For construction projects, it is required to estimate the Environmental Management Cost(EMC) for pollution prevention, using the calculation standards prescribed in the Construction Technology Management Law(CTML). However, the EMC standards are difficult to utilize without definite site information. Therefore, it is needed a new calculation method reflecting project site information. According to the definition of EMC in the CTML, this study identifies the EMC items and classifies them into the pollution types such as air, water, noise, waste and others. With this EMC classification, the stud:』 analyzes using the SPSS the EMC for the 78 new multi-housing projects, which were executed during the past three years, 2000-2002. And then an EMC estimating matrix is developed with simple information such as site location and size of area from historical data. The proposed matrix can be effectively used to check and control budgeting and estimating the EMC of the multi-housing projects. In addition, the proposed EMC matrix are validated through a case study.
Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) is a new technology capable to flow without segregation or any addition of energy which leads to efficient construction and cost savings. In this study, the effect of replacing the Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) with Fly Ash (FA) on the strength, durability of the concrete was investigated experimentally, and carbon footprint and cost were also assessed. Four different replacement FA ratios (0%, 20%, 40% and 60%) were used to create four SCC mixes. Standard test methods were used to determine the workability, strength, and durability of the SCC mixes including resist chloride ion penetration, water permeability, water absorption, and initial surface absorption. The axial cube compressive strength tests were performed on the SCC mixes at 1, 7, 14, 28 and 35 days. Replacing the OPC with FA had a significant positive impact on chloride iron penetration resistance and water absorption but had a considerable negative impact on the compressive strength. The SCC mix with 60% FA had 36.7% and 15.8% enhancement in the resistance to chloride ion penetration and water absorption, respectively. Evaluation of the carbon footprint and the cost of each SCC mixes showed the $CO_2$ emissions mixes 1, 2, 3 and 4 were significantly reduced by increasing the FA content from 0% to 60%. Compared with the control mix, the cost of all mixes increased when the FA content increased, but no significant differences were seen between the estimated costs of all four mixes.

This study was conducted in Ningxia Hui autonomous region, located at southern part of Mu Us sand land in China. To investigate relationships between windbreak effect and installation cost of sand barriers, plastic net is utilized by using four kind of heights (0.2, 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5m) and four kind of porosities (20, 30, 50 and 70%). These heights and porosities are measured for estimating distances for effective windbreak. It is shown that porosity and the distance have a positive relationship at same heights and porosity on ground indicates a constant figure when height reaches a certain level, regardless of the porosity. This implies that there is a difference of level of windbreak with different porosities; however, distance of windbreak effect is same at the same height of sand barrier. As a result of comparison between porosity of sand barrier on the ground and installation cost in each sand barrier with various heights and porosities (16 combinations), 0.4m and 0.5m height sand barriers describe highest economical efficiency. Within two variables, we concluded that height has a higher impact on windbreak effect than porosity.
The purpose of this study was to apply the activity-based costing (ABC) model to restaurant menu costing. The overhead cast of six entr${\acute{e}}$es in XYZ restaurant was calculated for all levels of activity. When comparing activity-based costing with traditional costing applied to BBQ pork rib and an assorted seafood platter, the total difference of costs between two items was 2,191 won in activity-based costing and 600 won in traditional costing. The average food cast percentage of the six entr${\acute{e}}$es was 27% using traditional costing, while the average activity-based cost percentage was 40%. Therefore, there was a 13% difference between the actual margin volume and the expected margin volume. The application of activity-based costing to the restaurant industry would be a milestone from a cost point of view as well as from a process point of view. In particular, the limitation that traditional costing only accounts for food costs could be overcome b considering the overhead cost as an important part of the cast structure. Furthermore, activity-based costing would not only help to reduce the costs associated with the process of analyzing the activities but it would also provide more accurate cost information for menu pricing.
Sewage has been almost treated by secondary treatment process. Secondary-treated effluent of sewage treatment plant caused the pollution of nearby beach. Nitrogen(N) and Phosphorus(P) in effluent water have caused many problems on estuary, such as red tide, eutrophication and aquatic toxicity. Therefore, the effective nitrogen and phosphorus removal from sewage treatment plants is necessary to prevent those pollution problems. However, little sewage treatment plant in Korea is effectively being operated for the removal of the nutrients. This study is analyzed for the effectiveness of cost when tertiary treatment process and Ocean Outfall are applied for the water quality of Suyong Bay After secondary treatment process, the effluent was discharged from the seabed in the depth of 32m of 4000m offshore. Pollutant concentration is decreased as much as the 180 times after the result of initial dilution, so that environmental protection requirement of Suyong Bay can satisfied. This Ocean Outfall process can save the 2.6~3.5 times as much as the cost of construction and operation for tertiary treatment process running over a 20 year.
Since some decades ago, there has been a concern for resource depletion and environmental pollution associated with building properties. In addressing such impact of the built environment, there is a recognition of the existence of alternative building materials, fuels for energy supply as well as technologies for waste handling and disposal. Nevertheless, for long time, the choice between such alternatives was dictated by factors such as differences in prices and aesthetic values. A new important dimension in discriminating between different options is the environmental dimension. This aspect is important since buildings are one of the spatially big new additions to the natural environment that consume a lot of materials and energy during their long lifetime. Thus, with the environmental dimension kept in mind, a existing cost estimation needs to be changed. A new cost assessment method, Life Cycle Cost, should calculate overall costs with dimensional factors: investment and utility costs as well as maintenance costs over the lifetime of the building. Aiming to give an overview of the present status of Building Life Cycle Assessment(LCA) tools as a basis for further research and development including economic performance, this paper describes and compares 3 different tools for Life Cycle Assessment(LCA) and economic analysis of the green buildings. This paper compared these approaches based on various aspects. These include economic analysis method, evaluation duration, data of results(index). Use of the comparison analysis is to produce a better picture and indicate profits and shortcomings for the tools as a group; thus providing important direction improvement of LCA tool as well as further research and development of this group of tools.
This study estimates the social cost of the traffic congestion of the Express highway from Seoul to Pusan during the New Year holiday in 1999. Considering inelastic demand and the hyper congestion, we show the congestion cost can be estimated as externalities caused by traffics which exceed the road capacity. Due to the congestion, it is estimated that it took about 12.40 hours more from Seoul to Pusan. The congestion is also estimated to have caused fuel cost of 0.6 billion won. time cost of 43.6 billion won and environmental cost of 0.5 billion won. The total cost reached up to 44.8 billion won.

