Development of Integrated Cost and Schedule Management System using Work Package Concept for Efficient Project Management (Work package 개념을 활용한 현장의 공정관리와 공사비 통합관리 효율화 방안)

  • Korean construction industry is facing downtime mood and need more productivity. In order to successfully accomplish the construction project with more productivity, systematic and reasonable schedule management techniques should be developed and utilized. Therefore, in this study, first, a current status of the schedule management in the construction site is identified and the improvements in the schedule management are suggested. And, the effective schedule management technique in the construction site is proposed based on the in-site experience of the researcher. In order to find solutions, survey questionnaires designed to measure the understanding of process management and measure perception of the importance of schedule management. Total twenty nine field engineers who are performing schedule management of construction project at domestic civil engineering construction site were participated in the survey, and In-depth interviews were conducted. Eleven construction sites are inspected. Finally, a simple and effective schedule management technique including from WSB classification to schedule analysis, performance management, and performance improvement is proposed based on the inspection of current status of schedule management in civil engineering construction site.

An On-site and Off-site Collaborative Safety Monitoring Framework using Augmented and Virtual Reality for Nearmiss Incidents

  • The emergence of Building Information Modelling (BIM), reality data, Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR) has significantly enhanced the collaboration between stakeholders in construction management. The utilization of VR/AR devices holds considerable potential for monitoring safety in complex and constrained working environments on the construction site. On the other hand, near-miss incidents remain an important early sign of struck-by accidents. However, research on early warning and prevention methods for this risk is still limited. This paper, therefore, presents a framework for on-site and off-site collaborative safety monitoring framework using augmented and virtual reality for near-miss incidents. In the proposed framework, three phases to develop a VR/AR-based safety monitoring system include (1) construction safety simulation environment, (2) localization-based interaction system, and (3) safety monitoring system. The system can undertake the processing of data and enables communication among disparate VR/AR devices. VR clients are observational tools and offer guidance, while the AR client stays onsite for construction tasks. All clients connect to a processing computer, which also works as a host. The system embedded in the AR device can trigger an alarm or receive signals from the VR client when a near-miss issue happens. Additionally, all device clients possess the capability to share data acquired from onsite monitoring cameras, thereby fostering effective discussions and decision-making. The efficacy of this cross-platform system has been validated through the implementation of an outdoor coordination case study.

  • A pair of piezoelectric transducers was developed for geotechnical site characterization in rock materials. SH-wave measurement capability of the transducers can provide a more complete characterization. The performance of the transducers was tested at a limestone site.

  • The preparation of dendritic molecule for photodynamic diagnosis (PDD) or photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been interested on design and synthesis of macromolecule toward a new generation. Herein, the binding site of polyether group is an important role on the construction of macromolecule toward a new generation. Therefore, we will be presented on the preparation of dendritic molecule having the binding site.

Evaluation of Menu Quality Management in Business & Industry Contract Foodservice from Manager′s Viewpoint (사업체 위탁 급식소에서 제공되는 메뉴에 대한 관리자 측면에서의 품질 관리 평가)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze and evaluate the menu served in business & industry contract foodservice by assessing nutritional value and by using menu-engineering technique from managers' view point. CAN-Pro program and Kasavana k Smith's Menu Engineering technique were used to evaluate the nutritional value and menu analysis, respectively. The data were analyzed using the SAS package program for descriptive analysis, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson Correlation Analysis. As the result of nutritional value of lunch menu, all nutrient contents per meal were higher than a third of Korean recommended dietary allowances(RDA), But there was no problem when 20∼30% of plate waste was considered. Carbohydrate : Protein fat ratio was 62.7 : 16.4 : 20.8. Because animal : vegetable source ratios of protein, fat, calcium, iron were 44 : 56, 42 : 58, 22 : 78, 24 : 76, respectively, animal sources of calcium and iron needed to be supplemented. Plural set menus of A site were classified as STAR, PUZZLE, PLOWHORSE, DOG by Menu engineering technique. Set menus and soups & pot-stews among cafeteria menus in C site were operated properly without DOG and PUZZLE item. Side dishes of fishes, meats 8t eggs among cafeteria menus in C site were, for the most part, classified as STAR item, and side dishes of vegetables & salads and noodles among cafeteria menus in C site were STAR, PUZZLE, and DOG items. A Study on the P.S.M. system for the Construction Safety (건설안전을 위한 P.S.M. 기법에 관한 연구)

