  • BIM having started from architecture is being used in civil structure, but there are very few examples despite its effectiveness. In this paper, based on BIM technology, it is presented the method and result of developing web-based 5D system connecting cost, schedule and 3D model from the cable-stayed bridge. Through the system, the user can understand easily schedule on specific time and during some period and extract cost directly. This system also can manage various data types such as drawings, 3D models, documents and photos, for enhanced communication between stakeholders.

Monitoring and performance assessment of a highway bridge via operational modal analysis

  • In this paper, through operational modal analysis and ambient vibration tests, the dynamic characteristics of a multi-span simply-supported reinforced concrete highway bridge deck was determined and the results were used to assess the quality of construction of the individual spans. Supporting finite element (FE) models were created and analyzed according to the design drawings. After carrying out the dynamic tests and extracting the modal properties of the deck, the quality of construction was relatively assessed by comparing the results obtained from all the tests from the individual spans and the FE results. A comparison of the test results among the different spans showed a maximum difference value of around 9.3 percent between the superstructure's natural frequencies. These minor differences besides the obtained values of modal damping ratios, in which the differences were not more than 5 percent, can be resulted from suitable performance, health, and acceptable construction quality of the bridge.

  • For several decades, productivity in construction industry has been regressed and it is inevitable to improve productivity for major EPC players. One of challenges to achieve this goal is automatically extracting information from imaged drawings. Although computer vision technique has been advanced rapidly, it is still a problem to detect pipe lines in a drawing. Earlier works for line detection have problems that detected line elements be broken into small pieces and accuracy of detection is not enough for engineers. Thus, we adopted Contour and Hough Transform algorithm and reinforced these to improve detection results. First, Contour algorithm is used with Ramer Douglas Peucker algorithm(RDP). Weakness of contour algorithm is that some blank spaces are occasionally found in the middle of lines and RDP covers them around 17%. Second, HEC Hough Transform algorithm, we propose on this paper, is improved version of Hough Transform. It adopted iteration of Hough Transform and merged detected lines by conventional Hough Transform based on Euclidean Distance. As a result, performance of Our proposed method improved by 30% than previous.

  • 건설 프로젝트 수행에서 설계정보는 실제 건축물에 대한 정확한 정보가 반영된 체계적인 모델로 구축하여 프로젝트 전 단계에서 적용할 수 있어야 한다. 하지만 3차원 기반의 도면과 관련 문서에 대한 파일 관리 위주의 시스템은 발주자 및 설계자의 의도를 명확하게 표현하고 전달하기 어려울 뿐만 아니라 단순기능위주, 방대자료의 정리 부족, 축적된 정보와 실행정보의 공유 및 교환이 미비한 수준이다. 반면, 제반 환경의 변화와 기술의 발전 속도는 관련 사용자들이 적응하기 어려울 정도로 급변하고 있다. CAD 기술의 발전은 기존의 2차원 도면 위주에서 3차원 모델기능의 확대와 발전으로 많은 설계정보를 CAD를 통해 표현하고 기타 관련정보와 연계할 수 있는 CAD시스템들이 등장하고 있다. 그러나 아직까지 현시점에서 설계관련 모든 정보를 3차원 모델을 통해 나타내는 것은 매우 어려우며 많은 시간과 비용을 필요로 하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 기존 3차원 도면 및 시방서 위주의 시스템에서 3차원 모델기반의 설계정보관리 시스템으로의 전환기 시점에 초점을 두고 3차원 모델기반 시스템으로의 완전한 전환이 아닌 3차원과 3차원 기반 시스템의 공존을 통한 전환에 그 초점을 두고 있다. 다시 말해 2차원 도면과 3차원 모델의 통합을 통한 혼합된 형태의 2차원 및 3차원 설계정보관리시스템의 모델을 제시하고자 하며, 이를 통해 객체기반 설계 및 시방서 정보 통합관리시스템을 개발하는 것이 본 연구의 목적이다. 본 연구에서는 3차원 도면 및 시방서 정보를 통합하여 3차원 객체 기반의 설계정보로 표현하기 어려운 부분을 보완하고, 3차원 정보를 효과적으로 활용할 수 있도록 관련 업무를 분석하고, 관리 모델을 구축하여, 이를 기반으로 한 설계도면 및 시방서 통합관리 시스템을 구축하였다.

Success Factors of Highway Construction Projects in Egypt: AHP Approach

  • While the idea of the existence of a set of key factors for success in planning, designing and construction of projects is not new, it remains one of the most important issues in the field of construction management. This is due to project success factors are inputs to project management practice which can lead directly or indirectly to project success. This study identifies the success factors which can be used for improving the highway projects performance in Egypt during the project pre-construction and construction phases. Through a detailed literature review 35 success factors are identified. Furthermore, the AHP is adopted to prioritize the studied factors through the application of questionnaire survey. The study establishes that implementing an effective quality control and assurance systems, allow sufficient time for feasibility studies, design, drawing and tender preparation, effective cost control system and frequency of project budget updates, preparing adequate designs and drawings and determining sufficient time to implement the desired scope of work are the most important success factors for enhancing the highway projects performance in Egypt.

