  • In this study, oxidized graphene nanoplatelet(GO) was prepared by oxidizing graphene nanoplatelet(GNP) with nitric acid in order to solve the problem of dispersion of GNP, one of nano materials. GNP/Epoxy and GO/Epoxy paint were prepared by mixing GNP, GO with 0.1, 0.3, 0.5 and 1.0 wt.% in epoxy paint and the mechanical properties were evaluated. As a result, GNP/Epoxy and GO/Epoxy paints showed better mechanical properties than Neat Epoxy which did not incorporate GNP, GO. Especially, when 0.3 wt.% of GO was incorporated into epoxy resin, it showed higher tensile strength than Neat Epoxy. It was confirmed that acid treatment of GNP was effective in improving the mechanical properties of epoxy paint. However, graphene material was found that it was not effective in improving the bond performance of the epoxy paint.

  • In this study, oxidized graphene nanoplatelet(GO) was prepared by oxidizing graphene nanoplatelet(GNP) with nitric acid in order to solve the problem of dispersion of GNP, one of nano materials. The surface chemical composition of the prepared GO was analyzed by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR) before incorporation into the epoxy paint, and the dispersibility in the solvent was confirmed. Meanwhile, GNP/Epoxy and GO/Epoxy paint were prepared by mixing GNP, GO with 0.1, 0.3, 0.5 and 1.0wt.% in epoxy paint and the mechanical properties were evaluated. As a result, GNP/Epoxy and GO/Epoxy paints showed better mechanical properties than Neat Epoxy which did not incorporate GNP, GO. • Airless spray which is widely used for painting to ship blocks and hull sides is the coating method for attaching atomized paint material to the substrate using spray tip nozzle with compressed air. When the paint material which has high solid contents such as epoxy primer paint is atomized by passing through spray tip nozzle with high pressure, the nozzle composed of tungsten carbide(WC) undergoes the erosive wear, leading to widening of nozzle hole. The deformation of nozzle hole induces improper spray pattern and coating failures such as finger pattern and sagging because the conditions of spray pump pressure and paint flow rate for developing full spray pattern are changed. In this study, an appropriate replacement cycle of spray tip was predicted by measuring the erosive wear tendency as increasing the spraying time of epoxy primer paint.

  • We prepared paint-type and sheet-type EM wave absorbers with Mn-Zn Ferrite, Ni-Zn Ferrite, Ba Ferrite, Sr Ferrite, and Sendust against ghosts of a mater in ships. To prepare the absorbers, enamel paint and epoxy paint were used as binders. The prepared EM wave absorber's absorption properties were investigated. The prepared EM wave absorbers have 6 dB over in 2 GHz ${\sim}$ 4 GHz. We compared properties of wave absorption between paint-type and spray-type

  • The objectives of this paper were to measure the bond strengths of reinforced concrete in which the steel rods were coated with five different kinds of anticorrosion paints, and to compare their prevention effects in salt water. The paints used in the study were epoxy resin I . II . III, Z.R. P., and silicone resin, which were applied at rates recommended by the manufacturers. The bond strengths were measured on the 7-, 14-, and 28-th days after molding. Corrosion conditions of coated steel plate under fresh water, seawater, 10 % salt water, and 20% salt water, were inspected every month during four months test peoriods, respectively. The results obtained from tests are summarized as follows: 1. Paint-coating may reduce the bond strengths of reinforced concrete. Silicone resin paint showed some 20% reduction in the strength compared to those without the paint. However, the other paints seemed not to significantly affect the strength. 2. Picture analyses showed that epoxy resin I and II significantly prevented corrosion steel plates in seawater. Epoxy resin I and silicone resin coating did not do a good job in corrosion prevention. Z.R. P. paint was found to be moderate as preventive coating paint. 3. Varying soluble salt contents had little effects on the corrosion prevention of tested paints. 4. Epoxy resin I and II were found to be appropriate as a coating material to prevent the corrosion of steel rods in seawater. Z.R.P. may also be used for the purpose.

  • In the present work, the breakup mechanism of highly viscous epoxy paints discharged from a fan spray nozzle was examined experimentally. The paints tested were non-Newtonian fluids, composed of epoxy resin, solid particles and other additives. The paint spray discharged from the nozzle was visualized and recorded using a digital camera with back illumination. Due to presence of the solid particles, perforation of liquid sheet was observed in most cases, even at low-Reynolds number conditions (Re < 15,000) where the aerodynamic-wave breakup mode is used to be dominant for pure liquids. However, with the increase of the particle concentration, the sheet became longer and the thickness at breakup became thinner to some extent. This is because, with higher concentration of solid particles, the stabilizing effect by the viscosity increase predominates over the destabilizing effect by perforation.

  • This study was conducted in order to examine the effect of burn damage and the resultant anti-corrosion performance. The breakdown and defect of the paint film caused by burn damage are considered to affect not only the macroscopic appearance but also the adhesive force and the anti-corrosion performance of the paint film. The material of the paint film was epoxy paint that is used most widely for heavy-duty coating, and in order to induce burn damage, heat treatment with a torch was applied to the other side of the paint film. Surface and chemical structure changes according to aging were analyzed using FE-SEM and infrared absorption spectroscopy, and variation in the anti-corrosion performance was analyzed through the AC impedance test.

  • Main compositions of powder paint based on thermoset type epoxy resin consist of epoxy resin for powder coating, curing agent, filler and pigment. The curing system used in this study was based on diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A (DGEBA) and dicyan diamide (DICY). The curing behavior and rheological properties of powder coating material were investigated using DSC and rheometer, respectively. And the adhesion strength between steel and powder coating material was measured using lap shear geometry. The optimum formulation of epoxy powder paint obtained from this study was base resin of 100 phr, DICY of 6 phr, $CaCO_3$ of 20 phr, and $TiO_2$ of 10 phr.

  • An electrochemical evaluation on the corrosion resistance for heavy anticorrosive paint(DFT:25um) was carried out for 5 kinds of heavy anticorrosive paints such as high solid epoxy(HE), solvent free epoxy(SE). tar epoxy(TE), phenol epoxy(PE). and ceramic epoxy(CE). Corrosion current densities obtained by Tafel extrapolation method from anodic and cathodic polarization curves didn't correspond with the values obtained by AC impedance measurement, however, the values of polarization resistance obtained from the cyclic voltammogram showed a good tendency corresponding well with the values of AC impedance measurement. Futhermore there was a good correlation against the corrosion resistance evaluation between passivity current density of the anodic polarization curve and diffusion limiting current density of the cathodic polarization curve. And corrosion resistance increased with corrosion potential shifting to noble direction. From the results discussed above. HE and CE had a relatively good corrosion resistance than other heavy anticorrosive paints.
