discharge relation curve applying the equivalent roughness to the flow model and compared and reviewed it to observed data. Also, we compared and reviewed the observed data by estimating the Manning coefficient n, the Chezy coefficient C, and the Darcy-Weisbach friction coefficient f by the equivalent roughness. The calculation results of the RMSE showed within 5% error range in comparison with observed value. Therefore the estimated equivalent roughness values by the model could be proved appropriate.

  • To contribute towards more accurate estimation of the virtual coefficient for the vertical vibration of the chine-type ship, experimentally obtained three-dimensional correction factors, J, of added mass of prismatic beams having cross section shape of hypotrocoid characters, slightly concaved Lewis form and elliptic form are investigated in connection with the applicability of an approximate analytical calculation method compared to that proposed by T. Kumai[6] for the Lewis form cylinders, and synthetically in compared with the experimental works on various cross section shapes of the other type by L.C. Burril et al[8] and the analytical works on the ellipsoid of revolution by F.M. Lewis[1] and J.L. Taylor[2]. The experimental results show that the aforementioned analytical method gives, unlike that for the Lewis form cylinders, considerably larger J-values for the chine-type cylinders, and that the influence of the character of the cross section shape on J-values is not remarkable in practical sense. Finally, considering in synthesis the experimental results on prismatic beams, the Burril's works on palabolic plan form and elliptic plan form, and that the chine-type ship usually has a hull form of transom stern, it is fairly safe to say, at the present stage, that adoptation of the Taylor's J-values will not results in any large error in estimation of the virtual inertia coefficients of the chine-type ships.

  • NIR spectroscopy is newly developed tools determining the soil properties. Phosphorus in soil is one of the most difficult and time consuming elements to assess for plant needs. The calibration coefficient(R) of NIR method for total phosphorus by $HClO_4$ and $Na_2CO_3$ P was 0.91 and 0.88, and available phosphorus by Lancaster and Bray 1. extractant was 0.88 and 0.82. According to Williams guidelines for the calibration coefficient, NIR method could also be used for estimating total and available phosphorus if one performed optimal calibration for predicting soil properties. Applicability of NIR spectra, if improved accuracy, may allow the use of soil testing.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop rural population model adapting cohort survival method with sift-share effects. Administrative district in this study is below Myun: about 2,000 population. Population data of rural area in 1990, 1995, and 2000 by age cohort were selected for applying developed model. Damping coefficient from population data was calculated as 7% and results applying this coefficient in rural population data below the error from 12% to 1.06%. In detail, most of cohorts fitted with developed model except from 15 to 29 age groups. Application result of small population area; DaesulMyun revealed that main factor of population change is not natural change but migration.

  • This paper addresses a new double detection algorithm which is based on the fuzzy control in the adaptive echo canceller of communication system. In this method, the two input of the fuzzy inference for detecting double talk condition are used. The one is the cross-correlation coefficient between the error signal and the primary signal which is the summed signal of the real echo signal and the near-end signal. The other is the cross-correlation coefficient between the estimation error signal and the primary signal. The fuzzy controller made a fuzzification for two inputs by the membership functions of trapezoid and them became the composition using inference rules. The composed result is defuzzificated by the center gravity method. The output is compared with two threshold values to detect double talk and echo path variation effectively. It is confirmed by computer simulation that this fuzzy double talk detector is able to track echo path variation accurately.

  • The present paper improves the direct identification scheme based upon the equation error formulation with incomplete modal data. First, an indirect estimation technique is considered for estimating unmeasured elements of latent vectors by the combined use of a model and measured incomplete eigen vectors. It is used for estimating the other elements of eigen vectors, which are essential for identification but not available. Next an index is introduced here to indicate the quality of estimation with respect to the mode and the measured positions. A sensitivity formula for eigenvalues with respect to the unknown joint coefficient is also derived to select the modes appropriate for identification. An identification strategy is suggested to meet with practical problems with the help of the index and sensitivity formula. The index and the sensitivity are proved to be useful for selecting measurement positions and modes appropriate for identification A comprehensive simulation study is performed to test the proposed method.