  • 본 논문은 선박 의장설계의 업무를 표준화된 환경에서 정확한 데이터와 통일된 시스템들을 제공하기 위한 프레임워크의 개발에 관한 연구이다. 기존의 방법에서는 다수의 사용자들이 보관하고 있는 개별 데이터로 인하여 잘못된 정보의 생성으로 프로세스상에 여러 문제점이 발생하고 있다. 본 연구는 엔지니어링 업무에 필요한 구성요소들을 분석하고, 정확한 설계 정보를 활용할 수 있는 지식기반의 업무 환경을 제공하며, 이를 통해 선박 의장설계 시스템의 사용자들이 향상된 업무 프로세스로 업무 효율을 높일 수 있는 설계 지원시스템을 위한 프레임워크의 개발에 관한 연구이다.

하자예방정보 넥서스 기반 건축마감공사 품질점검 지원 모델 (Nexus based Quality Inspection Support Model for Defect Prevention of Architectural Finishing Works)

  • 공사 완료 시점에는 다양한 마감 공정들이 집중적으로 수행된다. 이는 현장관리자의 업무 부담을 가중시켜 경험에 근거한 임기응변적 품질관리 업무수행을 강제함으로써 감독자나 작업자의 개인역량에 따라 공사품질의 편차가 발생한다. 또한 품질관리와 관련된 정보가 시방서, 도면 등 다양한 유형의 문서에 산재하여 점검사항이 누락되는 경우가 빈번하다. 하자예방과 관련된 정보들을 체계적으로 저장하고, 상호참조 가능한 상태로 연계하여 실무자에게 점검업무 전 또는 수행 중에 효과적으로 제공할 수 있는 도구가 필요하다. 본 논문은 공동주택 마감공사의 품질점검 대상 액티비티 또는 실 단위로 필요한 정보를 체계적으로 저장 검색이 가능한 품질점검 지원 모델을 제안한다. 시방서, 설계기준, 체크리스트, 법규, 하자사례, 도면을 마감공사 프로세스 및 실과 연계하여 하자예방 정보베이스와 정보연계 넥서스를 구축하였으며 이를 바탕으로 정보등록 및 검색 인터페이스를 제시하였다. 내용적으로 다양한 하자예방 정보들을 마감공사 액티비티 및 실을 중심으로 연계하여 활용 가능한 틀을 제시함으로써 일정 수준 이상의 시공품질 확보에 기여할 수 있다.

Applications of bridge information modeling in bridges life cycle

  • The purpose of this paper is to present an Integrated Life Cycle Bridge Information Modeling that can be used throughout different phases of the bridge life cycle including: design, construction, and operation and maintenance phases. Bridge Information Modeling (BrIM) has become an effective tool in bridge engineering and construction. It has been used in obtaining accurate shop drawings, cost estimation, and visualization. In this paper, BrIM is used as an integrated tool for bridges life cycle information modeling. In the design phase, BrIM model can be used in obtaining optimum construction methods and performing structural advanced analysis. During construction phase, the model selects the appropriate locations for mobile cranes, monitors the status of precast components, and controls documents. Whereas, it acts as a tool for bridge management system in operation and maintenance phase. The paper provides a detailed description for each use of BrIM model in design, construction, and operation and maintenance phases of bridges. It is proven that BrIM is an effective tool for bridge management systems throughout their life phases.

Effects of deviation in materials' strengths on the lateral strength and damage of RC frames

  • The real behavior of the RC structures constructed based on the assumed specifications of the used materials is matched with the designed ones when the assumed and the applied specifications in construction are the same. Despite in the construction phase of the reinforced concrete (RC) structures always it is tried to implement the same specifications of materials as given in the executive drawings, but considering the unpredicted/uncontrolled parameters that affect the specification of materials, always there is a deviation between the constructed and the designed materials' specifications. The objective of this paper is to submit a guideline for the evaluation of the strength and damage to the existing RC structures encountered deviation in materials' strengths. To achieve this goal, the lateral strength (plastic behaviors) and damage to twenty-five RC moment-resisting frames (MRFs) are studied by applying the inelastic analysis. In this study, a couple of concrete and reinforcement strengths' deviations are investigated. The obtained results indicate that in general, there is a semi-linear relationship between the deviation in the strength of reinforcement and the changes in the lateral strength values of the MRFs. The relative effect of the deviation in the strength of reinforcements is more than the relative effect of the deviation in the concrete strength on the damage rate. The obtained results could be a guideline for the engineers in the survey of the existing buildings encountered deviation in materials' strengths during their construction phase.

  • In order to provide economic high-quality products to customers in a timely manner, companies have tried much effort to decrease the time period of engineering design and information management. As a part of this effort, we have developed the Drawing Information Management System(DIMS) based ofn GT(Group Technology) that could decrease design processing time by speedy and rational management of design processes. The characteristics of DIMS are as follows: First, the concept of Concurrent Engineering was applied to DIMS. Through LAN, reviewers are able to attach comments to dlectronic documents by anno- tation functions called Mark-up. The reviewer annotations are collected and combind with the original document to revise the documents. Second, we have developed a Classification and Coding(C&C) system suitable for electronic component parts bassed on GT(Group Technology). The C&C system makes both parts and drawing with similar characteriscs into families and helps users search existing documents or create new drawings promptly. Finally, DIMS provides the Engineering BOM(Bill of Material) using the concept of Family BOM based on model options.
