The BEM is a highly efficient method in the sense of economical computation. However, boundary integration is not easy for the complex geometry and moving surface, e.g. a rotating blade. Thus, Kirchhoff surface is designed in an effort to overcome the difficulty resulting from complex boundary conditions. A Kirchhoff surface is a fictitious surface which envelopes acoustic sources of main concern. Acoustic sources may be distributed on each Kirchhoff surface element according to their acoustic characteristics. In this study, an axial fan is assumed to have unsteady loading noise as a dominant source. Dipole sources can be modeled to solve the FW-H equation. Acoustic field is then computed by determining Kirchhoff surface on which near-field is implemented, to analyze the effect of Kirchhoff surface on it. The optimal shape and the location of Kirchhoff surface are discussed by comparing with experimental data acquired in an anechoic chamber.

This paper presents an automated computer vision-based system to update BIM data by leveraging multi-modal visual data collected from existing buildings under inspection. Currently, visual inspections are conducted for building envelopes or mechanical systems, and auditors analyze energy-related contextual information to examine if their performance is maintained as expected by the design. By translating 3D surface thermal profiles into energy performance metrics such as actual R-values at point-level and by mapping such properties to the associated BIM elements using XML Document Object Model (DOM), the proposed method shortens the energy performance modeling gap between the architectural information in the as-designed BIM and the as-is building condition, which improve the reliability of building energy analysis. Several case studies were conducted to experimentally evaluate their impact on BIM-based energy analysis to calculate energy load. The experimental results on existing buildings show that (1) the point-level thermography-based thermal resistance measurement can be automatically matched with the associated BIM elements; and (2) their corresponding thermal properties are automatically updated in gbXML schema. This paper provides practitioners with insight to uncover the fundamentals of how multi-modal visual data can be used to improve the accuracy of building energy modeling for retrofit analysis. Open research challenges and lessons learned from real-world case studies are discussed in detail.
Molecules always show broad absorption band envelopes, and this results from the vibrational properties of bonds. The width of an absorption band can have an important influence on the color of a dye. A narrow band imparts a bright, spectrally pure color to the dye, whereas a broad band can give the same hue, but with a much duller appearance. Typically, half-band widths of cyanine dyes are about 25nm compared to value of over 50nm for typical merocyanine dyes. Thus, cyanine dyes are exceptionally bright. The factors influencing the width of an absorption band can be understood with reference to the Morse curves. The width of the absorption band depends on how closely the bond order of the molecules in the first excited state resembles that in the ground state. We have quantitatively evaluated the "molecular structure-absorption band shape" relationship of dye molecules by means of Pariser-Parr-Pople Molecular Orbital Method(PPP-MO).

The purpose of this work was to investigate the induction of stress shock proteins (SSPs) in Burkholderia sp. YK-2 in response to 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D), and Pseudomonas sp. DJ-12 to benzoate, 4-chlorobenzoate (4-CBA), 4-hydroxybenzoate, and biphenyl. The SSPs, which contribute to the resistance of the cytotoxic effect of the toxic aromatic compounds including 2,4-D and 4-CBA, were induced at different concentrations of the compounds in exponentially growing cultures of Burkholderia sp. YK-2 or Pseudomonas sp. DJ-12. This response involved the induction of a 43 kDa DnaK and 41 kDa GroEL proteins in Burkholderia sp. YK-2, characterized by SDS-PAGE and Western blot using the anti-DnaK and anti-GroEL monoclonal antibodies. In Pseudomonas sp. DJ-12, 70 kDa DnaK and 60 kDa GroEL proteins was induced as SSPs, respectively. The total SSPs were analyzed by 2-D PAGE. Survival of Burkholderia sp. YK-2 or Pseudomonas sp. DJ-12 with time in the presence of different concentrations of the compounds was monitored, and viable counts paralleled the induction of the SSPs in these strains. Cells treated with the increased concentrations of toxic compounds showed some destructive openings on the cell envelopes.
