  • It is very difficult to get stable ion peak intensity of ruthenium by thermal ionization mass spectrometry because of its high ionization potential and high volatility of its oxides which causes to lose much of ruthenium ions, so the intensity of the signal decrease quickly. Accordingly, a study was performed in oder to increase the ionization efficiency and to prevent sample losses due to volatilization and to check with isobaric effect by impurities in filament for the measurement of ruthenium isotopes. Both single filament and double filament were tested. The former was proved to be more efficient for the stable and strong intensity of signal and revealed less isobaric effect from the molybdenum (Mo) as a filament impurity. Also, when the temperature of filament increased too high, the isobaric effect from Mo greatly appeared. That is, Mo impurity from filament gave a serious effect for measuring the ruthenium isotopes. It was proved to be of importance that filament current should be slowly increased with time interval. Finally, ruthenium isotopes were accurately measured by correction with measuring $^{94}Mo/^{99}Ru$.

  • UV curing technology becomes important in various sectors of applications due to the high efficiency, environmental protection, and saving of energy. The effect of different proportion of vinylester (VE) and unsaturated polyester (UP) for VE/UP blend system was investigated in context of mechanical properties. The compositions of VE/UP blend were varied within 0:100, 20:80, 40:60, 60:40, 80:20, and 100:0 by weight percent. 1 wt% 1-hydroxy-cyclohexyl-phenyl-ketone was used as photoinitiator. The used intensity of UV light was in the range of $40~70 mW/\textrm{cm}^2$. The flexural strength of vinylester was not sensitive to the intensity of UV light. But the unsaturated polyester was very sensitive to the intensity of UV light. The flexural strength of vinylester was always superior to that of unsaturated polyester. The addition of the vinylester increased the flexural strength of blend system.

  • Purpose: To evaluate the effect of common three photon energies (6-MV, 10-MV, and 15-MV) on intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) plans to treat prostate cancer patients. Materials and Methods: Twenty patients with prostate cancer treated locally to 81.0 Gy were retrospectively studied. 6-MV, 10-MV, and 15-MV IMRT plans for each patient were generated using suitable planning objectives, dose constraints, and 8-field setting. The plans were analyzed in terms of dose-volume histogram for the target coverage, dose conformity, organs at risk (OAR) sparing, and normal tissue integral dose. Results: Regardless of the energies chosen at the plans, the target coverage, conformity, and homogeneity of the plans were similar. However, there was a significant dose increase in rectal wall and femoral heads for 6-MV compared to those for 10-MV and 15-MV. The $V_{20Gy}$ of rectal wall with 6-MV, 10-MV, and 15-MV were 95.6%, 88.4%, and 89.4% while the mean dose to femoral heads were 31.7, 25.9, and 26.3 Gy, respectively. Integral doses to the normal tissues in higher energy (10-MV and 15-MV) plans were reduced by about 7%. Overall, integral doses in mid and low dose regions in 6-MV plans were increased by up to 13%. Conclusion: In this study, 10-MV prostate IMRT plans showed better OAR sparing and less integral doses than the 6-MV. The biological and clinical significance of this finding remains to be determined afterward, considering neutron dose contribution.

  • A study on the ultrasonic effect for turbulence enhancement is carried out in the horizontal flow field of a coaxial circular pipe. A large transparent acryl tank is made to perform several experiments for the above research. The front flow field from jet exit is divided as 4 measuring regions to observe characteristics of the above flow field according to those with and without ultrasonic. An ultrasonic transducer with 2MHz high frequency is used to give them the ultrasonic forcing. Characteristics such as the velocity distribution, the kinetic energy and the turbulence intensity are visualized, observed, examined and considered at Re No. 2000. In results, it is clarified that the ultrasonic increases the turbulence enhancement. And the optimum and harmonious intensity suited to the power of flow is needed to maximize the turbulence enhancement.

  • An apparatus for detecting remote real-time uranium concentration using an optrode was developed. An optrode to detect uranium fluorescence as remote real-time control was designed. Fluorescence intensity at time 2ero was derived by the fluorescence signal processing and the algorithm to exclude the quenching effect of various quenchers and temperature fluctuations. This apparatus employing the above deriving method and the optrode has an error range within 6% in spite of serious fluorescence lifetime changes due to the quenching effect and temperature fluctuations. The detection limit is 0.06 ppm and the linearity is excellent between 0.06 ppm and 2 ppm on the aqueous uranium solution.

