Temperature reduction in the manufacturing of asphalt mixtures is highly desirable from a number of aspects. Reduced fumes and emissions, and reduced energy consumption, are important environmental reasons to continue pursuing the goal of temperature reduction. There are important construction and performance advantages as well. For instance, improved workability results in better compaction; lower production and placement temperatures may improve prospects for cold weather paving; and lower temperatures will result in less binder aging and possibly better cracking resistance. The performance of WMA is not to be satisfied though there are various advantages. Therefore, more research is needed on a number of issues

MARKAL (MARKet ALlocation) Model, one of the most sophisticated energy technology assessment model is applied to finding the optimum mix of energy sources and evaluating energy technology competitiveness in Korea. The model is capable of handling Multiple Objective Linear Programming to test the related cost minimization and environmental control function. In this paper three environmental regulation scenarios are observed including 10% and 20% reduction of carbon dioxide emission level. For the purpose of establishing the basic data base, Korea Reference Engergy System is also developed on the base of the year 1989 with technology utilization and energy flow analysis.
A mixer with a new concept design has been adapted into water treatment plants. It reportedly cuts down the energy consumption of the mixer by the new mixer, which moves vertically and creates internal flows toward its bottom. However, no experimental observations have been made on the internal flow caused by a vertical impeller. In this study, a radiotracer experiment, radioactive particle tracking (RPT) technique, and particle image velocimetry (PIV) were carried out to visualize the flow in the mixer, and compared to each other. The results show that the flow patterns from these techniques are very similar to each other, and the performance of the mixer was good enough to mix the inner materials.
The purpose of the paper is to estimate the functions of the energy input efficiency and the energy intensity efficiency, and measure their energy efficiencies for the reduction of greenhouse gases focusing on OECD countries. The efficiency of the traditional energy intensity was rarely connected with the energy efficiencies of the stochastic frontier function. It seems that the energy efficiency by the function of energy input efficiency sensitively responds to the order of GDP, capital stock, labor, and energy input quantity as explanatory variables. In the future, we need to reduce energy quantities by the optimal mix of inputs, and pursuit low-carbon economic growth through the production of the goods consuming small energy.
After Fukushima incident, negative sentiment towards nuclear power has led to transition in policies that reduce the dependency on nuclear power in some countries. President Moon of Republic of Korea also announced a national plan of decommissioning retired nuclear power plants stage by stage. Therefore, nuclear power that once was considered the critical solution to energy security and climate change is now a limited option. This study aims to find an optimal energy mix in Korea's electricity system from 2016 through 2030 to combat climate change through energy transition with minimum cost. The study is divided into two different scenarios; energy transition and nuclear sustenance, to compare the total costs of the systems. Both scenarios show that electricity generated by wind technology increases from 2018 whereas that of photovoltaic(PV) increases from 2021. However, the total cost of the energy transition scenario was USD 4.7 billion more expensive than the nuclear sustenance scenario.
This study is to establish a national vision of the hydrogen economy and design a roadmap to materialize it. A goal is set to supply 15% of final energy consumption with hydrogen energy in Korea by 2040. Selecting the transportation sorter as the main target, more than 50% of vehicles on the road will be replaced with fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) while $20{\sim}30%$ of electricity demand in the residential and commercial sectors might be replaced with power generation by fuel cells. If this goals were attained as planned, primary energy demand would be reduced by 9%, resulting in improved energy mix in which fossil fuel consumption is greatly reduced whereas renewable energy increases by 47%. Furthermore, GHG emissions will be reduced by 20% and self-sufficiency in energy is enhanced up to 23%. If the hydrogen economy is to materialize, the government needs to implement institutional arrangements such as new legislations, organizations, and fiscal measures to facilitate the process. In addition, the private sector's participation is highly recommended to mobilize fund needed for the huge investment to build an infrastructure in preparation for the hydrogen economy. Arrangements for codes and standards are also required to promote industrialization of fuel cells and hydrogen production and consumption.

