Time dependent analysis of prestressed concrete beams subjected to pure torsion is studied. The present theory covers the behavior from the service load range to the ultimate stage. The tensile resistance of concrete is appropriately considered. The biaxial stress effects due to diagonal cracking are also taken into account. The time dependent aging, creep and shringkage effects are modelled by employing the equivalent nonmechanical torque concept. The present theory allows more accurate prediction of the service load behavior of pretressed concrete members.

Fatigue crack growth tests were conducted on urban railway wheel steel under mode I and mixed-mode conditions. Fatigue crack growth rates were evaluated in terms of equivalent stress intensity factor ranges, using both the extended and projected crack lengths. The equivalent stress intensity factor range with the growth rate results obtained under mode I loading conditions can be used to predict the crack growth rate under mixed-mode loading conditions. Extended crack length rather than projected crack length is appropriate for the prediction of the crack growth rate under the mixed-mode loading conditions.

To evaluate the structural integrity of the nuclear seismic category penetration cooling water pump under the seismic service conditions the seismic analysis was performed in accordance with IEEE-STD-344 code. The finite element computer program, ANSYS, Version 10.0, is used to perform both a mode frequency analysis and an equivalent static seismic analysis of the pump assembly. The mode frequency analysis results show the fundamental natural frequency is greater than 33 Hz and does not exist in seismic range, thus justifying the use of the static analysis. The stresses resulted from various loadings and their combinations are within the allowable limits specified in the above mentioned IEEE code. The results of the seismic evaluation fully satisfied the structural acceptance criteria of the IEEE code. Accordingly the structural integrity on the pump assembly was proved.

Considering the natural phenomenon in which steep slopes ($65^{\circ}{\sim}85^{\circ}$) consisting of rock mass remain stable for decades, slopes steeper than 1:0.5 (the standard of slope angle for blast rock) may be applied in geotechnical conditions which are similar to those above at the design and initial construction stages. In the process of analysing the stability of a good to fair continuum rock slope that can be designed as a steep slope, a general method of estimating rock mass strength properties from design practice perspective was required. Practical and genealized engineering methods of determining the properties of a rock mass are important for a good continuum rock slope that can be designed as a steep slope. The Genealized Hoek-Brown (H-B) failure criterion and GSI (Geological Strength Index), which were revised and supplemented by Hoek et al. (2002), were assessed as rock mass characterization systems fully taking into account the effects of discontinuities, and were widely utilized as a method for calculating equivalent Mohr-Coulomb shear strength (balancing the areas) according to stress changes. The concept of calculating equivalent M-C shear strength according to the change of confining stress range was proposed, and on a slope, the equivalent shear strength changes sensitively with changes in the maximum confining stress (${{\sigma}^{\prime}}_{3max}$ or normal stress), making it difficult to use it in practical design. In this study, the method of estimating the strength properties (an iso-angle division method) that can be applied universally within the maximum confining stress range for a good to fair continuum rock mass slope is proposed by applying the H-B failure criterion. In order to assess the validity and applicability of the proposed method of estimating the shear strength (A), the rock slope, which is a study object, was selected as the type of rock (igneous, metamorphic, sedimentary) on the steep slope near the existing working design site. It is compared and analyzed with the equivalent M-C shear strength (balancing the areas) proposed by Hoek. The equivalent M-C shear strength of the balancing the areas method and iso-angle division method was estimated using the RocLab program (geotechnical properties calculation software based on the H-B failure criterion (2002)) by using the basic data of the laboratory rock triaxial compression test at the existing working design site and the face mapping of discontinuities on the rock slope of study area. The calculated equivalent M-C shear strength of the balancing the areas method was interlinked to show very large or small cohesion and internal friction angles (generally, greater than $45^{\circ}$). The equivalent M-C shear strength of the iso-angle division is in-between the equivalent M-C shear properties of the balancing the areas, and the internal friction angles show a range of $30^{\circ}$ to $42^{\circ}$. We compared and analyzed the shear strength (A) of the iso-angle division method at the study area with the shear strength (B) of the existing working design site with similar or the same grade RMR each other. The application of the proposed iso-angle division method was indirectly evaluated through the results of the stability analysis (limit equilibrium analysis and finite element analysis) applied with these the strength properties. The difference between A and B of the shear strength is about 10%. LEM results (in wet condition) showed that Fs (A) = 14.08~58.22 (average 32.9) and Fs (B) = 18.39~60.04 (average 32.2), which were similar in accordance with the same rock types. As a result of FEM, displacement (A) = 0.13~0.65 mm (average 0.27 mm) and displacement (B) = 0.14~1.07 mm (average 0.37 mm). Using the GSI and Hoek-Brown failure criterion, the significant result could be identified in the application evaluation. Therefore, the strength properties of rock mass estimated by the iso-angle division method could be applied with practical shear strength.
Tensile tests and creep tests were carried out at high temperatures on an Al-$Al_4C_3$ alloy prepared by mechanical alloying technique. The material contains about 2.0% carbon and 0.9% oxygen in mass percent, and the volume fractions of $Al_4C_3$ and $Al_2O_3$ particles are estimated at 7.4 and 1.4%, respectively, from the chemical composition. Minimum creep rate decreased steeply near two critical stresses, ${\sigma}_{cl}$ (the lower critical stress) and ${\sigma}_{cu}$ (the upper critical stress), with decreasing applied stress at temperatures below 723 K. Instantaneous plastic strain was observed in creep tests above a critical stress, ${\sigma}_{ci}$, at each test temperature. ${\sigma}_{cu}$ and ${\sigma}_{ci}$ were fairly close to the 0.2% proof stress obtained by tensile tests at each test temperature. It is thought that ${\sigma}_{cl}$ and ${\sigma}_{cu}$ correspond to the microscopic yield stress and the macroscopic yield stress, respectively. The lower critical stress corresponds to the local yield stress needed for dislocations to move in the soft region within subgrains. The creep strain in the low stress range below 723 K arises mainly from the local deformation of the soft region. The upper critical stress is equivalent to the macroscopic yield stress necessary for dislocations within subgrains or in subboundaries; this stress can extensively move beyond subboundaries under a stress above the critical point to yield a macroscopic deformation. At higher temperatures above 773 K, the influence of the diffusional creep increases and the stress exponent of the creep rate decreases.

