  • This paper proposes a novel design of enhanced auto light control system using PLC(Power Line Communication) and SMS(Short Message Service) to copy with emergent cases effectively. In the proposed system, the indoor sensing system is designed to send emergent messages to the users or system manager in case of fire or invasion, which may prevent secondary accident. In addition, data transmission using PLC may drastically decreases the number of lines. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed system.

  • Unmanned flying robots have been used recently in many difficult situations. One of the major issues in this area is the problem of how long these unmanned flying robots can perform a given task successfully. For this, the development of a light body and high-efficiency power supply has been executed widely, but we do not as yet have the complete solution. In this paper, we propose a form of Multi-Copter X8, which can transform into other types to further improve these problems. The proposed robot has a 3-type modification capability, which can produce a more enhanced energy saving effect by reducing power consumption.

  • In this study we have developed an anthropomorphic robot hand and arm by using tendon-tubes which can be used for people's everyday life as a robot's dynamic power transmission device. Most previous robot hands or arms had critical problem on dynamic optimization due to heavy weight of power transmission parts which placed on robot's finger area or arm area. In order to resolve this problem we designed light-weighted robot hand and arm by using tendon-tubes which were consisted of many articulations and links just like human's hand and arm. The most prominent property of this robot hand and arm is reduction of the weight of robot's power transmission part. Reduction of weight of robot's power transmission parts will allow us to develop energy saving and past moving robot hands and arms which can be used for artificial arms. As a first step for real development in this study we showed structural design and demonstration of simulation of possibility of a robot hand and arm by tendon-tube. In the future research we are planning to verify practicality of the robot hand and arm by applying sensing and controlling method to a specimen.

Analysis of In-cylinder Flow in a Miller Cycle Engine with Variable IVC for HEV (밀러사이클 적용 HEV 엔진 실린더의 가변흡기밸브 닫힘각에 따른 실린더내 유동해석)

  • For reduction of $CO_2$ emission emitted from combustion engine, the developed nations have been focused on R&D of hybrid electric vehicle. Further more, many automobile companies are researching on various techniques related to engine used in HEV to enhance fuel economy. One of key techniques is miller cycle that control a valve timing to reduce compression stroke for saving energy and increase expansion stroke for high power. In this study, it was investigated the in-cylinder flow characteristics of miller cycle with variable intake valve timing by using the ANSYS simulation code. For simulation, the key analytic parameter defined as intake valve closing timing and cam profile. As main results, it was shown that LIVC cause a lower pressure inside cylinder and had better control turbulence intensity.

  • For a long times it has been believed that the Magnus effect of the rotating cylinder could be utilized for the lifting devices applicable to marine practices. It has been reported that the rotating cylinder installed on upper deck of commercial vessel could play a energy saving role however the idea might be applicable in a very rare case in ship building practices. In this study special high lift rudder system equipped with the trailing edge rotor has been suggested in correspondence with the increasing requirement of greater rudder force. Through the numerical simulation it is cleared that the trailing edge rotor could play a role in enhancement of circulation and refinement of boundary layer of the rudder system. At the same time it is found out that the lift force of the rudder system without rotation of trailing edge rotor could be doubled when the circumferential velocity of the trailing edge rotor is equal to twice of the inflow velocity.

Hot Forging of an Engine Piston using Control Cooling (제어냉각 장치를 이용한 엔진피스톤 열간단조 공정에 관한 연구)

  • The piston engine is an essential component in automobiles. Since the piston is used in a high temperature and high pressure environment, the piston needs to be manufactured to achieve high strength and high durability. In addition, cost reduction is also an important consideration. In conventional forging, an additional heat treatment after hot forging is necessary to ensure proper mechanical properties for heavy-duty engine pistons. The newly developed manufacturing method lowers production costs by saving manufacturing time and reduces energy consumption. The current paper describes the hot forging of an engine piston made from 38MnSiVS5 micro-alloyed steel using controlled cooling. The finite element analysis was used to check for possible problems and suitable press capacity. Hot forging experiments were then conducted on a 2500tons crank press to evaluate feasibility of the proposed material and process. To check the mechanical properties after hot forging, the forged specimens were tensile tested, and the microstructures were examined in order to compare the results with the conventionally forged material. The skirt region of the as-forged 38MnSiVS5 piston showed better material properties compared to the conventional material. In addition, the total production time was reduced by about 80% as compared to conventional forging.

