  • The one way fluid structure interaction analysis on advanced propeller blade for next generation turboprop aircraft. HS1 airfoil series are selected as a advanced propeller blade airfoil. Adkins method is used for aerodynamic design and performance analysis with respect to the design point. Adkins method is based on the vortex-blade element theory which design the propeller to satisfy the condition for minimum energy loss. propeller geometry is generated by varying chord length and pitch angle at design point. Blade sweep is designed based on the design mach number and target propulsion efficiency. The aerodynamic characteristics of the designed Advanced propeller were verified by CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamic) and showed the enhanced performance than the conventional propeller. The skin-foam sandwich structural type is adopted for blade. The high stiffness, strength carbon/epoxy composite material is used for the skin and PMI(Polymethacrylimide) is used for the foam. Aerodynamic load is calculated by computational fluid dynamics. Linear static stress analysis is performed by finite element analysis code MSC.NASTRAN in order to investigate the structural safety. The result of structural analysis showed that the design has sufficient structural safety. It was concluded that structural safety assessment should incorporate the off-design points.

  • This study was purposed and performed to evaluate removal efficiency of non-point source pollution in the process and system based on bio-retention design criteria regulated by EPA. Basic Column Reactors (BCR) were prepared for optimal determinations of inflow rate of first rainfall runoff and composition and ratio of soil layers. Removal efficiencies of non-point source pollution from synthetic runoff and real first rainfall runoff, directly sampled from motor way and parking lot, were analyzed, respectively. Removal efficiency of SS, BOD, COD, T-N, and T-P were all shown to be more than 80%.

  • Environmentally benign lead-free solder coated ribbon (e. g. SnCu, SnZn, SnBi${\cdots}$) has been intensively studied to interconnect cells without lead mixed ribbon (e. g. SnPb) in the crystalline silicon(c-Si) photovoltaic modules. However, high melting point (> $200^{\circ}C$) of non-lead based solder provokes increased thermo-mechanical stress during its soldering process, which causes early degradation of PV module with it. Hence, we proposed low-temperature conductive paste (CP) based tabbing method for lead-free ribbon. Modules, interconnected by the lead-free solder (SnCu) employing CP approach, exhibits similar output without increased resistivity losses at initial condition, in comparison with traditional high temperature soldering method. Moreover, 400 cycles (2,000 hour) of thermal cycle test reveals that the module integrated by CP approach withstands thermo-mechanical stress. Furthermore, this approach guarantees strong mechanical adhesion (peel strength of ~ 2 N) between cell and lead-free ribbons. Therefore, the CP based tabbing process for lead free ribbons enables to interconnect cells in c-Si PV module, without deteriorating its performance.

  • SSDs that are not allowed in-place update within the allocated page cause another allocation of a new page that will replace the previous page at the moment data modification occurs. This intrinsic characteristic of SSDs requires many changes to the existing HDD-based IO theory. In this paper, we conduct a performance comparison of FTL caching strategy in perspective of cache hashing (Global vs. grouped) and caching algorithm (LRU vs. NUR) through a simulation. Experimental results show that in terms of energy consumption for flash operation the grouped management of cache is not suitable and NUR algorithm is superior to LRU algorithm. In particular, we found that the cache hit ratio of LRU algorithm is about 10% point higher than that of NUR algorithm while the energy consumption of LRU algorithm is about 32% high.

  • This study presents an experimental work in a petrochemical company for scanning a buried pipeline using $Tc^{99m}$ radiotracer based on the measured velocity changes, in order to determine the flow reduction along a pipeline. In this work, $Tc^{99m}$ radiotracer was injected into the pipeline and monitored by sodium iodide scintillation detectors located at several positions along the pipeline. The flow velocity has been calculated between every two consecutive detectors along the pipeline. Practically, six experiments have been carried out using two different data acquisition systems, each of them being connected to four detectors. During the fifth experiment, a bypass was discovered between the scanned pipeline and another buried parallel pipeline connected after the injection point. The results indicate that the bypass had a bad effect on the volumetric flow rate in the scanned pipeline.