  • This study was planned to identify the effect of low-temperature stress on Alcohol dehydrogenase(ADH) isozyme in sixteen varieties of Italian ryegrass using starch gel electrophoresis. The specific electrophoretic zymograms of each variety were observed by ADH isozyme. The results were summarized as follows: 1. All tested varieties displayed two band zone by ADH and R.f values were 0.63 and 0.60, respectively. 2. There were four band type for ADH isozyme of 16 varieties classified with ADH isozyme dyeing intensity. According to dyeing intensity 7, 2, 1 and 6 varieties belong to banding type I,II,III and IV, respectively(Fig.2-A, B). 3. The effect of short tern low-temperature stress induces ADH gene expresson in Italian ryegrass, which may reflect a fundmental shift in energy metabolism to ensure plant tissue survival during the low-temperature stress period.

  • To evaluate the changes in the physical characteristics of open rainfall related to canopy effects and rainfall intensity in Korea, the terminal velocity of raindrops and drop size distributions(DSD) were continuously measured by an optical-laser disdrometer in an open site(Op) and in two forest stands(Th1: Larix leptolepis, Th2: Pinus koraiensis) during five rainfall events in 2008. The terminal velocity, DSD and two forms of kinetic energy(KE, $Jm^{-2}$ $mm^{-1}$; KER, $Jm^{-2}$ $h^{-1}$) of open rainfall drops were determined and were compared with those of throughfall drops under two different canopy heights. The effects of the canopy and rainfall intensity, together with wind speed, on the changes in drop size and kinetic energy of throughfall were evaluated. Throughfall drops were larger than open rainfall drops. The distribution of terminal velocities for the drop sizes measured at Th2 was lower than that at Op; however, at Th1 the distribution was similar to that at Op. The total kinetic energy of throughfall at Th1 and Th2 was higher than the total kinetic energy of open rainfall, and the kinetic energy distribution for the drop sizes wassimilar to the drop size distribution. The observed throughfall-KER at Th1 was lower than an estimate previously produced using a model. The overestimation from the modeled value at Th1 was likely to be due to overestimated values of a square root transformation of fall height and its coefficient in the model because the distributions of terminal velocity for the drop size measured at Th1 were similar to those of open rainfall.

  • Uncertainty is studied in the measurements of average packing density, thickness of packed spheres and transmittance in the experiments to study the effect of the bed height and the existence of the bed side walls on the transmittance of radiative energy through packed spheres. The packing density of the bed is obtained by counting the number of the spheres packed in three pipes with different heights. The bed height of the packed spheres is estimated from the number of spheres contained in the bed by using the relation between the bed height and the sphere number. The transmittance is obtained by dividing the intensity of the transmitted laser beam by the incoming-beam intensity. From the analysis, the uncertainity in the measurements of transmittance is shown to be less than 10.2%(95% coverage).

  • In this paper, we used computerized glow curve deconvolution (CGCD) software with several models for the simulation of a TL glow curve which was used for analysis. By using the general approximation plus model, parameters values of the glow curve were analyzed and compared with the other models parameters (general approximation, mixed order kinetics, general order kinetics). The LiF:Mg,Cu,Si and the LiF:Mg,Cu,P material were used for the glow curve analysis. And we based on figure of merits (FOM) which was the goodness of the fitting that was monitored through the value between analysis model and TLD materials. The ideal value of FOM is 0 which represents a perfect fit. The main glow peak makes the most effect of radiation dose assessment of TLD materials. The main peak of the LiF:Mg,Cu,Si materials has a intensity rate 80.76% of the whole TL glow intensity, and that of LiF:Mg,Cu,P materials has a intensity rate 68.07% of the whole TL glow intensity. The activation energy of LiF:Mg,Cu,Si was analyzed as 2.39 eV by result of the general approximation plus(GAP) model. In the case of mixed order kinetics (MOK), the activation energy was analyzed as 2.29 eV. The activation energy was analyzed as 2.38 eV by the general order kinetics (GOK) model. In the case of LiF:Mg,Cu,P TLD, the activation energy was analyzed as 2.39 eV by result of the GAP model. In the case of MOK, the activation energy was analyzed as 2.55 eV. The activation energy was analyzed as 2.51 eV by the GOK model. The R value means different ratio of retrapping-recombination. The R value of LiF:Mg,Cu,Si TLD main peak analyzed as $1.12\times10^{-6}$ and $\alpha$ value analyzed as $1.0\times10^{-3}$. The R of LiF:Mg,Cu,P TLD analyzed as $7.91\times10^{-4}$, the $\alpha$ value means different ratio of initial thermally trapped electron density-initial trapped electron density (include thermally disconnected trap electrons density). The $\alpha$ value was analyzed as $9.17\times10^{-1}$ which was the difference from LiF:Mg,Cu,Si TLD. The deep trap electron density of LiF:Mg,Cu,Si was higher than the deep trap electron density of LiF:Mg,Cu,P.