  • In order to introduce P.S.M. system adequate to domestic construction first, many cases similar to advanced foreign P.S.M. system have been collected and compared to the domestic situation. Then, the current safety management status of bridges, subways, apartment and office building construction are investigated while visiting interview, using questionnaire at site have being done. The potential hazard and measurement have been investigated for each kind of works, and the domestic introducing method of P.S.M. system is analyzed with expert discussion. In order to represent how to make out P.S.M. plan, the questionnaire is made out using each five place for bridge, subways, apartment and office building. As the weight factor for potential hazard of each work obtained from more than forty site places, is produced and shown. Also, a direction the recommendation is suggested to improve tool in each construction site with work schedule. It is thought that proposed schedule contributed to keeping in safe business administration of each company in decreasing many effort at the construction site.

Simulation Study of Blood Perfusion according to Outflow Cannulation Site of Left Ventricular Assist Device (좌심실보조장치의 출구 캐뉼라의 삽관 위치에 따른 혈액관류에 대한 시뮬레이션 연구)

  • Outflow cannulation site of left ventricular assist device(LVAD) chosen by considering anatomical structure of thoracic cavity and vascular system. Though outflow cannulation site influences blood perfusion at each branch, there is no standard rule or quantitative data. In this study, we computed the amount of blood perfusion at each arterial branch numerically according to outflow cannulation sites(ascending aorta, aortic arch, descending aorta). We generated computational meshes to the three-dimensionally reconstructed arterial system. Clinically measured arterial pressure were used for inlet boundary condition, porous media were applied to mimic blood flow resistance. Blood perfusion through left common carotid artery was 2.5 times higher than other cases, and that through right common carotid artery was 1.1 times higher than other branches. Although this is simulation study, will be useful reference data for the clinical study of LVAD which considers blood perfusion efficiency.

  • Selecting optimal wind turbine generators for wind farm sites in the capacity factor point of view is performed in this study. A program to determine the best wind turbine generator for the maximum capacity factor for a site was developed. The program uses both the wind characteristics of the site of interest and the power curves of the wind turbines. The program developed was applied to find out optimal wind turbine generators of three different sites in complex terrain and successfully yielded the best site dependent wind turbine generators. It was also used to determine the best wind turbine generator of the wind farm currently operating in Korea and proved its usefulness. The program and methodology developed in this study considered to be very useful at the initial design stage of the wind farm to determine the best wind turbine generators for the site of interest.

Three-dimensional geostatistical modeling of subsurface stratification and SPT-N Value at dam site in South Korea

  • The 3D geospatial modeling of geotechnical information can aid in understanding the geotechnical characteristic values of the continuous subsurface at construction sites. In this study, a geostatistical optimization model for the three-dimensional (3D) mapping of subsurface stratification and the SPT-N value based on a trial-and-error rule was developed and applied to a dam emergency spillway site in South Korea. Geospatial database development for a geotechnical investigation, reconstitution of the target grid volume, and detection of outliers in the borehole dataset were implemented prior to the 3D modeling. For the site-specific subsurface stratification of the engineering geo-layer, we developed an integration method for the borehole and geophysical survey datasets based on the geostatistical optimization procedure of ordinary kriging and sequential Gaussian simulation (SGS) by comparing their cross-validation-based prediction residuals. We also developed an optimization technique based on SGS for estimating the 3D geometry of the SPT-N value. This method involves quantitatively testing the reliability of SGS and selecting the realizations with a high estimation accuracy. Boring tests were performed for validation, and the proposed method yielded more accurate prediction results and reproduced the spatial distribution of geotechnical information more effectively than the conventional geostatistical approach.
