Characteristics of Electron Beam Extraction in Large Area Electron Beam Generator

  • A large area electron beam generator has been developed for industrial applications, for example, waste water cleaning, flue gas treatment, and food pasteurization. The operational principle is based on the emission of secondary electrons from the cathode when ions in the plasma contact the cathode, which are accelerated toward the exit window by the gradient of the electric potential. Conventional electron beam generators require an electron beam scanning mechanism because a small area thermal electron emitter is used. The electron beam of the large area electron beam generator does not need to be scanned over target material because the beam area is considerable. We have fabricated a large area electron beam generator with peak energy of 200keV, and a beam diameter of 200mm. The electron beam current has been investigated as a function of accelerating voltage and distance from the extracting window while its radial distribution in front of the extracting window has been also measured.

  • There have been proposed two types of low bit rate vocoder upto now : One is MBE type using the spectrum modeling and another is CELP type using the hybrid coding method. CELP type vocoder has mainly studied between them. Specially, much of intensity is concentrated in CELP vocoder due to the emergence of Internet Phone and PCS in a domestic. In order to improve the speech quality in CELP vocoder, in this paper, we proposed a new spectrum analysis algorithm with variable window. In CELP vocoder, the spectrum of the synthesised speech signal is distorted because the fixed size windows is used for spectrum analysis. So we have measured the spectral leakage and in order to minimize the spectral leakage have adjusted the window size. Applying this method G.723.1 ACELP, we can get SD(Spectral Distortion) reduction 0.084(dB), residual energy reduction 6.3% and MOS(Mean Opinion Score) improvement 0.1.

  • 본 논문은 802.15.4에서 CW(Contention Window)에 따른 성능과 에너지 소비량을 분석한다. 기존 연구에서는 802.15.4 표준안의 성능과 에너지 소비량을 분석하고, CW나 BE(Backoff Exponent)와 같은 변수를 변화시켜 시뮬레이션만으로 성능과 에너지 소비량을 비교하여 분석하였으나, 본 논문은 CW에 따른 성능과 에너지 소비량을 마코프 체인(Markov Chain)을 이용하여 수학적으로 분석을 하였다.

  • To reduce the building energy consumption, the major advanced nations are conducting actively many researches on so called a "self-sufficient building(or other words zero energy building)" which can support its required energy by itself. Given this background, KIER(Korea Institute of Energy Research) built full size test-bed of the zero energy solar house in early 2002, and has studied on the self-sufficient heating load up to now. We analyse the sensitivity between the heating load and the solar radiation gain according to the change the effective transmittance of windows. The authors classified 9 cases by solar transmittance of glass. The results demonstrate the solar radiation amount is 0.466 MWh from the eastern zone of Fl.,1(the first floor), 0.332 MWh from Fl.,2(the second floor), 1.194 MWh form the southern zone of F1., and 0.822 MWh from the southern zone of Fl.,2 on the case 1(each cases are classified by window types). On the case 9, the solar radiation amount is 3.127 MWh, 2.662 MWh, 8.799 MWh and 6.078 MWh from the same condition. For the Fl.,1, the amount of Heat Load that is saved per year ranged 10.5 to 48 %, and the reduction was anywhere from 0.2 to 17.9% for Fl.,2

  • Identification of a steady state is the first step in developing a fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) system of a heat pump. In a complete FDD system, the steady-state detector will be included as a module in a self-learning algorithm, which enables the working system's reference model to "tune" itself to its particular installation. In this study, a steady-state detector of a residential air conditioner based on moving windows was designed. Seven representative measurements were selected as key features for steady-state detection. The optimized moving-window size and the feature thresholds were decided on the basis of a startup-transient test and no-fault steady-state test. Performance of the steady-state detector was verified during an indoor load-change test. In this study, a general methodology for designing a moving-window steady-state detector for applications involving vapor compression has been established.

  • To the development of construction techniques and construction of glass-walled structure is generalized. Existing wall to support the role of the vertical load was lose.   • Increasing of the demand for energy savings for buildings, thermal barrier films have more attracted. In particular, as heat loss through the windows have been pointed out to major problems in the construction and automobile industries, the research is consistently conducted for improving the thermal blocking performance for windows. The main theory of the technology is reflect the infrared rays to help the cut off the inflow of the solar energy in summer and outflow of the heat from indoors in winter to save the energy on cooling and heating. Furthermore, this is well known for prevent glare, reduces fading caused by harmful ultraviolet radiation and easy to apply on constructed buildings if it made as a film. In addition to these advantages, apply the transparent electrode to eliminate condensation by heating. Generally ITO is used as a transparent electrode, but is has a low stability in environmental factors. In this study, ITO and its alternative, ATO, is deposited by sputtering system and then the characteristic is evaluated each material based thermal barrier thin film. The optical property was measured on wide range of wavelength (200 nm 2500 nm) to know the transparency in visible wavelength and reflectivity in IR wavelength range. The electrical property was judged by sheet resistivity. Finally the changes of the temperature and current of the deposited film was observed while applying a DC power.

An Effective Algorithm for Transmitted Solar Radiation Calculation through Window Glazing on a Clear Day

  • The main objective of this study is to provide an effective algorithm of the transmitted solar radiation calculation through window glazing on a clear day. This algorithm would be used in developing a computer program for fenestration system analysis and shading device design. Various simulation methods have been evaluated to figure out the most accurate and effective procedure in estimation of transmitted solar radiation on a tilted surface on a clear day. Characteristics of simulated results of each step have been scrutinized by comparing them with measured results of the site as well as results from other simulation programs. Generally, the Duffie & Beckman's solar calculation method introducing the HDKR anisotropic model provided the most reliable simulation results. The DOE-2 program usually provided over-estimated simulation results. The estimation of extraterrestrial solar radiation and beam normal radiation were conducted pretty accurately. However, the solar radiation either on horizontal surface or on tilted surface involves complicated factors in estimation. Even though the estimation results were close to the real measured data during summer when solar intensity is getting higher, the estimation provided more error when solar intensities were getting weaker. The convex polygon clipping algorithm with homogeneous coordinates was fastest model in calculation of sunlight to shaded area ratio. It could not be applied because of its shape limitation.

  • A low energy large aperture(LELA) pulsed electron beam generator of a cold cathode type has been developed for environmental applications, for example, waste water cleaning, flue gas cleaning, and pasteurization etc. The operational principle is based on the emission of secondary electrons from cold cathode when ions in the plasma hit the cathode, which are accelerated toward exit window by the gradient of an electric potential. We have fabricated the LELA electron beam generator with the peak energy of 200keV and beam diameter of 200mm and obtained the large aperture electron beam in air. The electron beam current density has been investigated as a function of glow discharge current, accelerating voltage and radial distribution in front of the exit window foil. The plasma density and electron temperature have been measured in order to confirm the relation with the electron beam current density. We are going to upgrade the LELA electron beam generator in the electron energy, electron beam current and stability of operation for various applications.
