We live in an age of information and an era of rising environmental awareness. As a result, efficient and judicious use of environmental information has become a prerequisite to planning and management of environmental affairs in contemporary societies. So, we have embarked on a study of Environmental Information System(EIS). In the first article, we discussed the status analysis of EIS in Korea, USA, and Japan. This study as the second project has three major components. First, it classifies items and sources of 22 EIA factors. Second, it explains building of environmental information comprising geographic and attribute data of 17 factors. Finally, the study presents applications of EIS as an alternative assessment of suitability analysis. Based on these analysis, the study makes some recommendations and conclusions.
The purposes of this study were to deter-mine the dimensions of the housewives' cloth-ing behavior for the environmental protection and the identify the effective variables. The results of this study was intended to provide fundamental material for the establishment of clothing behavior guidelines for the environmental protection. This study was conducted by reference analysis and empirical study. To develop theoreti-cal framework study. To develop theoreti-cal framework of dimensions of environmental protection behavior, references concerned were analyzed. The results of reference analy-sis showed that the dimensions of environmental protection bahavior were resource and energy saving, sold waste reduction, resource reuse or recycle, and green product purchase. The dimensions of housewives' clothing behavior for environmental protection were identified by use of self-administered questionnaires. The results of enpirical study showed that the dimensions of clothing behavior for the environmental protection wre clothing resource reuse or recycle, clothing management resource saving, clothing consumption resource saving, green product purchase, and clothing management resource saving was the highest and that of resource reuse or recycle was the lowest. Environmental consciousness, taking environmental education or not, residing place, clothing seperate-collectiong at residing place were effective variables on clothing behavior for environmental protection.
This study was initiated to understand what students know, how they feel, and how they act in the perspectives of environmental literacy. This study takes it a very serious problem that there has been no data about Korean students’status of environmental literacy so far. Based on the correct diagnosis of Korean students’ environmental literacy, environmental education in Korea, including national curriculum, teaching materials and strategy, would take the right way. This study accepts Simmon (1995)’s framework of environmental literacy, consisting of 5 areas, environmental knowledge, skills, affect, and behavior, which is consistent with general goals of environmental education. This study analyzed the relationship between areas in environmental literacy and factors contributing to improving students’ environmental literacy. This study also checked which factors, including age, gender, parents’ schooling, environmental education in schools, and students’ science-related attributes, contributed to improving students’ environmental literacy. The results of this study will help science educators keep in mind how important it is to teach science from the perspectives of environmental literacy.

This study investigates the effect of environmental club activities of the creative experiential learning activities on the improvement of students' Environmental Literacy and Pro-environmental Behavior. For that purpose, This study divided 24 students at Jinhae U Elementary School into test groups of 12 students and Control groups of 12 students. Test groups participated in the 'GomGomi' environmental Club for sixteen times from March 2011 to December 2011. Conclusions of this study include; First, we found that the environmental club activities is effective to improve the students' environmental Literacy overall. Specifically, the Environmental Club Activities was effective in the sub-catagories of environmental Literacy such as 'rights of nature' and 'eco-crisis'. However, there was no significant change in the sub-category of 'human exemptionalism' Second, we found that the environmental club activities is effective to improve students' pro-environmental behavior overall. Specifically, the environmental club activities was effective in the sub-domains of Pro-environmental Behavior such as 'cognitive domain' and 'affective domain'. However, there was no significant change in the sub-domains of 'behavioral domain'. Summary, the environmental club activities was shown to be effective for improving their environmental literacy and pro-environmental behavior; This study implies that the environmental club activities of the creative experiential learning activities would be a effective tool to help students to improve their environmental literacy and pro-environmental behavior.
The purpose of this study was to examine the direction and the actual state of environmental behavior of domestic enterprises. This study focused on strategies of environmental management, manufacturing process, product distribution, and waste collection of a enterprise with regard to environmental behavior. the survey was conducted on 30 enterprises, using open type questionnaires. Results of the study were as follows : 1. Enterprises recognized the importance of environmental behavior. their environmental strategies were great, but the actual behavior was poor. 2. In the manufacturing process, environmental behavior was not practised well. 3. In the product distribution and the waste collection phase, they made little efforts for the environmental preservation.
This study was to find out the effects of out-of-class environmental experience learning on elementary students' environmental literacy. For this study, we developed and applied environmental education program utilizing out-of-class facilities and ecological park for the 5th-grade students. The subjects of this study were the 5th grade students of an elementary school located in Si-hung city. The study was carried out for two groups, an experiment group of 29 students and control group of 29 students. The education program using out-of-class environmental experience learning was provided to the experiment group while lecture-oriented education program was provided to the control group. The questionnaire used in this study to assess the environmental literacy of the study objects consists of 41 questions under 4 domains (knowledge, emotion, skill, behavior). After observing and analyzing the effects of out-of-class environmental experience learning on students' environmental literacy, we found that the program using the out-of-class environmental experience learning posed greater impacts than lecture-oriented program. By domains, environmental literacy in 3 domains illustrated positive improvement. In particular, skill domain illustrated much more improvement in environmental literacy. But, domain of behavior didn't illustrated improvement in environmental literacy. The result of this study signified that the out-of-class environmental experience learning has positive and effective impact on the environmental literacy. And out-of-class environmental experience learning is more suitable to improve the skill domain of the environmental literacy than lecture-oriented learning. But, it is couldn't improve the domain of behavior. Therefore, in order to improve behavior domain, the program must apply with effective evaluation and home training.
