In this study, uranium migration experiments have been performed using a natural groundwater and a granite core with natural fractures in a glove-box constructed to simulate an appropriate subsurface environment. Groundwater flow experiments using the non-sorbing anionic tracer Br were carried out to analyze the flow properties of groundwater through the fracture of the granite core. The result of the uranium migration experiment showed a breakthrough curve similar to that of the non-sorting Br. This result may imply that uranium migrates as anionic complexes through the rock fracture since uranium can form carbonate complexes at a given groundwater condition. The distribution coefficient $K_d$ of the uranium between the groundwater and the fracture filling material was obtained as low as 2.7 mL/g from a batch sorption experiment. This result agrees well with the result from the migration experiment, showing a faster elution of the uranium through the rock fracture. In order to analyze retardation properties of the uranium through the rock fracture, the retardation factor $R_d({\sim}16.2)$ was obtained by using the $K_d$ obtained from the batch sorption experiment and it was compared with the $R_d({\sim}14.3)$ obtained by using the result from the uranium migration experiment. The values obtained from the both experiments were very similar to each other. This reveals that the retardation of the uranium is mainly occurred by the fracture filling material when the uranium migrates through the fracture of a granite core.
This study was performed to investigate the behaviour of root zone environments under the control of soil temperature and tension of soil moisture near the root Bone of 'Kyoho' grapes tree grown on restricted root zone system in plastic greenhouse. Maximum diurnal air temperature inside plastic greenhouse ranged between 25.1 and 32.7$^{\circ}C$, and the average of nocturnal air temperature inside plastic greenhouse maintained at 18$^{\circ}C$ in winter season. Also the minimum diurnal relative humidity ranged between 50 and 55%, and the maximum nocturnal relative humidity ranged between 84 to 87%. At a depth of 15cm from soil surface, the average soil temperature maintained at 25.6$^{\circ}C$ for under-ground heating, and appeared to 17.4$^{\circ}C$ for unheated condition. Although the tension of soil moisture just after irrigation sharply decreased to pF 1.5, the tension of soil moisture at the depth of 15cm maintained at pF 2.0~2.2. It is suggested that the tension of soil moisture at the depth of 15cm might be used as the standard for the determination of irrigation set point. Effective drainage system is needed to prevent the spindly and succulent growth of vine trees grown in restricted root zone system.
Tropical night phenomenon has been increasing due to global warming recently, it is expected that fruit quality of apples will decrease due to elevated night temperature condition. In the present study, fruit quality at maturity, periodic anthocyanin biosynthetic gene expression and sugar contents in leaves and fruit flesh were investigated to establish the physiological responses of 'Fuji' apples under high night temperature. The night temperature were treated with such as ambient (control), ambient $-4^{\circ}C$, and ambient $+4^{\circ}C$. After the treatment, high night temperature didn't affect fruit diameter, weight, and soluble sugar contents. Coloration of ambient $+4^{\circ}C$ was poor than that of control, however there was no significant difference between these genes expression of control and that of ambient $+4^{\circ}C$ treatment in the late coloration season. Increase of sorbitol and glucose contents at ambient $+4^{\circ}C$ in leaves were smaller than those at control, and then sorbitol and sucrose contents in fruit flesh at ambient $+4^{\circ}C$ were smaller than those at control. The cross section of leaves showed that there were no differences with the structure of parenchyma and epidermis tissues between the treatments, but starch granules in the palisade parenchyma cells decreased in high night temperature treatments. Consequently, high night temperature didn't affect the fruit quality, but changed sugar contents in leaves and fruit flesh, and suppressed coloration regardless of anthocyanin biosynthetic gene expression.
The relationship between water deficit stress and monodehydroascorbate reductase (MDHAR) activity was determined in lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) leaves under water stress condition imposed by with-holding water for 72 hrs. Relative water content determined in water deficit stressed lettuce leaves gradually reduced from 91.29% to 74.58%, and water content of medium drastically decreased 4.73% after quitting of irrigation. Hydrogen peroxide content in leaves subjected to water deficit stress rapidly increased, but soluble protein content rapidly decreased when those were compared to control plant. The relationship between relative water content and hydrogen peroxide content in stressed leaves positively correlated with $R^2$=0.8851, but soluble protein content reversely correlated with $R^2$=0.9826. Total chlorophyll content in stressed plant leaves was higher than that of control plant, and increased rapidly in early stage of treatment of both stressed and control plants. Carotenoid content was higher than that of control plant, and the ratio of carotenoid to total chlorophyll in stressed plant was higher as compared to control plant. As water deficit stress continued progressively, total ascorbate content in stressed plant leaves was a little higher than that of control plant. But dehydroascorbate (DHA) content within 6 hr of water deficit stress was higher than that of control plant, and then, content of control plant in 12 hr of stress treatment higher than that of stressed leaves. The activity of monodehydroascorbate reductase of cytosolic and chloroplastic tractions increased dramatically, and mRNA of MDHAR was highly detected by probing $^{32}P$-labeled single stranded MDHAR RNA of lettuce plant leaves subjected to water deficit stress. Relationship between MDHAR activity and relative water content and hydrogen peroxide highly correlated with $R^2$=0.9937 and 0.8645, respectively.

