  • The blast wave released during the initiation of energetic materials gives rise to pulse energy generation, characterized by a sudden increase of potential energy. A highly efficient energy source, sought from pulse-type lasers, may be utilized in various space propulsion and power applications. This paper introduces a scheme of utilizing the laser energy in 1) attitude control of a satellite requiring of a low thrust, 2) innovative laser-induced drug delivery, 3) implosion-based micro piston development, 4) deflecting and zapping of space debris for laser kill purpose, and 5) finally lunar detection using laser induced breakdown spectroscopy.

  • This study applied a laser cleaning method (dry cleaning) that is used for cleaning semiconductor elements to dental implant cleaning. The lasers used in this study were pulsed fiber lasers with wavelengths of 1,064 and 532 nm. The peak output, energy per pulse, energy density per pulse, time of pulse experiment, and number of pulse experiments served as process variables for this study, and the variables were changed for each experiment. As a result, a laser with a wavelength of 532 nm showed much higher cleaning efficiency than its 1,064 nm counterpart. As the wavelength range decreased, the quantized energy increased and the reflection rate of the titanium used for the implant decreased; consequently, the energy absorption rate increased. Therefore, it is proposed that the energy density by wavelength has a greater influence on cleaning than does the output size.

  • Radiation detection systems working at high count rates suffer from the overlapping of their output electric pulses, known as pulse pile-up phenomenon, resulting in spectrum distortion and degradation of the energy resolution. Pulse tail extrapolation is a pile-up correction method which tries to restore the shifted baseline of a piled-up pulse by extrapolating the overlapped part of its preceding pulse. This needs a mathematical model which is almost always nonlinear, fitted usually by a nonlinear least squares (NLS) technique. NLS is an iterative, potentially time-consuming method. The main idea of the present study is to replace the NLS technique by an integration-based non-iterative method (NIM) for pulse tail extrapolation by an exponential model. The idea of linear extrapolation, as another non-iterative method, is also investigated. Analysis of experimental data of a NaI(Tl) radiation detector shows that the proposed non-iterative method is able to provide a corrected spectrum quite similar with the NLS method, with a dramatically reduced computation time and complexity of the algorithm. The linear extrapolation approach suffers from a poor energy resolution and throughput rate in comparison with NIM and NLS techniques, but provides the shortest computation time.

  • A pulse generator of one stage magnetic pulse compression modulator was simulated by electromagnetic transients program (EMTP). The pulse generator was expected to generate ${\sim}80kV$ peak voltage, ${\sim}140ns$ pulse width and about $70{\sim}75%$ energy delivery efficiency from initial charge capacitor $(0.2{\mu}F)$ to dummy load $(25{\Omega})$. From this simulation, the scheme of pulse circuit could be estimated as a practically reasonable design.

  • An IGBT driver for serially connected pulse switching IGBTS was contructed and tested. The IGBT driver has ten output pulses with 1 ${\mu}ysec$ pulse width Its pulse repetition-rate can adjusted from 0 to 20 kHz. The output pulses was insulated from 10 kV high voltage by a pulse transformer. Their voltage amplitude are 18 V, voltage rising time 250 nsec., and voltage falling time 200 nsec when IGBT gates with 12 nF input capacitance are connected.

  • Enthalpy transport in a pulse tube was investigated by two-dimensional analysis of mass. momentum an energy equations of the gas as well as energy conservation of the tube wall. The mean temperature of the gas and the tube wall was obtained directly by assuming that the outer surface of a pules tibe wall is adiabatic. Axial profile of mean temperature is small. but it deviates significantly from linear profile when the dimensionless frequency is large. Effect of operating frequency. tube wall thickness, velocity ratio and velocity phase angle between both ends of a pulse tube on net enthalpy flow were shown.

  • A predictive pulse control strategy as a means of improving the energy efficiency of radiant floor heating systems is explored. Experiments at the apartment with floor heating system are conducted to assess and compare the energy performance of the predictive pulse control strategy with an existing conventional control strategy. The Results showed that new suggested PPCM( Predictive Pulse Control Method) was available to decrease the gap of $1{\sim}1.5^{\circ}C$ between maximum and minimum indoor temperature of each rooms. Therefore PPCM method was favor to radiant floor heating system which have a delay time of 10-20 minutes for heat transfer by floor layers.

  • In this paper, a resonant pulse power converter (RPPC) is proposed. The proposed RPPC transfers the pulse-shape power from a DC source to a load periodically. The RPPC consists of a resonant circuit and a resonant pulse converter driven by a self-switching circuit. Depending on the magnitude difference between the input and output voltages, the operations of the RPPC are divided into 4 modes; boost mode, hybrid mode, direct mode and cut-off mode, respectively. The main switch of the RPPC turns on in the ZCS condition and off in the ZVS condition spontaneously. The operational principles of a RPPC using the self-switching technique are analyzed and verified in experiments. An example of a RPPC application is demonstrated in the area of thermoelectric energy harvesting.

  • In this paper, proposed peak detector for the measurement of pulse radiation dose. The speed of the pulse radiation signal is the between a few ns and tens ns. Therefore, it is difficult to measure peak voltage. Peak Detector maintains the peak voltage generated from the sensor for a few ms and the converted signals can be easily measured using the ADC. The peak detector simulation results peak value remained of more than 1ms. Pulse radiation irradiation test results, a dose of $1.95{\times}10^6rad/s$ was measured.
