  • The cement industry is one of the rapidly growing industry in Ethiopia. The average per capita cement consumption of the country has increased from 39kg to 62kg. However, this is still way below than the global average per capita consumption of 500kg. The Ethiopian government is planning to expand its cement industry by upgrading the current cement plants and also opening of new cement plants in order to meet the future demand of the country. Currently, the number of cement plants in Ethiopia has reached to 20. By the year 2025, per capita cement consumption is expected to increase to 179kg. Recently, Ethiopia has become one of Africa's largest market for the cement industry. In addition, Ethiopia has become the major exporter of cement in the Sub-Saharan African region. The Ethiopian cement industry is highly dependent on the use of imported energy sources for its production. This situation has a significant amount of impact on the high production costs of the industry. This paper will try to review the history, production, available resources, the technologies and energy use of the Ethiopian cement industry.

  • The industrial growth and the raised living quality have led to the massive energy consumption. As a result. the polluted environment and the limited amount of energy resources emerged as serious problems to be resolved in 21st century. Especially, in the case of Korea whose imported energy dependency rate is 98.2$\%$ in 2003 and constantly increasing every rear. more than 24$\%$ of overall energy consumption is for housing and commercial use. In order to cope with the shortage of natural energy resources, it is inevitable to develop alternative sustainable energy resources including seawater heat. so that they can replace existing resources. The heat transfer air velocity 3.5 m/s is proper to consideration with the body the pipe size 200A is more suitable than look due to the air velocity quantify and the ratio of pipe surface area. And the error between experimental data with simulation is below 5.34$\%$ so the suggested equation for calculating heat transfer capacity can be used. Therefore out of many methods utilizing seawater heat. this work Presents the efficiency of using sea water heat as a resource for air-conditioners which can be converted from the outside air through the air-to-heat conversion tube . Consequently. this method provides pretty reasonable energy efficiency.

  • Korea is a nation with poor natural resources. There is a greats need to save resources that are running out in fast face. The purpose of this thesis is to bind the means to save rosources in housing site, especially in highrise apartment. The reason why the high-rise apartments are chosen as a case is 7hat the high-rise is becoming the major form of dwelling in most urban areas. As a tool of saving the ecological way is chosen because ecological energy is free, clean and unlimited. The resources to be saved are divided into two categories, namely energy and non - energy resources as water, land and food. The contents of the thesis are comprised of 4 chapters. The early chaspters are devoted to the understanding of the ecosystem and problems of current energy consumption in the apartment. It is fellowed by the introduction of the hypothesis that can possibly save reouruces. The hypothesis are then transformed into the actual theories through verification, to be established as the new techniques of the site planning. The ecosystem is the functional relationship between the living organisms and their physical surroundings. The living organisms are the plants that produce, animals that consume and bacterias that decompose. They live in the environment which consists of the three worlds of atmosphere, hydrosphere and lithosphere. The whole system is activated by the solar energy that turns the inorganic mallet- into the living organism and back to the inorganic. It is the recycling principle of the ecosystem. The elements of ecosystem that fan be unilimited as the tools of resources -saving are the sun, wind, water, soil, plant and waste. They are unlimited sources of energy. free of pollution and cheap in price. Each of these ecological elements Provide the opportunities that can save the heating fuel, air conditioning energy, water resource, land and food. The ecological approch should be pursued actively in this age of short resources and growing pollution. In the scale of total energy consumption the housing takes the second position next to the industrial use. It is followed by the transportation which shows for less consumption than former two.

  • Reasonable usage methods of energy resources, which are limited for human beings to use, consists of new & renewable energy (NRE) and demand side management (DSM). All technologies and policies for energy resources are classified into two fields, methods for using new energy resources and methods for using conventional fuel energy resources. Various development activities for these fileds have been implemented and various subsidy programs have been operated to penetrate into markets rapidly. These subsidy programs have various types of subsidy by energy resources and programs and the budget are funded by government, which is called Electric Power Industry Basis Fund and is managed considering technology level, economic analysis, global environment, etc. These subsidy programs are managed by Korea Energy Management Corporation (KEMCO) for NRE and by Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) for DSM, the management are different among two corporations because the purposes and features of establishment are different though these are all public organization. KEMCO is managing the NRE subsidy programs according to the government will, while the management of KEPCO subjects to power system operations though the government will for DSM is considered. NRE which is on the initial phase of diffusion would not affect on power system seriously but the affects could be grown when the diffusion and importance are expanded. Hence some integrated affection analyses considering NRE and DSM are required and this paper shows the concept of integrated operation strategies with ground source heat pump systems which are related with two fields simultaneously.

  • Through time-series plots, we can see relatively stable trend of energy factor share and the decreasing trend of relative energy prices (to wages) in Korea. We can compromise these empirical facts with the following explanation: if elasticity of substitution between capital and energy is smaller than one(<1) in Korea, a change(decrease) in energy price can prevent income share of resources from rising in the process of economic growth. This is consistent with theoretical and empirical results that substitution between energy and capital is so difficult. From simple empirical analysis and limited information, we can carefully infer that, in the past in Korea, resource-specific innovation was performed widely. Finally, If we are to reduce the magnitude of "growth drag", we should decrease energy factor share. This can be accomplished by energy-augmenting technical progress in the case of elasticity of substitution less than 1 as in Korea.

  • Indigenous energy resources available in Korea are limited to the three major resources such as Korean anthracite, hydraulic potential and wood and straws. As reported in various reports concerning energy problem in Korea, unfortunately these three major resources are not only poor in quality but also limited in quantity. The amount of energy to be imported, which will be increased at a considerably high rate by years due to the shortage in the supply by domertic sources against the demand, is studied in the view-pint of sound and logical energy dependence upon the external sources. What would occur, if the imported energy would be exclusively limited to an energy source only, has an enough reason to be paid a significant consideration. As a result, the feasibility is discarded in favour of nuclear power plants after an extensive prospect for electric power development plan covering more than coming thirty years, i.e., up to the year of 2,000 A.D. In briefing, this paper indicates that a measures to accomodate as large amount of nuclear power plants as possible in the electric power system is not only inevitable for a sound solution of the severe energy problem with which Korea is to be confronted but also leads to the national benefit.

  • Solar energy, which is one of renewable energy, would be the most useful resources that can be applied to making energy recycling villages without using fossil energy. This study analyzed energy potential on solar energy considering weather condition in three traditional villages and compared with energy consumption surveyed. A photovoltaic system having 3.0kWp capacity of unit module can generate 182.5%, 96.1% and 170.9% of the yearly mean consumption of electric power in Makhyun, Boojang, and Soso, respectively. A flat-plate solar collector having $2.64m^2$ area of unit module can generate warm water of $142{\ell}$/day, $89{\ell}$/day, and $173{\ell}$/day, respectively in three study villages. In Makhyun and Soso, photovoltaic power and warm water produced by solar energy were sufficient to supply required amount of electric power and warm water. However, both electric power and warm water produced by unit solar module were not sufficient in Boojang area, and so it is required to increase the module area by more than 50%. According to the results of this study, the appropriate combination of energy resources can be applied to rural green-village planning if the characteristic of energy potential for each local area is considered.