The clamp, as the structure which is used for supporting the pipe in the atomic power plant, is produced with a certain degree of anticlastic curvature in the current manufacturing process. In this study, the structural analysis of the clamp and the pipe was performed using ABAQUS. And the finite element modelling for the analysis was made by an HyperMesh. The contact forces which are transferred between the clamp and the pipe for the external force are changed according to the binding force of bolts and keeps the clamp tightly and protects the slipping between the clamp and the pipe. The clamps with the anticlastic curvature and with the flat curvature are considered in order to invest the anticlastic effect. In this study, another case is suggested. The present case does not have the stiffness ring on the end of the clamp but the suggested case has the ring. For the present case, the results showed that the equivalent stress is higher in the anticlastic curvature case than in the flat curvature case and the equivalent stresses on the pipe are almost the same as the binding force increses. For the suggested case, the result showed that the equivalent stress in the anticlastic curvature case decreases until some binding force and increases as the binding forces increase and is lower in some range than in the flat curvature case. From this study, the clamp with the anticlastic curvature in the suggested method is better than the clamp with the flat curvature and the optimal binding force are given.
Aiming at the problems of large dv/dt and di/dt in traditional single-ended converters and high electromagnetic interference (EMI) noise levels, a single-ended isolated converter using the secondary resonance technique is proposed in this paper. In the proposed converter, the voltage stress of the main power switch can be reduced and the voltage across the output diode is clamped to the output voltage when compared to the conventional flyback converter. In addition, the peak current stress through the main power switch can be decreased and zero current switching (ZCS) of the output diode can be achieved through the resonance technique. Moreover, the EMI noise coupling path and an equivalent model of the proposed converter topology are presented through the operational principle of the proposed converter. Analysis results indicate that the common mode (CM) EMI noise and the differential mode (DM) EMI noise of such a converter are deduced since the frequency spectra of the equivalent controlled voltage sources and controlled current source are decreased when compared with the traditional flyback converter. Furthermore, appropriate parameter selection of the resonant circuit network can increase the equivalent impedance in the EMI coupling path in the low frequency range, which further reduces the common mode interference. Finally, a simulation model and a 60W experimental prototype of the proposed converter are built and tested. Experimental results verify the theoretical analysis.
This article deals with the buckling behaviour of multilayered magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) plate subjected to uniaxial and biaxial compressive (in-plane) loads. The constitutive equations of MEE material are used to derive a finite element (FE) formulation involving the coupling between electric, magnetic and elastic fields. The displacement field corresponding to first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) has been employed. The in-plane stress distribution within the MEE plate existing due to the enacted force is considered to be equivalent to the applied in-plane compressive load in the pre-buckling range. The same stress distribution is used to derive the potential energy functional. The non-dimensional critical buckling load is accomplished from the solution of allied linear eigenvalue problem. Influence of stacking sequence, span to thickness ratio, aspect ratio, load factor and boundary condition on critical buckling load and their corresponding mode shape is investigated. In addition, static deflection of MEE plate under the sinusoidal and the uniformly distributed load has been studied for different stacking sequences and boundary conditions.

Sheet aluminum alloys used in manufacturing of machine structures for transportation show the difference of crack growth speed depending on thickness under the constant fatigue stress condition. The referred thickness effect is a major fatigue failure property of sheet aluminum alloys. In this work, we identified the thickness effect in fatigue test of thick plate and thin plate of Al 2024-T3 alloy under the constant fatigue stress condition, and presented the thickness effect to a correlative equation, $U_{i}^{equ}=f(R_t)$ which is determined by the shape factor, thickness ratio, $R_t$ and the loading factor, equivalent effective stress intensity ratio depending on thickness, $U_{i}^{equ}$. And we analyzed quantitatively the crack growth retardation behavior in thin plate compared to thick plate by the thickness effect using ${\Delta}K$ conversion method. We obtained such values as decrement of thickness(DoT), decrement of stress intensity factor range, ${\Delta}K$ (DoS) and identified the relation between them to present the nature of thickness effect in this work.
Based on a numerical method to analyse the full-range behaviour of prestressed concrete beams with unbonded tendons, parametric studies are carried out to investigate the influence of 11 parameters on the curvature ductility of unbonded prestressed concrete (UPC) beams. It is found that, among various parameters studied, the depth to prestressing tendons, depth to non-prestressed tension steel, partial prestressing ratio, yield strength of non-prestressed tension steel and concrete compressive strength have substantial effects on the curvature ductility. Although the curvature ductility of UPC beams is affected by a large number of factors, rather simple equations can be formulated for reasonably accurate estimation of curvature ductility. Conversion factors are introduced to cope with the difference in partial safety factors, shapes of equivalent stress blocks and the equations to predict the ultimate tendon stress in BS8110, EC2 and ACI318. The same equations can also be used to provide conservative estimates of ductility of UPC beams with compression steel.
