Protein Motif Extraction via Feature Interval Selection

  • The purpose of this paper is to present a new algorithm for extracting the consensus pattern, or motif from sequence belonging to the same family. Two methods are considered for feature interval partitioning based on equal probability and equal width interval partitioning. C2H2 zinc finger protein and epidermal growth factor protein sequences are used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm for motif extraction. For two protein families, the equal width interval partitioning method performs better than the equal probability interval partitioning method.

초등학교 3, 4, 5학년 학생들의 확률 이해 실태 (3rd, 4th and 5th Graders' Probability Understanding)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 확률을 학습하지 않은 3, 4, 5학년 학생들의 확률 개념에 대한 이해 수준을 살펴보고, 확률 학습에 대한 가능성을 탐색하는 것이다. 이를 위해 3, 4, 5학년 학생을 대상으로 지필검사를 통한 조사 연구를 실시하였고, 선행연구를 토대로 한 확률 이해 분석의 틀을 분석기준으로 삼았다. 본 연구의 결과 학생들의 확률 개념 평균 이해 수준은 표본공간에서 가장 높게 나타났고 사건의 확률, 공평성, 확률 비교 순이었으며, 특히 표본공간에 대해 가장 높은 수준을 나타냈고 이러한 결과는 3, 4, 5학년의 공통적인 현상이었다. 반면 학생들의 독립성에 대한 이해 수준은 낮은 편이었고 학년 간에 유의한 수준 차이가 없었으며, 조건부 확률에 대한 이해는 가장 낮았다.

Outage Probability of Two-Hop Relay Networks with Related Interference

  • We consider a specific interference-limited wireless relay system that comprises several cooperation units (CUs) which are defined as a source and destination node pair with an associated relay node. In the wireless relay system, all source nodes simultaneously transmit their own signals and the relay node in each CU then forwards the received signal to the destination node, causing co-channel interference at both the relay node and the destination node in each CU. The co-channel interference at the relay node is closely related to that at the destination node in each CU. We first derive the end-to-end outage probability in a CU over Rayleigh slow-fading channels with interference for the decode-and-forward (DF) relaying strategy. Then, on the assumption that each CU is allocated with equal power we design an optimal power allocation between the source node and the relay node in each CU to minimize the outage probability of the investigated CU. At last, in the case that each CU is not allocated with equal power and the sum of their power is constrained, we present an optimal power allocation between CUs to minimize the sum of the outage probability of all CUs. The analytical results are verified by simulations.

  • 이 논문에서는 여러 종류의 고객을 서비스하는 멀티클래스 손실시스템의 상태를 마코프 확률과정으로 표현하고 분석하는 방법을 연구한다. 특히 손실시스템에 대한 유니트 개념을 설명하고 등확률 유니트 배정을 운용하는 경우를 중점적으로 다룬다. 상태방정식을 이용하여 극한확률을 구하는 방법을 연구하고 손실확률 등의 성능척도를 산출한다. 간단한 시스템에 대한 분석을 통하여 일반적인 시스템의 특성을 알아본다.

Dual Diversity over Correlated Ricean Fading Channels

  • The performance of dual diversity receivers operating over correlated Ricean fading channels is analyzed. Using a previously derived rapidly converging infinite series representation for the bivariate Ricean probability density function, analytical expressions for the statistics of dual-branch selection combining, maximal-ratio combining, and equal-gain combining output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) are derived. These expressions are employed to obtain novel analytical formulae for the average output SNR, amount of fading, average bit error probability, and outage probability. The proposed mathematical analysis is used to study various novel performance evaluation results with parameters of interest the fading severity, average input SNRs, and the correlation coefficient. The series convergence rate is also examined verifying the fast convergence of the analytical expressions. The accuracy of most of the theoretical performance evaluation results are validated by means of computer simulations.

A New Constant Modulus Algorithm based on Maximum Probability Criterion

  • In this paper, as an alternative to constant modulus algorithm based on MSE, maximization of the probability that equalizer output power is equal to the constant modulus of the transmitted symbols is introduced. The proposed algorithm using the gradient ascent method to the maximum probability criterion has superior convergence and steady-state MSE performance, and the error samples of the proposed algorithm exhibit more concentrated density functions in blind equalization environments. Simulation results indicate that the proposed training has a potential advantage versus MSE training for the constant modulus approach to blind equalization.

  • The Study investigated the contexts and probable difficulties of the teaching of the number of cases and the introduction of probability concept. In our mathematical curriculum, the contexts of the teaching of probability can be classified into five cases. We suggested some intuitive diagrams to be likely to decrease the cognitive complications caused by the equal possibilities of the unit event in the cases, respectively.

Local Influence Assessment of the Misclassification Probability in Multiple Discriminant Analysis

  • The influence of observations on the misclassification probability in multiple discriminant analysis under the equal covariance assumption is investigated by the local influence method. Under an appropriate perturbation we can get information about influential observations and outliers by studying the curvatures and the associated direction vectors of the perturbation-formed surface of the misclassification probability. We show that the influence function method gives essentially the same information as the direction vector of the maximum slope. An illustrative example is given for the effectiveness of the local influence method.

DEVELOPING NONINFORMATIVE PRIORS FOR THE FAMILIAL DATA

  • This paper considers development of noninformative priors for the familial data when the families have equal number of offspring. Several noninformative priors including the widely used Jeffreys' prior as well as the different reference priors are derived. Also, a simultaneously-marginally-probability-matching prior is considered and probability matching priors are derived when the parameter of interest is inter- or intra-class correlation coefficient. The simulation study implemented by Gibbs sampler shows that two-group reference prior is slightly edge over the others in terms of coverage probability.

  • 주령구는 안압지에서 출토된 14면체 주사위인데, 6개의 정사각면과 8개의 육각면으로 구성되어 있으며, 14개의 면에는 각각 다른 문구가 새겨져 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 14면체 주사위를 정밀하게 가공한 뒤, 실험을 통해 육각면이 나올 확률을 조사하였다. 다음으로 다물체동역학 모델링을 통하여 육각면이 나올 확률을 알아본 뒤, 마찰계수에 따라 확률이 달라지는 분석하였다.
