  • The atmosphere of a caf is one of the most important elements for cafe interior design since it is linked directly with profit. As human sensibility ergonomics which is recently signified In various fields is an attempt to quantitatively analyze factors of human sensibility and apply it to design operation, it can be apt for analyzing caf atmosphere. Employing human sensibility ergonomics this study examined issues to be considered for preferred caf interior design. The outcome of this study indicated that the most significant caf design factors are "'style', 'artificiality' and 'enjoyment'. It also suggested a design guideline by evaluating features of each factor. Constructing a successful interior design can be achieved by applying this design guideline.

  • Compatiblity is a very generalized concept that has substantial applicablity to various aspects of human factors. It refers to the spatial movement, or conceptual relationships of stimuli and of responses, individually or in combination, which are consistent with human expectations. In this paper, first, several remarks which should be considered in designing the visual display and control of automobile are considered. Also, two advanced designs of visual display and control are suggested based on the compatibility principles.

  • Direct manipulations are composed of pointing operations and dragging operations. In order to find the optimum design parameters (such as C/D ratio, moving direction) for the direct manipulation of a GUI(Graphical User Interface), an ergonomic experiment was devised (2*4*3*8 design) to measure the performance of a mouse (Microsoft) and a trackball (Logitech). The results showed that the mouse was more suitable for the direct manipulation (expecially for the dragging operation) than the trackball, and the suitable C/D ratio was 10 (for the mouse) and 16 (for the trackball). Also the movement direction was a determinant factor in trackball performance.

  • Human sensibility ergonomics is the technique that qualities man's sensibility, measures and evaluates it Quantitatively and makes man's life comfortable, safe and delightful by applying it to products or environmental projects. This study consider the sensibility factor of Sasang constitutional medicine, five elemental properties, and Biorhythm in terms of human sensibility ergonomics. And this study measure reaction-time dependent on a temperament or a state and evaluate the differences of reaction-times objectively with the comparison and analysis using the ANOVA. We can harness it for job design.

  • Because the moving visual acuity is less than the static visual acuity, a new headlight system was designed and manufactured to make reparation for that. Then the new headlight system was built in a passenger car and some experiment was achieved. When the car is accelerated the luminous flux of headlight is augmented. When the speed of the car was increasing, the new system was effective, but when the car was decelerated the system was less effective.

  • The job design was frequently tried in many enterprises in order to give workers the job satisfaction, but there remains obscure about what kinds of human factors in job yield the satisfaction. This study is concerned with an experimental method for job design to account for such findings that work with conveyor gave workers unsatisfaction, and that enlarged job of work resulted in high job satisfaction.

  • Korean vowels have special feature such that same vowels do not appear sequentially in a syllable. And two vowels appear with consistent rules. Using this feature, functional key stroke methods are available to Korean computer keyboard. Tapping a key makes diphthong easily. This will be used to Korean computer keyboard design.

  • Objective: The aim of this study is developing an elderly automatic showering system by optimizing nozzle position and angle of water injection on ergonomics approach. Background: The elderly living in nursing home or hospital were increased by an aging population. Helping the elderly on showering is so hard. In addition, the existing showering/bathing systems are not effective because shower pattern of the elderly and washed range of nozzle were not considered. Method: Firstly, basic specification were determined by anthropometric approach. Secondly, position of nozzle and angle of water injection were determined through observation of elderly behavior on showering. And, finally, they were optimized by washing test and showering simulation. Results: On showering importance of body parts were able to analysis through observation of elderly behavior. The position of nozzle and angle of water injection was able to optimize by showering simulation. The automatic showering system was developed by considering their results. Conclusion: The most important technology of developing a showering system is the determining position of nozzle and angle of water injection, number of nozzle. It was developed by applying its results through user centered-research. Application: The user centered-research of developing products was able to apply directly to develop automatic bath, showering products etc. Further more it was available to apply senior friendly products.

  • Today we are observing a lot of injuries, casualties, and property losses that are mainly caused by the defects of products. In order to derive safety designs, which minimize the possibility of such product liability-related accidents, we need to take into account the user-product interaction as an important part of the danger factor analysis. Existing risk analysis techniques, however, have some limitations in detecting comprehensive danger factors that are peculiarly involved in human errors and the functional defects of products. Researches on danger factor analysis regarding the user-product interaction have been carried out actively in ergonomics. In this paper, we suggest a novel product risk analysis technique, which is more objective and systematic compared to the previous ones, by combining a modified TAFEI (Task Analysis For Error Identification) technique with SASA (Systematic Approach to Accident Scenario Analysis) technique. By applying this technique to the product design practice in industry, corporations will be able to improve the product safety, consequently strengthening the competitiveness.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to design a snow-removing tool using an ergonomic approach. Background: It is necessary to remove snow on the garden of a house or side street to prevent a fall hazard. When a user removes snow using a snow-removing tool, he or she experiences lots of physical discomfort. Therefore it is necessary to design a snow-removing tool to reduce a user's physical discomfort. Method: In this study, a new design for a snow-removing tool was developed considering user needs. The design prototype was compared with an existing tool through electromyography and subjective evaluation. Results: From the comparison evaluation, significant differences between the new design and the existing tool were identified in both muscle fatigue and subjective rating of discomfort. Conclusion: The result showed that the new design is better from the aspect of easing physical discomfort. Application: A new snow-removing tool can be developed using the design so that it can reduce a user's physical discomfort.