The best plan is that the insulation performance should be improved because the insulation and airtight of building envelopes have an effect on the energy consumption basically. New insulation materials, which have the high performance and are above insulation standard, have been developed steadily. Because there are not studies on the building energy rating system and economic evaluation considering new insulation materials, these matters should be studied. In result alternatives, which applied 6 high performance material each, influence, reduce the annual heating energy and raise the building energy rating. Applying the vacuum insulation material(Case1,2) and vacuum or triple glazing can retrieves the investment with $120 and $$140{\sim}150$ per barrel each.
Moisture in a building is one of the most important variables influencing building performance, human health, and comfort of indoor environment. However, there are still lacks in the knowledge of understanding the moisture problem well and controlling moisture. Accordingly, in order to provide the fundamental data to control moisture contents in the indoor air, this study was to predict moisture contents transferred through building envelopes and indoor moisture generation rate. Moisture transfer model was made by physical relations in each node, and the indoor moisture generation rate was gained by comparing the model with experimental analyses. From the study, we found out that moisture generation rate was critical and day-periodic, so that we predicted the indoor moisture content by substituting the constant value gained from the average in a day for the moisture generation rate.
Theory of the building heat transfer is generally limited to the heat flux to the surfaces of windows and walls, which influences the indoor climate of a building, in the field of architectural environmental engineering. While the heat flux from the buildings to their environment has been considered in the viewpoint of urban climate, its conventional theory have been rarely examined. The purpose of this study is to propose a building-urban heat transfer model for defining the relation between the building and the urban climate by extending the building heat transfer model. In this study, the extended building heat transfer model, where response factor method is used, is established on the urban space and the indoor space by the boundary of building envelopes. Computer simulation (HASP/ACLD) is conducted on the subjected urban area by the established building-urban heat transfer model. As a result it is logically proved that the short waves of solar radiation, which interact with long Waves of radiation from the buildings and the earth, increase the urban air temperature ana buildings largely influence on the urban climate.
One of the most significant errors in the pseudo-range measurement performance of GNSSes (Global Navigation Satellite Systems) is their multipath error for high-precision applications. Several schemes to mitigate this error have been studied. Most of them, however, have been focused on the GPS (Global Positioning System) L1 C/A (Coarse/Acquisition) signal that was designed in the 1970s and is still being used for civil navigation. Recently, several modernized signals that were especially conceived to more significantly mitigate multipath errors have been introduced, such as Time Multiplexed and Composite Binary Offset Carrier (TMBOC and CBOC, respectively) signals. Despite this advantage, however, a problem remains with the use of TMBOC and CBOC modulations: the ambiguity of BOC (Binary Offset Carrier)-modulated signal tracking. In this paper, a novel unambiguous multipath error mitigation scheme for these modernized signals is proposed. The proposed scheme has the same complexity as HRCs (High Resolution Correlators) but with low ambiguity. The simulation results showed that the proposed scheme outperformed or performed at par with the HRC in terms of their multipath error envelopes and running averages in the static and statistical channel models. The ranging error derived by the mean multipath error of the proposed scheme was below 1.8 meters in an urban area in the statistical channel model.
Current high-resolution IR spectroscopy at ground-based observatories made it possible to observe $3-{\mu}m\;CH_4$ emission lines from the atmospheres of Jupiter, Saturn, and Titan through narrow atmospheric windows avoiding the counterparts of telluric $CH_4$ absorptions if proper Doppler shifts betwen Earth and these planetary objects are provided. We are also expecting low-resolution (R~300) infrared spectra of Jupiter from the upcoming observations by JUNO's infrared $2-5{\mu}m$ spectrograph during the encounter with Jupiter approximately starting from July 4, 2016. Although the spectral resolution is not enough to resolve the $3-{\mu}m$ P, Q, R branch lines of CH4, the gross envelopes of the P, Q, R branches should yield information on rotational temperatures. The rotational temperatures are useful because theycan be regarded as local temperatures, as discussed by Kim et al. (2014). Since the $3-{\mu}m\;CH_4$ emission is mostly formed at micro-bar pressure levels, the derived rotational temperatures represent the local temperatures near the hompause of Jupiter. We discuss possible sciences from the derived homopause temperatures in the auroral and non-auroral regions of Jupiter.
