Fabrication of Spiropyran-functionalized Photochromic Hydrogel Lenses

  • Poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate)-based hydrogels were surface-functionalized with spiropyran (SP) derivatives to obtain photochromic contact lenses. The contact lens reversibly changes from colorless to purple as response to UV light since colorless ring-closed SP state converts to purple ring-opened merocyanine (MC) state under UV light irradiation. The purple contact lens emits red light at 640 nm. Importantly, the presence of SP segments did not significantly affect the equilibrium water content (EWC) of the lens. SP-functionalized hydrogel lenses may find potential applications in developing light-adaptive ophthalmic materials.

  • Gas phase compositions of the hot filament-assisted diamond CVD reaction were analyzed by on-line quadrupole mass analysis(QMA) technique. D2 isotope experiments showed that methance molecules were decomposed into atomic state and then recombined in to acetylene during transport the probe line. Although acetylene or ethylene was supplied instead of methane similar gas compositions were obtained when filament temperature was above 1500$^{\circ}C$ Therefore this system could be assumed near thermal equilibrium state. Filament temperature and reaction pressure variation experiments exhibited the same tendency between acetylene concentration and diamond growth rate and these results implied that acetylene molecule played the role of the reactive species in the diamond CVD reaction.

  • Chua 발진기의 카오스 신호를 선형 상태 피드백 제어 이론을 적용하여 평형점, 1주기, 2주기의 신호로 제어하는 방법을 제안하였다. 제안한 선형 상태 피드백 이득 값을 리아프노프 함수를 이용하여 Chua 오실레이터가 나타내는 모든 카오스 현상을 제어할 수 있도록 파라미터 부호의 조합에 의해 4가지로 분류하였다. 본 논문의 상태 피드백 제어 기법은 시스템의 카오스 상태에서 얻고자 하는 상태(평형점, 주기 신호등)로 효율적으로 제어 가능하고, 매우 간단한 구조로 파라미터의 변화 없이 최소의 입력으로 가능케 하였다.

Control-to-output Transfer Function of the Open-loop Step-up Converter in CCM Operation

  • Based on the average method and the geometrical technique to calculate the average value, the average model of the open-loop step-up converter in CCM operation is established. The DC equilibrium point and corresponding small signal model is derived. The control-to-output transfer function is presented and analyzed. The theoretical analysis and PSIM simulations shows that the control-to-output transfer function includes not only the DC input voltage and the DC duty cycle, but also the two inductors, the two energy-transferring capacitors, the switching frequency and the load. Finally, the hardware circuit is designed, and the circuit experimental results are given to confirm the effectiveness of theoretical derivations and analysis.

  • The objective of this paper is to propose a system by means of which the utilization of radio frequency spectrum may be improved from the state of extreme inefficiency at the present time in Kazakhstan to a state of efficiency and equilibrium in the future. The main solutions to efficiently use radio frequency spectrum in Kazakhstan will be described in this paper. There are 'Spectrum Utilization, Spectrum Sharing and Reuse the Spectrum' in which the radio frequency can be propagated in wide range using smalt amount of spectrum, or broadcast several channels via one spectrum sharing. In order to embed these systems in practice it will be better to make modifications consider Government policy and geographical and social requirements.

Using Largest Lyapunov Exponent to Confirm the Intrinsic Stability of Boiling Water Reactors

  • The aim of this paper is the study of instability state of boiling water reactors with a method based in largest Lyapunov exponents (LLEs). Detecting the presence of chaos in a dynamical system is an important problem that is solved by measuring the LLE. Lyapunov exponents quantify the exponential divergence of initially close state-space trajectories and estimate the amount of chaos in a system. This method was applied to a set of signals from several nuclear power plant (NPP) reactors under commercial operating conditions that experienced instabilities events, apparently each of a different nature. Laguna Verde and Forsmark NPPs with in-phase instabilities, and Cofrentes NPP with out-of-phases instability. This study presents the results of intrinsic instability in the boiling water reactors of three NPPs. In the analyzed cases the limit cycle was not reached, which implies that the point of equilibrium exerts influence and attraction on system evolution.

