  • In general, marine casualities take palace by the composite action of three elements such as waterway condition, vessel condition and man condition. One of the important characteristics of most marie casualties for small cargo vessels in maritime transportation of near-coastal and greater-coasting seas in that the same kind of casualities take place repeatedly in spite of the apprent causes, Because, it takes much time and effort for seamen to master waterway, vessel or operatin technique only to the practical and sensible level. In these days, with the development of our economy, our shiypping industry has grown and therefore the demand of marine officers has increased. This economic growth brought about undesirable situation like the evasion of seamen and frequent casualities of Korea vessels. These marine casualities are being caused mainly by the unskilfulness of operating technique as well as the bad waterway condition and ship's installation condition. Therefore, I conclude, in this paper, that the most efficient and economic preventing measures of marine casualities are seeking causes and removing them in advance under the close coperation system among all concerned parties.

  • It has been more than 11 years since The Journal of Contemporary Eastern Asia (ISSN 1684-629) was first launched in the year 2001. Since its launch, the Journal of Contemporary Eastern Asia (JCEA) has gone through several changes and developments, including a recent change in ownership. Now the JCEA is primary published by the Cyber Emotions Research Institute at YeungNam University, South Korea. In order to widen the journal's scope and readership, the Asia Triple Helix Society was also engaged as co-publisher. In this article, we detail these developments; particularly we will discus the journal's history, current status, and impact factor.

  • A method for weighing fruits without separating them from stem is proposed. The base of stem is fixed and a fruit or a cluster of fruits is forced to vibrate. The approximated vibration model is constructed by the use of Transfer Matrix Method. The natural frequency (w) in this model can be represented as a function of weight elements, and the length and stiffness of branch elements of stem. With this function, only w is possible to measure. However, several small weights whose weights are known are attached to weight elements in various combinations. From these equations, unknown parameters are determined so that the weight of each fruit can be obtained by a non-destructive method.

  • Drosophila Sog and vertebrate Noggin play important roles during development. They function as antagonists against BMP4 signaling and induce neural ectoderm during embryogenesis. They are also engaged in appendage formation by inhibiting BMP4 signaling during late development. To understand further functions of Sog, Supersog, which is a more potent form of Sog, and Noggin BMP4 antagonists during development, I performed the molecular genetic analysis using Drosophila embryogenesis and wing formation as assay systems. In cellular blastoderm embryos, Sog inhibited Dpp signaling, Drosophila BMP4 signaling, whereas Supersog or Noggin did not block Dpp signaling. During wing formation, Sog inhibited Sax type I receptor of Dpp signaling whereas Noggin inhibited Tkv type I receptor of Dpp signaling. However, Supersog inhibited both Sax and Tkv type I receptors. These results suggest that functions of BMP4 antagonists are developmental stage dependent and indicate that each BMP4 antagonist inhibits BMP4 signaling by blocking different BMP4 receptors.

  • Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a safe, noninvasive and useful technique for exploring brain function. Especially, for the study of cognition, the technique can modulate a cognitive performance if the targeted area is engaged, because TMS has an effect on cortical network. The effect of TMS can vary depending on the frequency, intensity, and timing of stimulation. In this paper, we review the studies with TMS targeting various regions for evaluation of cognitive function. Cognitive functions, such as attention, working memory, semantic decision, discrimination and social cognition can be improved or deteriorated according to TMS stimulation protocols. Furthermore, potential therapeutic applications of TMS, including therapy in a variety of illness and research into cortical localization, are discussed.

  • The present writer have been engaged in research the Karst topography of Korea from the 1950's. Especially, I have studiedthe hollows indicated on topographical maps(1:5,000, 1:50,000) in library side by side with field survey. As the side by side with field survey. As the result, I came to a conclusion that all the hollows in limestone area are not always dolines. Based on case study, I classified the hollow landforms into 10 groups as follow. 1) Solution hollow 2) Volcanic hollow 3) Desertic hollow 4) Structural hollow 5) Meteoric hollow 6) Limnoic hollow 7) Minal hollow 8) Artificial hollow 9) Bursted hollow 10) Compound hollow I am asking advices of you all.

  • A costume study is a part of the cultural history and also has the greatest relation to life's senses as a concrete culture. Korean costume that consists a double structure with Chinese one through Chosun Dynasty five hundred years, has recently changed up to the Western Form. In this respect Korean Costume has a important meaning in relation to Western costume. Traditional costume, generally speaking, has tendency to keep up by the common people than the higher classes. Then there were four classes. They are aristocratic classes common people, those who are engaged in the form, industry, trade and low classes. Merchant of them partially took charge of the cultural exchange about contacting with tradition and new one. Because it's easy to flow in one's character the new civilization. So there is an important significance to research of the merchant's costume in Gae Hwa Gi changing age of civilization in politics, economic, and social system. The records appeared about the merchant's costume in the age of civilization through literature study and natural photo at that time.

  • Copying of designs has been condoned in the fashion industry. However, the industry argues that whether fashion design should be protected by law and what constitute design copying in fashion. This study has been performed by in-dept interviews with employees in the fashion industry. The study finds that respondents perceived copying of design to be some extent beneficial to the industry. While, they also observed that it has a negative effect on the industry due to indiscriminate copying. In regards to standard of drawing the line between copying and inspiration or modification, designers have subjective and discrepant standards. Fashion industry itself, consumer's biased preference, inefficient education and lack of legislation are significantly engaged in design copying.

  • Purpose: This study explored experiences of mothers caring for children with precocious puberty. Methods: Q-methodology was used for analyzing individual subjectivity. Seventy Q-statements were selected and scored by 50 participants on an 11-point scale. The collected data were analyzed using the PC QUANL program. Results: The following eight types of care experiences of mothers of children with precocious puberty were identified: Type I-1: hypersensitive and best-result oriented, Type I-2: treatment burden, Type II-1: treatment-oriented, Type II-2: self-blame, Type III-1: accepting and compliant, Type III-2: treatment confused, Type IV-1: serious and engaged, and Type IV-2: naturalism-oriented. Conclusion: These results can help develop specific education programs based on types of care experiences for the promotion of care among mothers of children with precocious puberty.

  • A method to visualize human body is proposed for various human pose. The method affords three 3D-styles of the same body: firstly, one which wares clothes specified from pattern of dresses, second, body shape, lastly bone structure of body. For this objective, standard body data are prepared which is constructed from CT images. Individual body is measured by 3D body scanner. The present status of our research is limited to offer still images, though we are engaged to accommodate various poses.
