공과대학 학생 인성지수 도구 개발을 위한 기초 연구 (Development of the Character Index Instrument for Engineering College Students)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the character index instrument for engineering college students. For this, literature review and survey were used. The survey was conducted with 275 engineering college students in D university. Finally, draft of character index instrument for engineering college students was developed with 10 factors and 47 questions. Based on the results, the investigation of engineering college students' needs is necessary to conduct for developing character education programs. And it is necessary to research validity of the draft of character index instrument for engineering college students. It is necessary to develop various convergence subjects by experiencing the character substantially for engineering college students.

공과대학 신입생의 자기효능감, 공학흥미, 사회적지지, 대학생활적응 및 학업지속의향 간의 관계 (The relationship among self-efficacy, engineering interest and social support on adjustment to college and learning persistence in first year engineering college students)

  • The purpose of this research is to investigate the relationship among self-efficacy, engineering interest and social support on adjustment to college and learning persistence in first year engineering college students. The participants were 74 freshman of engineering college students, SPSS and SmartPLS were used to analyze the data. The key findings revealed were as follows: First, self-efficacy, engineering interest and social support had a significant influence on adjustment to college. Second, engineering interest and adjustment to college had a significant influence on learning persistence. This research suggested the implications for adjustment to college and learning persistence in engineering education.

Renovation of Engineering Education System for ABEEK Accreditation at the Yeungnam University

  • The needs for change in the traditional on engineering education system in Korea have been evoked since 1998 when the Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea (ABEEK) was about to be established. The engineering college at Yeungnam University has been one of the most active members in the Korean higher education institutions which participated in the ABEEK movement at the earliest stage. This paper reports the efforts made by Yeungnam University in preparing for the trial accreditation of engineering programs for the first time in Korea. The reformation and restructuring were made in many areas in order to establish the self-improving circulative engineering education system. The accreditation criteria were thoroughly investigated, and reforms were made in individual programs based on the critical assessment of existing system. The contents of educational reform and the experience during the trial accreditation process are summarized and discussed.

연구중심 공과대학에서 창의교육의 개선방향 탐색 (Exploring Creativity Education in Research-oriented College of Engineering)

  • The aim of this paper is to find directions for improving creativity education in a research-oriented college of engineering. As a method, we interviewed 17 professors and 7 students from a research-oriented college of engineering in Seoul, South Korea and learned about their experiences related to creativity education. As a result, we were able to identify 6 topics on which the interviewees' opinions vary. We found that most professors we interviewed did not think creativity was important in their classrooms as they thought passing on engineering knowledge was more important in foundational engineering education, and creativity is hard to define. However, their evaluation method in class showed that they valued creativity, and were trying to teach creativity with little success. Also, while the professors thought they needed more communication with the students to improve creativity education, the students thought they needed more autonomy. In consideration of our findings, we proposed 4 directions for improving creativity education in a research-oriented college of engineering. First, shift perspective on the foundational education for engineering. Second, connect basic curriculum and extracurricular activities. Third, actively connect basic curriculum with the industry. Finally, provide appropriate facilities that enable different types of interactions between professors and students.

  • 국내 대학과 외국대학의 공과대학들이 설정하고 있는 교육목표들의 현황과 특징을 살펴보았다. 대부분의 국내 공과대학들이 능력을 갖춘 인력 배출, 엔지니어로서의 기본 자질 교육, 높은 수준의 교육환경 실현을 목표로 설정하고 있다. 많은 외국 공과대학들은 "리더십"과 "진취성"에 많은 비중을 두고 있고, "창의성"과 "전문성"을 그리고 "봉사"를 강조하고 있는 추세이다. 외국과 국내 공과대학 교육목표는 특징이나 강조점에서 유사한 점이 많았다. 이들 교육목표에 대한 자료들은 장차 공과대학들이 지향하는 방향을 검토하는데 기초 자료가 될 수 있을 것이다.

  • 본 논문은 지방에 소재하고 있는 지역 공과대학의 공학소양교육에 대해 연구한 것이다. 기업의 대학교육에 대한 평가, 대학 및 이공계 지원 학생수의 감소, 고등학교 교과과정의 변화 등 공학교육 전반에 대한 환경 변화에 대응하여, 기초과학, 전산 및 교양 등 공학소양교육에 대한 개선 방안을 모색하기 위해, 현재 진행되고 있는 홍익대학교 과학기술대학의 공학소양교육에 대해 분석해 본 것이다. 이를 위하여 본 대학의 교수, 재학생 및 졸업생을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 설문조사 결과와 기업의 공학교육에 대한 요구사항을 분석하여 공학소양교육 개선에 대한 기본 방향을 설정하였다. 즉, 수요자 중심 교육, 산업현장 적응력 제고, 문제 해결 능력 강화 및 공학 설계 능력 배양을 개선된 공학소양교육의 기본 방향으로 정립하였다.

제7차 교육과정을 이수한 공과대학 신입생의 학업성취도 연구 (A Study on the Academic Achievements of Engineering College Students Educated by the $7^{th}$ National Education Process)

  • The 7th National Education Process, implemented in 2004, features student-oriented, selective educational programs with a wide range of optional subjects. In 2005, reflecting this revised National Education Process, the College Scholastic Ability Test began allowing individual students to choose the subjects for examination they would like to take. As a result, the deviations of the college freshmen's academic achievements in some subjects have noticeably widened. This study shows academic abilities of the students on some subjects by comparing the results of 2008 College Scholastic Ability Test with that of the Basic Academic Ability Evaluation Test for freshmen in engineering college of Hongik university. Lastly, this paper presents some improvement plans in order to better accommodate students with academic achievement levels lower than what is expected by the university.

Eco-car Manufacturing Activities as Engineering Design Education Subject in Suzuka National College of Technology

  • "The engineering education program for environmental intention and value creation" has been executed from 2008 to 2010 in Suzuka National College of Technology, which program was promoted as "Good Practice for Education" by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Japan. "Eco-car project" is one of these practical ecology/environment education programs. The project's members have been learning and researching the environmental managements by the process of design, manufacturing, and assembly of solar car, highly effective fuel consumption car (Eco-run car), electric vehicle and fuel-cell car. Also this project was supported by some professional experts of the local industries and community. The students learned the actual industrial technique, the engineering management and the structure of local industries by this project. In this paper, the environmental intention engineering design education with local industry collaboration is introduced.
