Design of Energy Model of Greenhouse Including Plant and Estimation of Heating and Cooling Loads for a Multi-Span Plastic-Film Greenhouse by Building Energy Simulation (건물에너지시뮬레이션을 활용한 연동형 온실 및 작물에너지모델 설계 및 이의 냉·난방부하 산정)

  • The importance of energy saving technology for managing greenhouse was recently highlighted. For practical use of energy in greenhouse, it is necessary to simulate energy flow precisely and estimate heating/cooling loads of greenhouse. So the main purpose of this study was to develope and to validate greenhouse energy model and to estimate annual/maximum energy loads using Building Energy Simulation (BES). Field experiments were carried out in a multi-span plastic-film greenhouse in Jeju Island ($33.2^{\circ}N$, $126.3^{\circ}E$) for 2 months. To develop energy model of the greenhouse, a set of sensors was used to measure the greenhouse microclimate such as air temperature, humidity, leaf temperature, solar radiation, carbon dioxide concentration and so on. Moreover, characteristic length of plant leaf, leaf area index and diffuse non-interceptance were utilized to calculate sensible and latent heat exchange of plant. The internal temperature of greenhouse was compared to validate the greenhouse energy model. Developed model provided a good estimation for the internal temperature throughout the experiments period (coefficients of determination > 0.85, index of agreement > 0.92). After the model validation, we used last 10 years weather data to calculate energy loads of greenhouse according to growth stage of greenhouse crop. The tendency of heating/cooling loads change was depends on external weather condition and optimal temperature for growing crops at each stage. In addition, maximum heating/cooling loads of reference greenhouse were estimated to 644,014 and $756,456kJ{\cdot}hr^{-1}$, respectively.

  • The fluid system such as, the quantity control of raw water, chemicals control in the purification, the waste water system as well as in the feed water or circulation system of the power plant and the ventilation system is controlled with the valve and moter pump. The system's performance and the energy saving of the fluid systems depend on control of method and delicacy. Until, PI controller use in these system but it cannot control delicately because of the coupling in the system loop. In this paper we configure a single flow system to the multi variable system and suggest the application of 2-DOF PID controller and the tuning methods by the neural network to the electrical power of the flow control system. the 2-DOF controller follows to a setpoint has a robustness against the disturbance in the results of simulation.   • In this paper, an adaptive scheme for network topology configuration is proposed to save the overall energy consumption in underwater acoustic sensor network. The proposed scheme employs a self-organized networking methodology where network topology is locally optimized by exchanging the energy-related information between neighboring nodes such as the remaining energy of each node, in a way that the network life time can be augmented without any centralized control function. Computer simulation is used to evaluate the proposed scheme comparing with LEACH in terms of the number of alive nodes after a given time, the deviation of individual nodes' residual energy and the energy consumption at the initialization and coordination stages.

  • The purpose of this study is to recognize the importance of sustaining the coal industry in spite of the declaration of new climate change regime. Due to the importance to have the ability to control the supply and demand for energy source, this study will present the ground supporting the need to save some fixed amount of coal to carry out this task. The relative quantity of fossil fuel like coal and oil consumed as an energy source is reduced due to the increasing portion of renewable energy sources. Nevertheless, we can verify the fact that the position as a main energy source in demand for and supply of electric power is still valid. And the optimal amount of coal storage is estimated through the average annual amount of demand derived from preceding studies. In this context, it is very urgent problem to maintain the coal industry as a industrial policy for the sustainable national economic growth through the coal storage policy and to determine the optimal amount of annual storage.

  • This study the efficiency of greenhouse gas reduction of 'low carbon car collaboration fund' and its alternative 'control of average fuel efficiency and greenhouse gas', and 'improving driving behavior' were analyzed by using LEAP, long term energy analysis model. Total 4 scenarios were set, baseline scenario, without energy-saving activity, 'low carbon car collaboration fund' scenario, 'fuel efficiency improving scenario', and 'improving driving behavior' scenario. The contents of analysis were forecast of energy demand by scenario and application as well as reduction of greenhouse gas emission volume, and the period taken for analysis was every 1 year during 2015~2030. Baseline scenario, greenhouse gas emission volume in 2015 would be 7,935,697 M/T and 13,081,986 M/T in 2030, increased 64.8%. The analysis result was average annual increase rate of 3.4%. The expected average annual increase rate of other scenarios was, 'low carbon car collaboration fund' scenario 1.7%, 'fuel efficiency improving' scenario 3.0%. and 'improving driving behavior' scenario 3.4%. and these were each 1.7%, 0.3%. 0.3% reduce from baseline scenario. The largest reduction was 'low carbon car collaboration fund' scenario, and there after were 'fuel efficiency improving scenario', and 'improving driving behavior' scenario.

