Experimental investigations were conducted to study the forced convection of fully-developed turbulent f)on· in horizontal equilateral duct fabricated with the same length and equivalent diameter, but different surface roughness Pitch ratio(P/e) of 4, 8 and 16 on the one side wall only The experiments were performed with the hydraulic diameter based Reynolds number ranged from 70.000 to 10,000 The entire bottom wall of the duct was heated uniformly and the other surfaces were thermally insulated. To understand the mechanisms of the heat transfer enhancement. measurements of the heat transfer were done to investigate the contributive factor of heat transfer promotion. namely the fin effect. And the results were compared with those of Previous investigations for similarly configured channels, at which they were roughened by regularly spaced transverse ribs in the rectangular and circular channels.

A carbon/epoxy composite drive shaft used for the power transmission of the automobiles with steel joints. Compared with the metallic drive shaft, the composite one has the weight saving of 50% with equivalent torsional strength and fatigue characteristics. In this study, the filament winding technique for the composite tube and composite/metal joining technique are estabilished. The performance test of the drive shaft is carried out. The optimal condition of the surface roughness of the steel adherend was $1.5{{\mu}m}$ to $2.5{{\mu}m}$, and the optimal condition of the bonding thickness was 0.15mm. Maximum torque and torsional stiffness of the composite drive shaft manufactured by filament winding process were found to be $210kg{\cdot}m$ and $18.5kg{\cdot}m/deg$, respectively.

Because the interfaces between two different materials are the weak-link in the underground power transmission systems, they affects the stability of insulation systems. In this paper, Epoxy/EPDM interface is selected and investigated the optimum condition by variation of interfacial conditions such as roughness of surface, spreading of oils, interfacial pressure and temperature. The breakdown times under the constant voltage below the breakdown voltage were also gamed. The breakdown voltage at the after laying time equivalent to is calculated by the V-t characteristic and the inverse power law. When this is done. the characteristic life exponent n is used and the long time breakdown voltage can be evaluated.
Chromium carbide films were deposited on high speed steels using a Cr_3C_2$ target by magnetron sputtering. Effects of the deposition parameters (power, Ar pressure and substrate temperature) on deposition rates and surface roughnesses of the films were investigated. The morphologies of those films were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. The grain size of the samples deposited using dc-power is larger than that using equivalent rf-power. The hardness of the sample increases with increasing rf-power, whereas the elastic modulus nearly does not change with rf-power. The optimum sputter deposition conditions for chromium carbide on high speed steels in the corrosion resistance aspect were found to be the rf-power with small roughness.
The numerical procedure to analyze a non-steady 3-dimensional elastohydrodynamic lubrication on the cyclically loaded contact has been newly developed. The procedure was applied on the cam-roller contact of the valve mechanism for the marine diesel engine. Both the pressure distribution and the film thickness between the cam and roller follower were calculated for each time step of the whole cycle. The pressure spike is shown at the outlet of the roller edge and it is getting higher as the external load is increased. The film thicknesses in the result of the non-steady analysis have a tendency to increase compared to those in the result of the analysis with the assumption of steady state. Therefore, the surface roughness of the non-steady contact need not be limited below that of the steady contact of the equivalent operating conditions.

In this study, we conducted the preliminary research for high speed laser cutting of LED module. In particular, the feasibility of ultra-high speed laser cutting of 100 mm/s which exceeds the cutting speed of conventional dicing saw was examined. For this, copper/ceramic and silicone/ceramic hybrid substrates, which are the components of the LED module, were fabricated, and the surface morphology, surface roughness and flexural strength of the laser-cut samples were investigate and compared with the dicing-cut samples. To investigate optimal laser cutting conditions for hybrid substrates, the effects of various laser cutting conditions on cutting surface characteristics were studied using single ceramic and copper substrate. Optimal laser cutting conditions of the hybrid substrates were the use of Ar assist gas, high laser power and high assist gas pressure. Comparing the cutting surface of the hybrid substrates, the surface characteristics of the laser-cut samples are slightly inferior to those of the dicing-cut samples. The average surface roughness of the laser-cut samples was about $9{\mu}m$, and that of the dicing-cut samples was about $4{\mu}m$. However, considering very low cutting speed (3 mm/s) of the dicing saw, the surface morphology of the laser-cut sample was relatively uniform, and the surface roughness was not much different from that of the dicing-cut sample. The flexural strength of the laser-cut samples was equivalent to or slightly inferior to the flexural strength of dicing-cut samples. However, if the laser processing conditions are sufficiently optimized, the ultra-high speed laser cutting of the LED module will be possible.