Among the various slope stabilization methods, the green soil method based on the growth of plants is advantageous to the environment, but the durability and slope stability are insufficient when the green soil method is applied to a steep slope and rock slope sites. Therefore, in this study, green soil, which improved the adhesion performance and the vegetation environment, was developed using cementitious materials and ECG, and the durability and slope stability as well as the possibility of its use as a rock vegetation base material were assessed. From the results, the adhesive force and internal friction angle were higher than that of the existing green soil so that it could be used for in situ construction. The soil hardness value was 26 mm, which was slightly higher than that of the best growth condition of the plant, 18~23 mm, and the drying shrinkage strain was approximately 3%; hence, it is not expected to affect the durability of green soil. The results of a rainfall intensity simulation for evaluating the slope adhesion force showed that slope failure did not occur under all conditions. The damage decreased with increasing slope angle. Therefore, the green soils developed in this study have excellent durability and slope stability and can be used for rock slope sites.

Units assembled in the liquid-propellant propulsion system of launch vehicles should guarantee their on- and off-design performances under the various environments as well as at the various operation modes for the launch preparation and flight of launch vehicles. Units of liquid-propellant propulsion system can be installed in launch vehicle to insert satellite(s) into target orbit(s) only under the condition that all units must pass a series of tests to confirm whether those units perform normally as designed under the environment, which may be occurred in such stages of all development and operations as development, qualification, acceptance, assembly, pre-launch preparation, launch, and flight, and whether those units have been developed according to design requirements. Requirements for such tests have been already prepared in the advanced countries in launch vehicle systems based on experiences for decades. In Korea, where is now pursuing the development of KSLV-II, the research and development of launch vehicles using liquid-propellant propulsion system have been undergone during over 10 years. Hence test requirements for the development of units consisting of liquid-propellant propulsion system should be defined and Koreanized according to the domestic environment and circumstances and based on the experiences accumulated. In this paper requirements for the tests of units in liquid-propellant propulsion system, which can be feasible domestically, have been reviewed and defined.

The most important factor affecting the berthing energy generated when a ship berths is the berthing velocity. Thus, an accident may occur if the berthing velocity is extremely high. Several ship features influence the determination of the berthing velocity. However, previous studies have mostly focused on the size of the vessel. Therefore, the aim of this study is to analyze various features that influence berthing velocity and determine their respective importance. The data used in the analysis was based on the berthing velocity of a ship on a jetty in Korea. Using the collected data, machine learning classification algorithms were compared and analyzed, such as decision tree, random forest, logistic regression, and perceptron. As an algorithm evaluation method, indexes according to the confusion matrix were used. Consequently, perceptron demonstrated the best performance, and the feature importance was in the following order: DWT, jetty number, and state. Hence, when berthing a ship, the berthing velocity should be determined in consideration of various features, such as the size of the ship, position of the jetty, and loading condition of the cargo.

