  • The algae biomass is considered as one of the potential sources of ocean renewable energy because it can be easily mass-produced with abundant sunshine in the vast ocean space. However, the practical use of the biomass has been hindered by the lack of efficient and cost-effective harvesting and maintenance system so far. The algae biomass aquaculture systems are installed in far offshore locations in much larger scales compared to the conventional aquaculture systems so that the automatic seaweed planting and harvesting system needs to operate in heavy sea conditions in far offshore location. In this research, we develop a concept design of a mega-scaled aquaculture system and an automatic seaweed planting and harvesting system, which can operate in heavy seas and mass-produce the algae biomass.

  • Development of high efficiency and eco-friendly LED source has been progressed continuously. Also, by nation's regulations, public institutions have changed existing luminaires to LED luminaires. However, there are several differences between existing luminaires and the intensity distribution of general planar LED luminaires. In case of changing existing luminaires to LED luminaires, by such differences, there are inefficiencies both quality aspect and energy aspect in luminous environment. Therefore, this study aims to conduct a study on the changes of intensity distribution and luminous environment by reflector shapes in indirect reflected LED luminaires with software for optical design of a luminaire (Photopia 2.0) and lighting design of a space (ReluxPro). This study shows the changes of intensity distribution and luminous environment of indirect reflected LED luminaires and indirect fluorescent lamp luminaires by reflector shapes.

  • Identifying structural modal parameters, especially those modes within high frequency range, from ambient data is still a challenging problem due to various kinds of uncertainty involved in vibration measurements. A procedure applying an ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) method is proposed for accurate and robust structural modal identification. In the proposed method, the EEMD process is first implemented to decompose the original ambient data to a set of intrinsic mode functions (IMFs), which are zero-mean time series with energy in narrow frequency bands. Subsequently, a Sub-PolyMAX method is performed in narrow frequency bands by using IMFs as primary data for structural modal identification. The merit of the proposed method is that it performs structural identification in narrow frequency bands (take IMFs as primary data), unlike the traditional method in the whole frequency space (take original measurements as primary data), thus it produces more accurate identification results. A numerical example and a multiple-span continuous steel bridge have been investigated to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • Reliability estimation methods using attribute data are widely used in reliability evaluation of various systems such as nuclear energy plants, food and drug, and space launch vehicles. This paper shows sensitivity analysis and comparison results of reliability estimation methods including a parametric estimation method in open literature with respect to both sample size and sampling points of time. And ways to improve accuracy of each reliability estimation method were proposed from the sensitivity analysis results.

  • The application of adaptive finite element method to dynamic problems is investigated. Both the kinetic and strain energy errors induced by space and time discretization were estimated in a consistent manner and controlled by the simultaneous use of the adaptive mesh generation and the automatic time stepping. Also an optimal ratio of spatial discretization error to temporal discretization error was discussed. In this study it was found that the best performance can be obtained when the specified spatial and temporal discretization errors have the same value. Numerical examples are carried out to verify the performance of the procedure.

  • This work presents some analytical and numerical results of a dynamic analysis of the dimensionless 2-D sheet flight equations. Two empirical models for aerodynamic forces and moments are used and compared. Results show that the initial condition of rest is always unstable, and for long times three distinct flight regimes are possible, depending on the initial angle of attack, the Tachikawa number, Ta (in fact, the parameter chosen was its inverse, ${\Omega}$), and a mass ratio ${\Phi}$. The final orbits in the velocity space and their maximum kinetic energy are compared with a theoretical asymptotic state of the motion equations, and some design considerations are proposed.

  • A time series simulation is presented by a ray approach for the simulating the received waveform of a broadband acoustical signals interacting with the ocean boundaries. The environment is assumed to be horizontally stratified, and the seafloor is described in terms of homogeneous fluid half-space. The ray approach includes the effects of reflection from the air-water, water-sediment interface and phase shifts due to boundaries interaction. To generate time series, we assume that the acoustic energy propagates from source to receiver along eigenrays and represent the action of the bottom on the incident wave by a linear filter and characterized in the frequency domain by the transfer function. As example application, the time series for an explosive source in a shallow water environment is calculated and analyzed in terms of acoustical process. good agreement with measured time series is demonstrated.

  • As wind farm outputs depend on natural wind resources that vary over space and time, spatial correlation analysis is needed to estimate power outputs of wind generation resources. As a result, geographic information such as latitude and longitude plays a key role to estimate power outputs of spatially distributed wind farms. In this paper, we introduce spatial correlation analysis to estimate the power outputs produced by wind farms that are geographically distributed. We present spatial correlation analysis of empirical power output data for the JEJU Island and ERCOT ISO (Texas) wind farms and propose the Correlation Decay Distance (CoDecDist) model based on geographic correlation analysis to enhance the estimation of wind power outputs.

This study is conducted through literatures and GBCC (Green Building Certification Criteria) review. Literatures cover the traditional characteristics of farming village and the modern characteristics of urban space today. The results are following as; first, Land Use, Environment, Resource and Energy are the most important green factors by literatures and GBCC. Second, traditional elements and natural elements such as history and culture, natural resource use and passive planning are added. Finally information communication is added as the green factor showed feature of modern society.

  • We investigated the damage effects of microcontroller devices under high power electromagnetic(HPEM) wave. HPEM wave was radiated from the open-ended standard rectangular waveguide(WR-340) to free space. The influence of different reset-, clock-, data-, and power supply-line lengths has been tested. The susceptibility of the tested microcontroller devices was in general much influenced by clock-, reset-, and power supply-line length, little influenced by data-line length. Further the line length was increased, the malfunction threshold was decreased as expected, because more energy couples to the devices. The surfaces of the destroyed microcontroller devices were removed and the chip conditions were investigated with microscope. The microscopic analysis of the damaged devices showed component and bondwire destructions such as breakthroughs and melting due to thermal effects.