Land resources should be managed not only for human utilizations but also for environmental preservation. Based on that, environmental capacity should be estimated in both environmental and developmental ways. This study was performed for developing an estimation model for relative environmental capacity, considering both Development Tolerance Index(DTI), which shows environmental and ecological conservation value and is based on national environmental assessment indicators of the Korea Ministry of Environment, and Development Attractiveness Index(DAI), which shows topographical characteristics and geographical accessibility. The relative environmental capacity in this study can be helpful to coping with the conflict in planning and managing the use of land resources. The relative environmental capacity in this study, however, did not include either environmental or ecological sensitivity of land resources. This limitation should be solved through further research.
This study was to develop environmental education activities using advertisement as well as investigate the effect of environmental education using advertisements on children's eco-friendly attitudes and environmental preservation knowledge. The effect of the environmental education activity using advisements was examined based on 24 children aged five attending a daycare center located in Incheon metropolitan city (12 in the experimental group and 12 in the control group). This study was executed 12 times (twice a week) in both the experimental group and comparative group as the environmental education using advertisements was developed and executed in the experimental group as environmental education according to the life theme's in the Nuri curriculum of the comparative group. The instruments used in this study were the children's eco-friendly attitude scale (two factors, 18 items) and environmental preservation knowledge scale (four factors, 16 items). Children's eco-friendly attitude and environmental preservation knowledge were assessed by pre-tests and post-tests using the SPSS ver. 18.0 program. Results indicated that after 6 weeks application, the experimental group exhibited higher scores than the control group in the children's eco-friendly attitude as well as environmental preservation knowledge. This study showed that environmental education activities using advertisement had a positive effect on children's eco-friendly attitudes and environmental preservation knowledge.
In the sustainable waste management, the necessity of environmental education which improves acquisition of the knowledge, attitudes and values for the environment is being emphasized to help students make environmentally desirable decision and promote responsible environmental behavior. However, the environmental education in high schools, as a whole, would be susceptible to many problems caused by tile educational administration focusing only on the college entrance examination. Therefore, this study modifies and applies a program using four teaching/learning methods (Investigation study, Internet-based learning, Field work, Issue analysis study) which deals with the sustainable waste management as the learning subject for the environmental education, and tries to find its effects on the students' environmental sensitivity and environmental conservation behavior in high schools. The main results of this study are summarized as fellows. First, the waste management program had little influence on the environmental sensitivity of experimental groups, while it had positive effect on their improvement of the environmental conservation behavior. Second, there were little meaningful effect on general environmental conservation behavior, but there were some significant results to environmental conservation behavior related to the sustainable waste management. In addition, positive results were found in ecomanagement and consumerism, whereas there were no meaningful results about in persuasion and legal action, which were sub-domains of the waste management program. Among the waste management programs, the school waste investigation study had the most positive effect on the students' recognition and solution of environmental problems as well as improvement of environmental conservation behavior. The easiest one of the four teaching/learning methods was the Internet-based learning, while the most difficult one of them was the issue analysis study. Consequently, in order to achieve the goals of the environmental education in the academic field, there has to be selected the most suitable one of the teaching/learning methods and to be applied to the class, according to the detailed objectives and loaming contents for the environmental education.
Since 1970', the international community has displayed a heightened consciousness concerning the Earth environment and Environmental Education has became to be as survival strategies for the environment and human life. For developing the model of instructional procedure for educating environmental behaviors in environmental education, this study analyzed the objectives, characteristics, contents, instructional methods and instructional procedures of case studies that were awarded the first prize of the Contest of the Case Study in Korea that were had charged by KFTA. The main results of this study were as follows :(1) the more objectives for environmental education were focused on “formulating values and attitudes for the environment”, some objectives for “skills” need to investigate or solve the environmental issues were found, and some objectives for “environmental behaviors”. (2) the more contents of environmental education were focused on “environmental pollutions” (3) the more instructional methods for environmental education used for “investigating or experiment” to solve the environmental issues or problems, some methods for “taking actions for the environment”. (4) the most of case studies were used the model of environmental instruction that were developed by KEDI in 1988. Conclusionally, This study suggested that you have to emphasis on level of responsible citizen behaviors to resolve the environmental issues or problems in the environmental instructional procedures.