Efficient Resource Allocation for Energy Saving with Reinforcement Learning in Industrial IoT Network

  • Industrial Wireless Sensor Network (IWSN) is a key feature of Industrial IoT that enables industrial automation through process monitoring and control by connecting industrial equipment such as sensors, robots, and machines wirelessly, and must support the strict requirements of modern industrial environments such as real-time, reliability, and energy efficiency. To achieve these goals, IWSN uses reliable communication methods such as multipath routing, fixed redundant resource allocation, and non-contention-based scheduling. However, the issue of wasting redundant resources that are not utilized for communication degrades not only the efficiency of limited radio resources but also the energy efficiency. In this paper, we propose a scheme that utilizes reinforcement learning in communication scheduling to periodically identify unused wireless resources and reallocate them to save energy consumption of the entire industrial network. The experimental performance evaluation shows that the proposed approach achieves about 30% improvement of resource efficiency in scheduling compared to the existing method while supporting high reliability. In addition, the energy efficiency and latency are improbed by more than 21% and 38%, respectively, by reducing unnecessary communication.

Channel Variation Tracking based Effective Preferred BS Selection Scheme of Idle Mode Mobile device for Mobile WiMAX System (Mobile WiMAX시스템에서 채널품질 변동추적을 이용한 유휴모드 이동단말의 효율적인 선호기지국 선택 방안)

  • In the wireless communication systems, the power consumption of a mobile device is very important issue due to its battery limitations. Hence most of the standards for wireless networks including a mobile WiMAX system are supporting their own power saving mode in way that a mobile device is able to reduce its energy usage while in the mode. However, those standards just define the arrangement of special time intervals, called a paging listening interval, during which the device needs to receive the paging-related control messages, and they do not specify how to effectively reduce the power in many different network environments. This means the amount of power spent by the device is very dependent on the implementations of individual device-vendors, and undesirable paging loss may happen according to the channel conditions. To reduce unnecessary power usage and the risk of paging loss, this paper proposes the effective frequency/BS selection algorithm applicable to a mobile device operating in the power saving mode, which serves the device with better BS based on the tracking for channel variation. This algorithm consists of the channel estimation phase during each paging listening interval, the tracking phase for the measured results, the frequency reselection phase based on the tracking activity, and the preferred BS reselection phase. Thus the proposed method can improve the paging performance while the device is moving in the network. Also the simulation result shows that the presented scheme is superior to other candidates in energy efficiency due to the channel-adaptive frequency/BS selection.

  • The paper deals with a approach to underwater acoustic based Ad-hoc communication, which allows major design strategies for Media Access Control (MAC) within a group of the autonomous underwater vehicles(AUV). The proposed MAC aims at deploying AUV-centric star topology, which minimizes overhead of sensor nodes and improves energy-efficiency. Furthermore, that is also well under long and unknown propagation delays of the underwater acoustic medium. The implemented MAC protocol makes it easier to achieve frame synchronization than TDMA due to deploying localized schedule time, in addition to saving energy consumption by letting nodes sleep. It is also superior to MACA and MACAW in terms of propagation delay. This scalable centralized protocol has the potential to serve as a primer for development of MAC protocol for future underwater acoustic based ad-hoc networks.

  • Zinc oxide of hexagonal wurzite, is known as n-type semiconductor. It has a wide band gap energy of 3.37 eV and large exciton binding energy of 60 meV. It can be widely applied to gas sensors, laser diodes, dye-sensitized solar cells and degradation of dye waste. The use of microwave hydrothermal synthesis brings a rapid reaction rate, high yield, and energy saving. Amine additives control the different particle shapes because of the chelate effect and formation of hydroxide ion. In this study, zinc nitrate hexahydrate was used as zinc precursor. In addition, ethanolamine, ethylenediamine, diethylenetriamine, and hexamethylenetetramine are used as shape control agent. The pH value was controlled as 11 by NaOH. The shapes of zinc oxide are star-like, rod, flower-like, and circular cone. In order to analyze physical, chemical, and optical properties of ZnO with diverse amine additives, we used XRD, SEM, EDS, FT-IR, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and PL spectroscopy.

Optimization Power Management System for electric propulsion system (전기추진시스템용 OPMS 기법 연구)

  • The stability of the propulsion system is crucial for the autonomous vessel. Multiple power generation and propulsion systems should be provided for the stability of the propulsion system. High power generation capacity is calculated for stability, resulting in economical decline due to low load operation. To solve this problem, we need to optimize the power system. In this paper, an OPMS for electric propulsion ship is constructed. The OPMS consists of a hybrid power generation system, an energy storage system, and a control load system. The power generation system consists of a dual fuel engine, the energy storage system is a battery, and the control load system consists of the propulsion load, continuous load, intermittent load, cargo part load and deck machine load. The power system was constructed by modeling the characteristics of each system. For the experiment, a scenario based on ship operation was prepared and the stability and economical efficiency were compared with existing electric propulsion ships.