  • Using ab initio density functional calculations, we investigate the structural and electronic properties of porous schwarzite structures formed by $sp^2$ carbon minimal surfaces with negative Gaussian curvature. We calculate the equilibrium geometries, elastic properties and electronic structure of two systems with cubic unit cells containing 152 and 200 carbon atoms, which are metallic and very rigid. The porous schwarzite structure can be efficiently doped by electron donors as well as accepors, making it a promising candidate for the next generation of alkali ion batteries. Furthermore, the schwarzite structures can be magnetic when doped and thus act as arrays of interconnected quantum spin dots. We also propose that two interpenetrating schwarzite structures be used as a ultimate super-capacitor.

Intrinsic and Thermodynamic Effects on the Structure and Energy of the S$_N$2 Transition State$^*$

  • Two contributions to the activation barrier of the $S_N2$ reaction, intrinsic and thermodynamic, are discussed in connection with the predictive power of various rate-equilibrium relationships. It has been shown that the PES models can only give correct predictions of changes in structure and energy of the transition state if the activation barrier is dictated by the thermodynamic factor. We concluded that the identity and dissociative $S_N2$ reactions are dominated by the intrinsic component while associative $S_N2$ reactions are predominantly of thermodynamic controlled. Thus in the former cases, the PES models fail, whereas in the latter cases predictions based on the intrinsic factor, the quantum mechanical models, fail. Finally in a general case of equal contributions by thermodynamic and intrinsic factors, the $SN_2$ reaction proceeds by a synchronous process with zero net charge on the reaction center, for which predictions of substituent effects will be the same as for the intrinsic control case.

  • 본 연구는 비교사학습의 대표적인 방법 중 하나인 코호넨의 자기조직화 방법을 기반으로 BCI(Brain-Computer Interface)에 적용 가능한 자율적 기계학습방법을 제안한다. 이를 위해 상호작용 함수를 이용한 학습영역조정방법과 자율적 기계학습규칙을 제안하였다. 학습영역조정과 기계학습은 코호넨의 자기조직화 방법을 기반으로 한 상호작용 함수에 의한 측면제어효과를 이용하였다. 승자 뉴런을 결정하고 난 후 학습 규칙에 따라 뉴런의 연결강도를 조정하고 학습 횟수가 증가함에 따라 학습영역이 점차 감소하여 출력층 뉴런 가중치들의 입력을 향한 유동을 완화시켜 네트워크가 평형 상태(equilibrium state)에 도달하여 학습을 마칠 수 있는 자율적 기계학습을 제안하였다.

기계적 합금화법에 의한 비평형 Cu-Ta-Mo계 합금분말의 제조 (Formation of Non-equilibrium Cu-Ta-Mo Alloy Powders by Mechanical Alloying)

  • The solid state reaction by mechanical alloying(MA) generally proceeds by lowering the free energy as the result of a chemical reaction at the interface between the two adjacent layers. However, Lee et $al.^{1-5)}$ reported that a mixture of Cu and Ta, the combination of which is characterized by a positive heat of mixing of +2kJ/mol, could be amorphized by mechanical alloying. This implies that there exists an up-hill process to raise the free energy of a mixture of pure Cu and la to that of an amorphous phase. It is our aim to investigate to what extent the MA is capable of producing a non-equilibrium phase with increasing the heat of mixing. The system chosen was the ternary $Cu_{30}Ta_{ 70-x}Mo_ x$ (x=35, 10). The mechanical alloying was carried out using a Fritsch P-5 planetary mill under Ar gas atmosphere. The MA powders were characterized by the X-ray diffraction with Cu-K $\alpha$ radiation, thermal analysis, electron diffraction and TEM micrographs. In the case of x=35, where pure Cu powders were mixed with equal amount of pure Ta and Mo powders, we revealed the formation of bcc solid solution after 150 h milling but its gradual decomposition by releasing fcc-Cu when milling time exceeded 200 h. However, an amorphous phase was clearly formed when the Mo content was lowered to x=10. It is believed that the amorphization of ternary $Cu_{30}Ta_{60}Mo_{10}$ powders is essentially identical to the solid state amorphization process in binary $Cu_{30}Ta_{70}$ powders.
