Background reduction by Cu/Pb shielding and efficiency study of NaI(TI) detector

  • The background spectrum of a $3^{{\prime}{\prime}}{\times}3^{{\prime}{\prime}}$ NaI(Tl) well-type scintillation SILENA detector was measured without shielding, in 6 cm thick lead shielding, and with 2 mm thick electrolytic copper covering the detector inside the lead shielding. The relative remaining background of the lead shield lined with copper was found to be ideal for low-level environmental radioactive spectroscopy. The background total count rate in the (20-2160 KeV) was reduced 28.7 times by the lead and 29 times by the Cu + Pb shielding. The effective reduction of background (1.04) by the copper mainly appeared in the energy range from X-ray up to 500 KeV, while for the total energy range the ratio is 1.01 relative to the lead only. In addition, a strong relation between the full-energy peak absolute efficiency and the detector well height was found using gamma-ray isotropic radiation point sources placed inside the detector well. The full-energy peak efficiency at a midpoint of the well (at 2.5 cm) is three times greater than that on the detector surface. The energy calibrations and the resolution of any single energy line are independent of the locations of the gamma source inside or outside of the well.

적응적 전송률 기법을 이용한 이더넷에서 트래픽 패턴이 에너지 절약률 및 지연 시간에 미치는 영향 (Impact Analysis of Traffic Patterns on Energy Efficiency and Delay in Ethernet with Rate Adaptation)

  • 최근 녹색 IT(Green IT)에 대한 관심이 증가하면서 많은 연구자들이 적응적 전송률(Rate adaptation)을 이용한 에너지 효율적 이더넷(Energy Efficient Ethernet: EEE)에 관심을 보이고 있다. 그러나 적응적 전송률은 트래픽 패턴에 따라 다른 에너지 효율성 및 전송률 변화에 따른 지연 시간의 편차를 보일 수 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 적응적 전송률 기법을 이용한 이더넷에서 트래픽 패턴이 에너지 절약 및 지연 시간에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 이를 위하여 OPNET Modeler를 이용하여 다양한 트래픽 패턴 생성을 위한 포아송(Poisson) 프로세스 기반 및 파레토(Pareto) 분포 기반의 ON-OFF 트래픽 생성 모델과 적응적 전송률을 이용한 이더넷 노드를 구현하여 시뮬레이터를 설계하였다. 구현된 시뮬레이터를 이용하여 총 전송률 변화 횟수, 전송율 절감, 에너지 절약율, 평균 큐 지연 시간 관점에서 시뮬레이션을 수행하고 그 결과를 분석하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과 적응적 전송률은 자기유사성을 갖는 IP 트래픽 패턴이 총 전송률 변화 횟수, 전송률 절감 및 에너지 절약율에 영향을 미침을 확인할 수 있었으며 높은 전송률 변화로 인한 오버헤드의 발생을 보였다.

  • In this paper, the performance analysis of condensation and evaporation capacity, turbine work and efficiency of the OTEC power system using vapor-liquid Ejector is presented to offer the basic design data for the operating parameters of the system. The working fluid used in this system is $CO_2$. The operating parameters considered in this study include the vapor quality at heat exchanger outlet, pressure ratio of ejector and inlet pressure of low turbine, mass flow ratio of separator at condenser outlet. The main results were summarized as follows. The efficiency of the OTEC power cycle has an enormous effect on the mass flow ratio of separator at condenser outlet. With a thorough grasp of these effects, it is possible to design the OTEC power cycle proposed in this study.

  • 가압 조건하에서의 석탄가스화 특성을 규명하기위해 , 온도 압력 , 산소/석탄비, 수증기/석탄비 등을 변화시켜가며 로토탄(sub A)에 대하여 PDTF(Pressuized drop tube furnace)실험을 수행하였다. 실험결과, 상압 조건에서보다 가압조건에서의 가스화가 탄소전환율과 냉가스효율의 측면에서 더 유리한 것으로 측정되었다. 최대의 냉가스효율을 보이는 산소/석탄비의 증가가 냉가스효율의 증가를 가져왔다. 압력이 증가할수록 열분해에 의한 탄소전환의 비중은 감소하고 대신 기고반응에 의한 탄소전환의 비중이 증가하였다.