In recent days, the study of urban regeneration has been conducting with purposeful and sincere intent starting out with the residential environment improvement works. Within the range of urban regeneration, the low-cost housing technology means development of totally-integrated housing technology that may be applied to the regeneration project, especially for the rundown areas where infrastructure facilities in the urban zone have been degraded and obsoleted. In line with this, among many and varied methods in order for realization of the low-cost housing as a part of urban regeneration project, this study should like to propose an improvement methods of the key technologies in relation to the construction works by type of work with which construction costs (directing cost) would be reduced. And, in order to elicit the method for element technology that has been developed and improved in the most optimal manner centering on the selected construction work by the type of work, the researcher conducted comparative review of summary of element technologies related to the construction works concerned, characteristics, and construction method thereof. In particular, the researcher investigated the expenses (construction cost and labor cost), constructions (contractibility and productivity), safety, quality of works, and the technical status in environmental aspects, and the researcher also conducted analyses and evaluations thereof.
The master plan for the Four Rivers Restoration Project (June 2009) was devised, the procedure of pre-environmental review (June 2009) and environmental impact assessment (Nov. 2009), and post-environmental impact survey were implemented, and 4 times audits also inspected. and finally the Ministry of Environment's Four Rivers Investigation and Evaluation Planning Committee proposed the dismantling or partial dismantling of the five weirs of the Geum River and Yeongsan River. But controversies and conflicts are still ongoing. Therefore, this study intend to reestablish the management plan for the four major rivers by reviewing and analyzing the process so far. The results are as follows. First, a cost-benefit analysis should be performed by comparing the water quality impact of weir operation and weir opening. Therefore, it is inevitably difficult to conduct cost-benefit analysis. Second, according to the results of cost-benefit analysis on the dismantling of the Geum River and the Yeongsan River, the dismantling of the weir and the regular sluice gate opening was decided. However, there is a problem in the validity of the decision to dismantle the weir because the cost-benefit analysis for maintaining the weir is not carried out. Third, looking at the change in water quality of 16 weirs before and after the Four Major Rivers Restoration Project, COD and Chl-a were generally deteriorated, and BOD, SS, T-N, and T-P improved. However, in the cost-benefit analysis related to water quality at the time of weir dismantling, only COD items were targeted. Therefore, the cost of BOD, SS, T-N, and T-P items improved after the project were not reflected in the cost-benefit analysis of dismantling weirs, so the water quality benefits were exaggerated. Fourth, in the case of Gongju weir and Juksan weir, most of them are movable weirs, so opening the weir alone can have the same effect as dismantling when the water quality deteriorates. Since the same effect can be expected, there is little need to dismantle the weirs. Fifth, in order to respond to frequent droughts and floods, it is desirable to secure the agricultural water supply capacity to the drought areas upstream of the four majorrivers by constructing a waterway connected to the weir. At present it is necessary to keep weirs rather than dismantling them.

As populations inhabiting in natural ecosystem are fragmented by artificial barriers and habitats are destructed by development, extinction possibility of species is getting higher. It is necessary to design and to manage conservation areas and corridors considering animals' movement and migration for sustainable species diversity in present circumstances. 'Least-cost modeling' is one commonly employed approach in which dispersal costs are assigned to distinct habitat types and the last-costly dispersal paths among habitat patches are calculated using a geographical information system (GIS). This study aims to design ecological corridor using least-cost path method and to apply it to a regional ecological network considering movability of medium-large size mammals. This study was carried out over the metropolitan area, which has been deforested by rapid urbanization. Nevertheless there is connected with Gangwon province, Baekdudaegan mountain range and DMZ, considered where many forest species can migrate to this region. This study employs such an approach to develop least-cost path models for medium-large size mammals, have inhabited for this entire region. Considering those species, two forest areas as a source of species supply and forest areas more than 1,000ha are selected as focal forest areas. Movement and migration paths from species supply sources to focal forest areas are calculated by applying landscape permeability theory using land cover map, road density map and land slope map. Results showed least-cost paths from species supply sources to focal forest areas on two species. Wildcat and roe deer are different in some least-cost paths caused by their landscape permeability but paths show generally same specifics. The result of considering regional distribution of expected movement and migration paths to regional ecological network, low altitude mountains of western metropolitan area are evaluated important area for species connectivity. In national or regional levels ecological connectivity is essential to promote species diversity and to preserve integrated ecosystem. This study concludes that developing least-cost models from similar empirical data could significantly improve the utility of these tools.