Measurements using five real-time particle samplers were compared to measurements using three NRM (National Reference Method system) filter-based samplers(Gravimetric method) at Incheon, Korea, between May and August, 2014. The purpose of this study was to suggest the quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) method of each instrument for use in a real-time continuous particle sampler to measure the mass of airborne particles with an aerodynamic diameter less than $2.5{\mu}m$ ($PM_{2.5}$). Five real-time particle samplers of BAM1020, FH62C_14, TEOM, PM-711 and SPM-613 were evaluated by comparing its measured 23 hr average $PM_{2.5}$ concentrations with those measured with NRM filter-based samplers simultaneously. The parameters(e.g. Inlet heating condition, Slope factor, Film response, Intercept, Background, Span value) of the real-time samplers were optimized respectively by conducting test performance evaluation during 7 days in field sampling. For example, inlet heating temperature of TEOM sampler controls $35{\sim}40^{\circ}C$ to minimize the fluctuation of the real-time measurement data and background value of BAM1020 is the key factor affecting the accuracy of $PM_{2.5}$ mass concentration. We classified the $PM_{2.5}$ concentration according to relative humidity (80%) to identify water absorbed in aerosols by measuring the ${\beta}$-ray samplers(BAM1020, FH62C_14) and TEOM. ${\beta}$-ray samplers were not strongly affected by relative humidity that the difference of the average $PM_{2.5}$ concentration was about 5%. On the other hand, The TEOM sampler overestimated $PM_{2.5}$ mass concentration about 15% at low relative humidity (<80%).
The issue concerning how to integrate with the needs of sustainable development according to Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design(CPTED) theory still continues in the development process of the third-generation theory at the present stage. In addition, the issue is under worldwide controversy and discussion. What is more noteworthy is that the viewpoints under debate and discussion have an influence on the mutual effect and relationship between the theoretical model and the principles in the theoretical model, and the influence can never be underestimated. After a mastery of the overall context of theoretical development, it is believed in this study that the identity of CPTED theory development can provide a diverse understanding dimension and a communication method between the environment and environmental users. On the basis of identity the development of CPTED theory, the crime prevention design mode of CPTED needs to connect different dimensions of sustainability, with the design goal of livability as the starting point, the Top-down model to adjust the safety of the environment. By no means can the environmental condition be improved by solely relying on the previous physical design method in virtue of Bottom-up model. Therefore, in this study, the identity of CPTED will be set as the core combined with Top-down crime prevention design model to propose a visual proposal for the reconstitution of the theoretical model, rather than supplementing the application of the contents or principles at a certain stage. Hence, it is expected to provide reference and enlightenment for the sustainable development of CPTED theory.

To investigate the effects of sediments on the water quality of an estuary reservoir, Asan reservoir, we analyzed physical and chemical characteristics of the sediments and estimated nutrients release rate from the sediments. The sediments characterized as sandy loam are mainly composed of Nonapatite-P(64.7%) which has strong influence on the eutrophication of the reservoir by releasing from the sediments under the condition of increasing pH and anaerobic environment. High nutrient release rates was observed in April. Negative release rates in June show that there is no significant nutrient release from the sediments. The nutrient release was active at the Site B around the confluence of tributary compared to the Site A near the embankment. Based on the information of nutrient release rates and sediments surface area, daily average nutrient release rates of Asan reservoir are estimated; TN 6,609 kg/d, TP 3,877 kg/d. Since the amount of N and P released from the sediments corresponds to the 7.06% of N and 22.04% of P incoming from the watershed, it can be concluded that there is little influence of sediments on the water quality of Asan reservoir.