  • Exposure to gamma-rays is hazardous for humans and other living beings because of their high penetration through the materials. For this reason, shielding materials (usually lead, copper and stainless steel) are used to protect against gamma rays. This study's objective was to prepare ceramic materials for gamma radiation shielding by using different natural bentonite clays. Gamma-ray attenuation performances of the prepared shielding materials at different thicknesses were investigated and evaluated for different gamma-ray energies from different standard point gamma radiation sources (251Am, 57Co, 137Cs, 60Co, and 88Y). The mass and linear attenuation coefficients of the prepared ceramics vary between 0.238 and 0.443 cm2 g-1 and between 0.479 and 1.06 cm-1, respectively, depending on their thicknesses. Results showed that these materials could be prioritized because of their evidential properties of gamma radiation protection in radiation applications.

  • This article aims to optimize the nitrogen removal of a sequencing batch reactor (SBR) through the use of the activated sludge model and iterative dynamic programming (IDP). Using a minimum batch time and a maximum nitrogen removal for minimum energy consumption, a performance index is developed on the basis of minimum area criteria for SBR optimization. Choosing area as the performance index makes the optimization problem simpler and a proper weighting in the performance index makes it possible to solve minimum time and energy problem of SBR simultaneously. The optimized results show that the optimal set-point of dissolved oxygen affects both the total batch time and total energy cost. For two different influent loadings, IDP-based SBR optimizations suggest each supervisory control of batch scheduling and set-point trajectory of dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration, and can save 20% of the total energy cost, while meeting the treatment requirements of COD and nitrogen. Moreover, it shows that the re-optimization of IDP within a batch can solve the modelling error problem due to the influent loading changes, or the process faults.

  • Cooperative effects of Rh, Ce and Zr added to Fe-based oxide mediums were investigated using temperature programmed redox reaction (TPR/TPO) and isothermal redox reaction in the view point of hydrogen storage and release. As the results of TPR/TPO, Rh was a sale additive to remarkably promote the redox reaction on the medium as evidenced by the lower highest peak temperature, even though its addition was to accelerate deactivation of the mediums due to sintering. On the other hand, Ce and Zr additives played an important role to suppress deactivation of the medium in repeated redox cycles. The medium co-added by Rh, Ce and Zr (FRCZ) exhibited synergistic performance in the repeated isothermal redox reaction, and the amount of hydrogen produced in the water splitting step at 623 K was highly maintained at ca. $17\;mmol{\cdot}g^{-1}-Fe$ during three repeated redox cycles.

  • Recently, wireless power transfer (WPT) via coupled magnetic resonances has attracted a lot of attention owing to its long operation distance and high efficiency. However, the WPT systems is over-coupling and a frequency splitting phenomenon occurs when resonators are placed closely, which leads to a decrease in the transfer power. To solve this problem, an adaptive frequency tracking control (AFTC) was used based on a closed-loop control scheme. An improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm was proposed with the AFTC to track the maximum power point in real time. In addition, simulations were carried out. Finally, a WPT system with the AFTC was demonstrated to experimentally validate the improved PSO algorithm and its tracking performance in terms of optimal frequency.

  • This paper investigates the energy efficiency of energy harvesting (EH) bidirectional cooperative sensor networks, in which the considered system model enables the uplink information transmission from the sensor (SN) to access point (AP) and the energy supply for the amplify-and-forward (AF) relay and SN using power-splitting (PS) or time-switching (TS) protocol. Considering the minimum EH activation constraint and quality of service (QoS) requirement, energy efficiency is maximized by jointly optimizing the resource division ratio and transmission power. To cope with the non-convexity of the optimizations, we propose the low complexity iterative algorithm based on fractional programming and alternative search method (FAS). The key idea of the proposed algorithm first transforms the objective function into the parameterized polynomial subtractive form. Then we decompose the optimization into two convex sub-problems, which can be solved by conventional convex programming. Simulation results validate that the proposed schemes have better output performance and the iterative algorithm has a fast convergence rate.
