The enzyme expressed from strain L-49 was 2.01 times higher than that of original strain. Strain L-49 can grow on culture plate with $50{\mu}g/mL$ ampicillin. The synthesis of $\alpha$-amylase was greatly suppressed when strain L-49 was grown on monosaccharide such as glucose and polysaccharide at the same time cell concentration was low. Amylase production was enhanced when the bacterium was grown on starch and dextrin. Among different nitrogen sources tried, yeast extract was found to be the best followed by panpeptone, peptone, meat extract, bean meal, and corn steep liquor. The average rate of enzyme production was enhanced for 3~4 times in fermentation time from 24h to 44h. The sugar uptake rate has also increased. Low oxygen supply rate enhanced the rate of strain propagation but depressed the enzyme production. Hence it is benefit to obtain high enzyme activity that agitation speed maintained not lower than 400r/min and aeration rate maintained greater than 1:1vvm.
Weather forecasting is one of the key elements to improve health through the prevention and mitigation of health problems. Health forecasting is a potential resource creating enormous added value as it is effectively used for people. The purpose of this study is to estimate 'Willingness to Pay' for health forecasting. This survey was carried out to derive willingness to pay from 400 people who lived in Busan and Kyungnam Province and over 30 years of age during the period of July 1-31, 2009. The results showed that a 47.50% of people had intention to willingness to pay for health forecasting, and the pay was 7,184.21 won per year. Willing to pay goes higher depending on 'tax burden as to benefit of weather forecasting', 'importance of the weather forecasting in the aspect of health', 'satisfaction to the weather forecasting', and 'frequency of health weather index check'. This study followed the suggestion of the Korea Meteorological Administration generally and the values derived through surveys could be reliable. It can be concluded that a number of citizens who are willing to pay for health forecasting are high enough to meet the costs needed to provide health forecasting.

This study aimed to develop an agroforestry technology through the participation of local people. The study was conducted in the Makiling Forest Reserve (MFR) of the University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB). Diagnosis and Design (D&D) methodology was employed to plan and implement effective research and development projects. Diagnostic interview and direct field observation were conducted to identify the significance of the land-use system and to understand how the system works. As a result of the diagnostic interview and direct field observation in San Vicente, old coconut-based land-use system is shifting to mahogany-based agroforestry system. One of the reasons is due to the very complicated socio-economic and silvicultural factors including lower price of coconut farm products, industry development, lack of labor force, and pest and diseases. Change in land use brought about by the shifting to mahogany-based farming system is slow. Also, mahogany trees are observed to be not well-maintained. However, mahogany based land use system gives farmers' a bigger income as well as environmental benefit. Farmer's cooperation and local forestry policy for CDM were proposed to encourage people's self-restoration effort.

