  • In this paper, the stochastic 1D site response analysis method using Monte Carlo simulation and considering thespatial variation of shear wave velocity profile isproposed. To consider thespatial variation of shear wave velocity profile for 1D site response analysis, the proposed method generates random shear wave velocity profiles representing the target site, and Monte Carlo simulation is used to calculate theprobability distribution of the site response analysis results such as thepeak ground acceleration. Through the field application, The applicability of the proposed method is verified through field application.

  • Large-scale offshore wind power is emerging as a viable solution to achieve carbon neutrality and solve climate change. As power generation complexes require ample space for construction, they create conflicts with residents near the construction site. To resolve the issue with residents, Korea, along with other countries, has developed policies that focus on influencing public perception. However, as the contents of such policies changed several times in a short period in Korea, they were differently applied depending on the timing of the project. This study examines how Korean offshore wind power site development policies, particularly the ones focusing on swaying public perception, were applied differently by regions.

  • Since the HF release in 2012 in Korea, it became one of the most significant to evaluate consequence to the vicinity of industry facilities handling hazardous materials. BTX plant is selected to assess off-site risk to check whether the facility satisfies the Chemical Control Law by Korea Government. Accident scenarios were listed using process safety information. The scenarios having effect to the off-site were selected and assessed further according to guideline provided by Korea government. Worst case and alternative scenarios including other interested scenarios were evaluated using ALOHA. Each evaluated scenario was assessed further considering countermeasures. The results showed that the facility handling chloric acid is safe enough and needed no further protections at the moment.

  • This paper suggests the site-dependent ductility factor which is a key component of response modification factor(R). To compute the ductility factor, a group of 1,860 ground motions recorded from 47 earthquake was considered. Based on the local site conditions at the recording station, ground motions were classified into four groups according to average shear wave velocity. This site classification was consistent with site categories of the UBC(1997), NEHRP(1997) and IBC 2000(1997). Based on the results of regression analysis, a simplified equations were proposed to compute site-dependent ductility factors. The proposed equations were relatively simple and provide a good estimation of mean ductility factors. Based on the proposed equation, ductility factors considering the site conditions can be evaluated in accordance with the present building codes.

  • Seismic parameters fur computation of ground motions in Southern Korea are obtained from recently recorded data, and site-independent regional and site-dependent local strong ground motions are predicted using efficient computational techniques. For the computation of ground motions, we devised an efficient procedure to compute site-independent $x_{q}$ and dependent $x_{s}$ values separately. The first step of this procedure is to use the coda normalization method far computation of site independent Q or corresponding $x_{q}$ value. The next step is the computation of $x_{s}$, values fur each site separately using the given $x_{q}$ value. For computation of ground motions the empirical Green's function (EGF) is modified to account fur the depth and distance variations of subevents on a finite fault plane using the theoritical Green's function. It is computed using wavenumber integration technique in layered media. The site dependent ground motions at seismic stations in southeastern local area were properly simulated using the modified empirical Green's function method in layered medium. The proposed method and procedures fur estimation of site dependent seismic parameters and ground motions could be efficiently used in the low and moderate seismicity regions.ons.s.ons.

  • The comparison of three different kind of simulation by screen3 model, Tem-8 model and EPA formula were undertaken to get a potential concentration and hourly maximum concentration of fugitive dust produced from each construction site in the downtown area of puchon city. The amount of dust estimate U.S EPA formula and fugitive dust formula 22.6078g/sec, 27.9572g/sec respectively. Hourly maximum concenstration at the distance from each construction site by screen3 model are average of $78.89{\sim}728.40{\mu}g/m^3$ and Tem-8 model are $97{\mu}g/m^3$ in site-1, $241{\mu}g/m^3$ in site-2, $268{\mu}g/m^3$ in site-3, $232{\mu}g/m^3$ in site-4, $69{\mu}g/m^3$ in site-5, $36{\mu}g/m^3$ in site-6. Through our experiment, Screen3 model is more encouragingly used than any other model.

  • Based on the modeling of DGPS antenna and antenna site environment, the DGPS short-monopole antenna performance according to the antenna surrounding environment are analyzed in this paper. The DGPS antenna site modeling that considers the ground conductivity and radio wave obstacles is performed and the general requirements for DGPS antenna site are proposed. In case of antenna site with proper radials on the ground plane of the fixed scale, the effect for antenna matching network due to the ground conductivity and radio wave obstacles is small but the impact on the radiation efficiency is large. To provide the stable DGPS service, it is important to install the DGPS antenna on the flat ground plain with good conductivity and without radio wave obstacles.

  • Splice site prediction in DNA sequence is a basic search problem for finding exon/intron and intron/exon boundaries. Removing introns and then joining the exons together forms the mRNA sequence. These sequences are the input of the translation process. It is a necessary step in the central dogma of molecular biology. The main task of splice site prediction is to find out the exact GT and AG ended sequences. Then it identifies the true and false GT and AG ended sequences among those candidate sequences. In this paper, we survey research works on splice site prediction based on support vector machine (SVM). The basic difference between these research works is nucleotide encoding technique and SVM kernel selection. Some methods encode the DNA sequence in a sparse way whereas others encode in a probabilistic manner. The encoded sequences serve as input of SVM. The task of SVM is to classify them using its learning model. The accuracy of classification largely depends on the proper kernel selection for sequence data as well as a selection of kernel parameter. We observe each encoding technique and classify them according to their similarity. Then we discuss about kernel and their parameter selection. Our survey paper provides a basic understanding of encoding approaches and proper kernel selection of SVM for splice site prediction.

  • In recent years, concern about the decommissioning of nuclear power plants has been growing according to the nuclear power plants aging. Although site reuse is one of the most important issues in doing decommissioning of nuclear power plants in view of the internal affairs, there is currently no specific standard of the site release criteria for site reuse in the Republic of Korea. In this study, we analyzed the international safety standards for the site release(IAEA's Safety Guide No. WS-G-5.1) and the present domestic condition. Also, we studied the site release criteria and real life examples about advanced countries such as United states and Europe, which already have experience of decommissioning or site release. As a results of the study, we suggested proper standards and future consideration to establish site release criteria. This will be used for preliminary data for establishing the domestic site release criteria after the decommissioning of nuclear power plants.