The public interest of global warming and energy shortage is gradually increased, and the related industries also have become interested in developing eco-friendly material and technology. Warm-mix asphalt (WMA) is a result of the developments to alleviate global warming and energy problems. This WMA is produced at lower temperatures than the temperature at which hot mix asphalt (HMA) is produced. Because most tests in Superpave are developed only for the performance and maintenance of HMA produced by hot temperatures, it is difficult for the tests to identify properly the material properties and then evaluate the performances between HMA and WMA. This study deals with the development of a new protocol to differentiate HMA and WMA performance, and especially the interfacial properties between asphalt and aggregate are targeted as the performance indicator; thus, an evaluation method and guideline are suggested. The concept and idea of the test method applied in this study were modified from the DSR moisture damage test protocol. In addition, TSR test was performed to affirm the relation between the asphalt-aggregate interface and the asphalt-aggregate mixture performances. The followings are the results of this study. Shear stress at 85% linear visco-elastic complex modulus (LVE $G^*$) can be a better parameter than LVE $G^*$, which can assess the interfacial or bonding performance between asphalt and aggregate. Moreover, measuring the bonding performance in thinner film thicknesses will be a better way to evaluate the real and field situation between asphalt and aggregate. The interfacial properties' criteria to apply the newly developed test and parameter should be developed, after the asphalt mixture criteria relating to the interfacial properties are completed.
This paper uses research on the Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE) in South Korea to conduct a simulation analysis on the impact of nuclear power dependency and usage rates on the social costs of power generation. We compare the $7^{th}$ basic plan for long-term electricity supply and demand, which was designed to increase nuclear power generation, to the $8^{th}$ basic plan for long-term electricity supply and demand that decreased nuclear power generation and increased renewable energy generation in order to estimate changes in social costs and electricity rates according to the power generation mix. Our environmental generation mix simulation results indicate that social costs may increase by 22% within 10 years while direct generation cost and electricity rates based on generation and other production costs may increase by as much as 22% and 18%, respectively. Thus we confirm that the power generation mix from the $8^{th}$ basic plan for long-term electricity supply and demand compared to the $7^{th}$ plan increases social costs of generation, which include environmental external costs.

The Saudi National Atomic Energy project aims to adopt peaceful nuclear technologies and be part of the country's energy mix. As emerging nuclear energy, it is essential to understand public concerns and acceptability of nuclear energy, as well as the factors influencing acceptance to develop nuclear energy policy and implement nuclear energy programs. The purpose of this study is to analyze the public attitudes and acceptance of nuclear energy among Saudi Arabian citizens by utilizing protection motivation theory and theory of planned behavior. A total of 1,404 participants answered a questionnaire which was distribute by convenience sampling approach. A Structural Equation Modeling framework was constructed and analyzed to understand public behavior toward building the country's first Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). Before analyzing the data, the model was validated. The research concluded that the benefits of nuclear power plants were essential in determining people's acceptance of NPPs. Surprisingly, the effect of the perceived benefits was found higher than the effect of the perceived risks to the acceptance. Furthermore, the public's participation in this study revealed that the NPPs location has a significant impact on their acceptance. Based on the finding, several policy implementations were suggested. Finally, the study's model results would benefit scholars, government agencies, and the business sector in Saudi Arabia and worldwide.
Purpose: Building owners or residents have concerns to strive for energy-saving and environmental conservation by utilizing with eco-friendlier energy resources for their physical environment. In this paper, an algae façade system is proposed as an energy-friendly building component to improve energy productivity and indoor environmental quality, and this study aims at verifying alternative technologies for implementing building elevations that contain various colors equipped with algae façade systems and suggesting design guidelines to enhance both building performance and design values. Method: The color of algae is basically ranged about the saturation green, and it is hardly converted to other variations. Such a problem can be resolved through the artificial lights like LED (Light Emitting Diode) lamps to mix the color from the algae and buildings could possibly change the elevation in many ways under the influence of daylight. Result: As a result, the suggested system may increase the aesthetic aspect of the building in response to environmental changes. The system cannot possibly be applied for only new construction, but also it can be utilized with the existing buildings as well. The proposed system is expected to be applied not only a new construction and any existing buildings as well, and it will cover from the environmentally friendly energy generation in the industry to a new application system for increasing energy efficiency and the beauty of building envelopes.