As the large Coolant amount used of a machine holds mass serious trouble recently, an environment pollution is increased, and a machine is conquering large specific gravity in an empty cost plane. It is the stage that must reexamine the parts washing that processing is later with this current way or a problem of a liquid waste treatment back. The environmental problems by using coolant demanded the new cooling methods. As one of them, the studies on the grinding with compressed cold air and oil mist have been done. The cooling method using compressed cold air was effective through going down the temperature of compressed air supplied below -$25^{\circ}C$ and increasing the amount of compressed cold air, but had not enough cooling effect due to the low performance of lubrication. Therefore, the cooling methods using oil mist newly were suggested. This method can satisfy both cooling effect and lubrication with only small amount of coolant, also have the benefit in the point of decreasing the environmental pollution. This paper focused on analyzing the grinding characteristics of the cooling method using oil mist. The grinding test according to compressed cold air and oil mist supply direction were done.
Natural gypsum has been used as a soil amendment in the United States. However, flue gas desulfurization (FGD)-gypsum has not traditionally been used for agricultural purpose although it has potential benefit as a soil amendment. To expand use of FGD-gypsum for agricultural purpose, the effect of FGD-gypsum on soil chemical properties was investigated in the field scales. Application rates for this study were 0 (control), 1.1, and 2.2 Mg ha-1 of FGD-gypsum. After two year application, the soil samples were taken to 110 cm depth and sub-sampled at 10 cm intervals. The heavy metal contents in FGD-gypsum were lower than ceiling levels allowed by regulations for land-applied biosolids. Soil pH was not largely affected by FGD-gypsum application. Although degree of calcium (Ca) saturation in surface horizons increases only slightly with respect to the control, there is a clear decrease in exchangeable aluminum (Al). FGD-gypsum clearly increases the soil electrical conductivity (EC) with increasing application rate. Water-soluble Ca and sulfate is increased with FGD-gypsum application and these ions moved to a depth of at least 80 cm after only 2 years. We conclude that surface application of FGD-gypsum can mitigate toxicity of Al and deficiency of Ca in subsoil of acid soil.
This article chronicles key shifts in intellectual property regimes in the twentieth century as they related to the commercialization of academic research. The institutionalization and growth of scientific research in the research university in the twentieth century and the increasing awareness of its potential to promote technology innovation and economic growth posited an important question of the ownership of knowledge created in the academic setting, where knowledge was traditionally regarded as a common property among academic researchers. This paper shows the ownership of academic knowledge emerged as a key public policy and legal issue in the latter half of the twentieth century for academic researchers and government officials who pursue the commercialization of academic knowledge for private gain and public benefit. The resulting institutionalization of patent management in the research university and shifts in federal patent policy in turn opened a new legal avenue for the establishment of the private ownership of academic knowledge and the expansion of intellectual property rights in academia, especially in the area of biological and biomedical research. Reflecting upon historical shifts in intellectual property regimes in the twentieth century, this paper suggests recent controversies regarding ownership of biological knowledge and profit sharing in developing counties are linked to critical issues pertinent to the welfare of indigenous population, utilization of new natural resources, and sustainable development for humanity.
This study was carried out to improve utilization of substitute fly-ash in bedding material of animal waste treatments. The amount used of fly-ash used in a pigpen or beef stall was 50% lower than that of existing bedding material of animal waste treatments. From the results, substitution effect of fly-ash put over the floor of the stable became much better. Effects of processed fly ash as a spread straw decreased ammonia(NH3) and Hydrogensulfide (H2S) gas at beef stall, but there was no benefit of replacement terms. Effect of processed fly ash as a spread straw increased 4∼5 times replacement terms more than control NH3 and H2S gas was decreased. A lot of maggots and porasites were grown at sawdust pig farm, but fly ash inhibited to grow maggots and paraeters. In conclusion, as substituting fly-ash for 5% sawdust(DM basis) in making animal waste into a compost with fly ash, we can reduce the sawdust purchasing costs and produce the high quality of a compost, especially a pollutant as NH3 and H2S gas, etc. from the process of biodegradation, and as substituting fly-ash(1,540 won per ton ; can be extended the replacement period of spreading straw approximatively 4∼5 times) for sawdusts(111,000 won per ton) will increase a real income in livestock house.
Most decision makers in the electricity industry plan their electric power expansion program by considering only a least cost operation, even when circumstances change with differing complexities. It is necessary, however, to analyze a long-term power expansion plan from various points of view, such as environmental friendliness, benefit of a carbon reduction, and system reliability, as well as least cost operation. The objective and approach of this study is to analyze the proper role of nuclear power in a long-term expansion plan by comparing different scenarios in terms of the system cost changes, $CO_2$ emission reduction, and system reliability in relation to the Business-As-Usual (BAU). The conclusion of this paper makes it clear that the Korean government cannot but expand the nationwide nuclear power program, because an increased energy demand is inevitable and other energy resources will not provide an adequate solution from an economic and sustainability point of view. The results of this analysis will help the Korean government in its long-term resource planning of what kinds of role each electric resource can play in terms of a triangular dilemma involving economics, environmental friendliness, and a stable supply of electricity.
Following is an idea to utilize the business ethics as one of business administration strategies. Firstly, conversion of perception is needed in the business administration. Neglecting the pursuit of profit, the conventional strategic goal, is not desirable, we need to, however, have a mind that the consumer and environment centered mind is indispensible to the survival and growing of a business ultimately in establishing a strategic goal of diversified environmental changes. Secondly, conversion of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)'s attitude in business administration is needed. It is necessary for the CEO to have a strong belief that the business ethics is indispensible to the survival and growing of a business by way of fair and logical management. Therefore the business ethics should be improved since the CEO's ethics can be the standard of his business. Thirdly, the business concerned parties should be considered. The realization of business ethics should be done in a certain way so as to protect the benefit of the all concerned parties such as stockholders. employees, consumers, suppliers, competitors, the local community, etc., since a business is an organization that can exists and grows only in the coexistence with its environment and concerned parties. Fourth, the business ethics should be transformed into a business culture through the enlargement of the general principles of and of employees' behavior as a management strategy. Lastly, business ethics should be improved through continuous evaluations to accommodate its environmental change.

Fractures, especially faults have most significant influence on the difficulties encountered in various engineering and mining works, because they can give rise to inevitable reductions in shear strength as well as large increase in permeability. Thus, before underground access is possible, it is desirable to estimate the distribution and geometry of fractures in advance, if reliable structural data from e.g. Televiewer tool are available. To this end, fracture face mapping is just the evaluation method used to form a fracture image determined by intersecting of each fracture plane with a selected plane section of a rock mass, assuming that all fractures be planar with fixed-aperture. Although many fractures are geometrically complex and others are altered chemically, according to the abundant experiments in recent years, it would seem that the technique could be applied to benefit the design of numerous engineering works such as slope stability, tunnel excavations, dam foundation and diverse environmental works. This paper presents at first an evaluation algorithm for fracture face mapping and then concludes with various representative examples of applications.