  • This paper considered the energy saving problem of D.C. motor in arbitrary load condition. We can improve efficiency by maintaining the proper ratio of armature current/field current. First, the condition of maximizing the efficiency was obtained, and then the real time control was implemented by using microprocessors. As a result, the efficiency was improved in spite of constant output. For example, the efficiency at 1/5 load was improved from 56.7% to 80%.

  • To obtain thermal performance data, an experiment was performed with the two selected thermosyphon systems. The system parameters obtained by experimental data were used to perform TRNSYS simulation and verified TRNSYS model of thermosyphon solar hot water system. The thermosyphon solar hot water system was TYPE 145 which is modified from non-linear model. This model can describe heat exchange type and non-linear efficiency equation. It is possible to analyze the annual energy rate with efficiency equation and system specification. In this paper, we could compare the annual performance of the coil heat exchanger with that of the tank-in-tank heat exchanger. Under the same efficiency and parameter, heat exchange, drain, initial tank temperature, ratio of tank volume over collector area(V/Ac), regional annual performance rating were performed.

  • The purpose of study is obtaining low-emission and high-efficiency in LPi engine with hydrogen enrichment. The test engine was named variable compression ratio single cylinder engine (VACRE). The fuel supply system provides LPG/hydrogen mixtures based on same heating value. A varied sensors such as crank shaft position sensor (CPS) and hall sensor supplies spark timing data to ignition controller. Displacement of VACRE is $1858.2cm^3$. VACRE was runned 1400rpm with compression ratio 8. Spark timing was set MBT without knocking. Relative air-fuel ratio($\lambda$) of this work was varied between 0,8 and 1.5.

  • Since improved thermal efficiency reduces capacity requirements and energy costs, electricity producers often treat thermal efficiency as a measure of management or economic performance. The conventional measure of the thermal efficiency of a fossil-fuel generation system is the ratio of total electricity generation to the simple sum of energy inputs. As a refined approach, we present a novel thermal efficiency measure using the concept of the Divisia index number. Application of this approach to the Korean power sector shows improvement of thermal efficiency of 1.1% per year during 1970-1998. This is higher than the 0.9% improvement per year given by the conventional method. The difference is attributable to the effect of fuel substitution. In the Divisia decomposition context, we also show the limitations of the popular $T{\ddot{o}}rnqvist$ index formula and the superiority of the Sato-Vartia formula.

밀집 배열 부이시스템의 파랑에너지 추출 효율 추정 (Estimation of Wave Energy Extraction Efficiency for a Compact Array System of Small Buoys)

  • A compact array system of small buoys is used for wave energy extraction. To evaluate the performance of this system, hydrodynamic analysis is carried out in regular waves using the higher order boundary element method. The motion response of each buoy is calculated considering hydrodynamic interactions caused by other buoys. The effect of energy extraction device is modeled as a linear damping load. The efficiencies of energy conversion are compared using the various sizes and arrangements of the array system and the damping coefficients for energy extraction. The increase in size or the packing ratio of the system gives better efficiency. However, the wave condition and the cost for the system should be considered to optimize performance from the perspective of engineering and economics. The proposed nondimensionalized damping coefficient for energy extraction is 0.1~0.5.

바이오매스 연료의 연소 특성 실험 (A Experiment of Combustion Behavior of Biomass Fuels)

  • There have been many studies of combustion in the circulating fluidized bed. However, little study is available for combustion of wood pellet together fed with wood chip. The mixed ratio of two fuels is an useful information when thermal power company would receive the Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard (RPS) from government. In this study, the combustion behavior and kinetics of such biomass fuels are evaluated using fluidized bed reactor and thermogravimetric analyzers. The mixing ratio of wood chip relative to wood pellet was varied at different temperatures. The results show that a combustion reactivity changed significantly at the wood chip mixing ratio of 40%, particularly at low temperature condition.