  • Due to the recent improvement of living standard of residential buildings, the requirements of the thermal comfort and energy saving in heating system have been raised. The radiant floor heating system has been widely used as a residential heating method, which has been modernized to use hot water running into the tubes embedded in the floor structure. The uniform flow distribution is very important factor for a radiant floor heating system such as a blood vessel system in human body. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the operating characteristics to develop an optimal radiant floor heating system. In this study, numerical analyses were carried out, using a commercial CFD code, FLUENT, to obtain the velocity distribution under steady, three-dimensional, standard k-$\varepsilon$ model and no-slip condition. Results are graphically depicted with various parameters.

The review of international forum on magnetic force control IFMFC activity from 2010

  • The Magnetic Force Control MFC technology is very useful because of its physical treatment process. Especially the Magnetic Separation MS technology is expected to contribute to SDGs 2030, Circular Economy and Carbon neutral 2050 realization. This paper describes the review of the IFMFC activity from 2010.The IFMFC is organized by three local committees of researchers in Japan, China and Korea. The IFMFC aims to exchange the information of the development results using the MFC technology and to educate the young researchers. The forum has been held in every year around three countries. In 2020 and 2021, the forum was organized by Zoom online due to the COVID-19. The 134 presentations were made up to 2020.The breakdown of these presentations are categorized to the environment remediation52%, material resource37% and fundamental research/technology11%. The Super Conducting Magnet SCM development promotes the MFC technologies. There are some impressive backgrounds as to the brilliant SM technology applications for many different magnetism ; SCM development, High Gradient Magnetic Separation HGMS, magnetic seeding method and magneto-Archimedes effect. This paper reviews the IFMFC activity according to those presented presentations.

  • Optimal efficiency control of synchronous reluctance motor(SynRM) is very important in the sense of energy saving and conservation of natural environment because the efficiency of the SynRM is generally lower than that of other types of AC motors. This paper is proposed a novel efficiency optimization control of SynRM considering iron loss using multi adaptive fuzzy learning controller(AFLC). The optimal current ratio between torque current and exciting current is analytically derived to drive SynRM at maximum efficiency. This paper is proposed an efficiency optimization control for the SynRM which minimizes the copper and iron losses. There exists a variety of combinations of d and q-axis current which provide a specific motor torque. The objective of the efficiency optimization control is to seek a combination of d and q-axis current components, which provides minimum losses at a certain operating point in steady state. The control performance of the proposed controller is evaluated by analysis for various operating conditions. Analysis results are presented to show the validity of the proposed algorithm.

  • The maximum demand controller is an electrical equipment installed at the consumer side of power system for monitoring the electrical energy consumed during every integrating period and preventing the target maximum demand (MD) being exceeded by disconnecting sheddable loads. By avoiding the peak loads and spreading the energy requirement the controller contributes to maximizing the utility factor of the generator systems. It results in not only saving the energy but also reducing the budget for constructing the natural base facilities by keeping thc number of generating plants ~ninimumT. he conventional MD controllers often bring about the large number of control actions during the every inteyating period and/or undesirable loaddisconnecting operations during the beginning stage of the integrating period. These make the users aviod the MD controllers. In this paper. fuzzy control technique is used to get around the disadvantages of the conventional MD control system. The proposed MD controller consists of the predictor module and the fuzzy MD control module. The proposed forecasting method uses the SOFM neural network model, differently from time series analysis, and thus it has inherent advantages of neural network such as parallel processing, generalization and robustness. The MD fuzzy controller determines the sensitivity of control action based on the time closed to the end of the integrating period and the urgency of the load interrupting action along the predicted demand reaching the target. The experimental results show that the proposed method has more accurate forecastinglcontrol performance than the previous methods.