Most of flood protection walls built on the impingement in mountain rivers have been made of concrete. It may cause flood disasters because the smooth wall surface could increase flow velocity. In this study the hydraulic experiments was carried out to evaluate the effect of one side wall with rectangular vertical ribs on flow resistance in open channel. The ratio of the pitch between vertical ribs to its depth, ${\lambda}_{nv}$, was designed so that it include the so-called d type and k type roughness. The range of Froude number, $F_r$, based on hydraulic radius is 0.81~1.12. Flow resistance in the open channel with a rib sidewall depends on the interval length of each ribs and the flow discharge. Maximum flow resistance occurred when ${\lambda}_{nv}$ is 9. In the d type roughness which ${\lambda}_{nv}$ is less than 3, the flow resistance decreases with increase of flow discharge. In the k type roughness which ${\lambda}_{nv}$ is greater than 3, the flow resistance increases with increase of flow discharge. The increments of flow resistance are especially great when ${\lambda}_{nv}$ are 9 and 12. The resistance due to vertical rib is mostly by the shape resistance and the vertical rib on one sidewall of open channel affects on the flow resistance so that the equivalent roughness heights of vertical rib may occur in scale of flow depth. Therefore the vertical ribs may be used to reduce the flow velocity and to move the location of maximum flow velocity from the rib sidewall to the centerward in a cross section of channels.
The storage function method is used as a flood prediction model for four flood control offices in Korea as a method to analyze the actual rainfall-runoff relationship with non-linearity. It is essential to accurately estimate the parameters of the storage function method for accurate runoff analysis. However, the parameters of the storage function method currently in use are estimated by the empirical formula developed by the limited hydrological analysis in 2012; therefore, they are somewhat inaccurate. The kinematic wave method is a method based on physical variables of watershed and channel and is widely used for rainfall-runoff analysis. By adopting the two-term storage function method by the conversion of the kinematic wave method, parameters can be estimated based on physical variables, which can increase the accuracy of runoff calculation. In this research, the reproducibility of the kinematic wave method by the two-term storage function method was investigated. It is very easy to estimate the parameters because equivalent roughness, which is an important physical variable in watershed runoff, can be easily obtained by using land use and land cover, and the physical variable of channel runoff can be easily obtained from the basic river planning report or topographic map. In addition, this research examined the applicability of the two-term storage function method to runoff simulation of Naechon Stream, a tributary of the Hongcheon River in the Han River basin. As a result, it is considered that more accurate runoff calculation results could be obtained than the existing one-term storage function method. It is expected that the utilization of the storage function method can be increased because the parameters can be easily estimated using physical variables even in unmeasured watersheds and channels.
In this paper, we present the results of the wear analysis of journal bearings on a stripped-down single-cylinder engine during start-up and coast-down by motoring. We calculate journal bearing wear by using a modified specific wear rate considering the fractional film defect coefficient and load-sharing ratio for the asperity portion of a mixed elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) regime coupled with previously presented graphical data of experimental lifetime linear wear in radial journal bearings. Based on the calculated wear depth, we obtain a new oil film thickness for every crank angle. By examination of the oil film thickness, we determine whether the oil film thickness at the wear scar region is in a mixed lubrication regime by comparing dimensionless oil film thickness, h/σ, to 3.0 at every crank angle. We present the lift-off speed and the crank angles involved with the wear calculation for bearings #1 and #2. The dimensionless oil film thickness, h/σ, illustrates whether the lubrication region between the two surfaces is still within the bounds of the mixed lubrication regime after scarring of the surface by wear. In addition, we present in tables the asperity contact pressure, the real minimum film thickness at the wear scar region, the modified specific wear rate, and the wear angle, α, for bearings #1 & #2. To show the real shape of the oil film at wear scar region, we depict the actual oil film thickness in graphs. We also tabulated the ranges of bearing angles related with wear scar. We present the wear volume for bearings #1 and #2 after one turn-on and turn-off of the engine ignition switch for five kinds of equivalent surface roughness. We show that the accumulated wear volume after a single turn-on and turn-off of an ignition switch normally increases with increasing surface roughness, with a few exceptions.
