Self-organization Scheme of WSNs with Mobile Sensors and Mobile Multiple Sinks for Big Data Computing

  • With the advent of IoT technology and Big Data computing, the importance of WSNs (Wireless Sensor Networks) has been on the rise. For energy-efficient and collection-efficient delivery of any sensed data, lots of novel wireless medium access control (MAC) protocols have been proposed and these MAC schemes are the basis of many IoT systems that leads the upcoming fourth industrial revolution. WSNs play a very important role in collecting Big Data from various IoT sensors. Also, due to the limited amount of battery driving the sensors, energy-saving MAC technologies have been recently studied. In addition, as new IoT technologies for Big Data computing emerge to meet different needs, both sensors and sinks need to be mobile. To guarantee stability of WSNs with dynamic topologies as well as frequent physical changes, the existing MAC schemes must be tuned for better adapting to the new WSN environment which includes energy-efficiency and collection-efficiency of sensors, coverage of WSNs and data collecting methods of sinks. To address these issues, in this paper, a self-organization scheme for mobile sensor networks with mobile multiple sinks has been proposed and verified to adapt both mobile sensors and multiple sinks to 3-dimensional group management MAC protocol. Performance evaluations show that the proposed scheme outperforms the previous schemes in terms of the various usage cases. Therefore, the proposed self-organization scheme might be adaptable for various computing and networking environments with big data.

Analysis of Solar Radiation Components in Korea (국내 일사량의 성분 분석)

  • The Knowledge of the solar radiation components are essential for modeling many solar energy systems. This is particularly the case for applications that concentrate the incident energy to attain high thermodynamic efficiency achievable only at the higher temperatures. In order to estimate the performance of concentrating thermal systems, it is necessary to know the intensity of the beam radiation, as only this component can be concentrated. The Korea Institute of Energy Research(KIER) has began collecting solar radiation component data since August, 2002. KIER's component data will be extensively used by concentrating system users or designers as well as by research institutes. The Result of analysis shows that the annual-average daily diffuse radiation on the horizontal surface is $1,458cal/m^2$ and daily direct radiation on the horizontal surface is $1,632cal/m^2$ for all over the 16 areas in Korea.

  • In this study, tubular SOFC unit cell with advanced anode current collector was fabricated to improve the cell performance. First, we prepared two types of single cells having the same manufacture processes such as the same electrolyte, electrode coating condition and sintering processes. And then to compare the developed single cell performance with conventional cells, we changed the anode current collecting methods. From the impedance analysis and I-V curve analysis, the cell performance of advanced cell is much higher than that of conventional cell.

  • The development of monitoring and analysis systems to increase productivity while saving energy is needed as a method to reduce huge amount of energy consumed in the process of producing large forged products. In this paper, we propose a system to monitor and analyze energy usage in real-time collected from gas-meter, wattmeter, and thermometer based on IoT installed in forging factories. The system consists of a data collection server for collecting and processing data from IoT- based platform and existing SCADA equipment and ERP/MES system in forging factories, and an application server for providing services to users. To develop the system, the overall system structure is logically diagrammed, and the databases configuration and implementation modules to efficiently store and manage data are presented. In the future, the system will be utilized to reduce energy consumption by analyzing energy usage pattern and optimizing process works with real-time energy usage and production process data for each facility.

  • Since the solar radiation is the main input for sizing any solar photovoltaic system, it will be necessary to understand and evaluate the insolation data. The Korea Institute of Energy Research(KIER) has begun collecting horizontal global insolation data since May, 1982 at 16 different locations. Because of a poor reliability of existing data, KIER's new data will be extensively used by solar photovoltaic system users as well as by research institutes From the results, we can conclude that 1) The yearly averaged horizontal global insolation of Korea was turned out $3.57kWh/m^2.day$ in the periods of $1982\sim2001$. 2) Horizontal global insolation of spring and summer was respectively 24 % and 21 % higher than the yearly average value, and that of fall and winter was respectively 12 % and 34 % lower than the yearly average value.

  • Solar daylighting system provides free and comfort lighting, but its design and control has been key issue due to heavy light collecting system. One of the solutions for the heavy weight issues would be using a light framed film such as fresnel and prism lens. This prototype system consists of light collector, light transformer and light guide luminaire. The light collector which is installed at window or the rooftop concentrates solar light, the collected beam is converted to suitable light by the light transformer. and the prism light guide luminaire has been used to distribute light emitted from light transformer for illumination. In this paper, the design concept and performance of light collector in this prototype system are presented.

Reliability Analysis of Solar Radiation Resources Data in Korea (국내 태양에너지 자원 데이터의 신뢰성 분석)

  • KnowledgThe Korea Institute of Energy Research(KIER) has begun collecting horizontal global insolation data since May, 1982 at different locations. Because of a poor reliability of existing data, KIER's new data will be extensively used by the solar system users as well as by research institutes. But the quality of solar insolation data is not always good. This reports on an attempt to identify systematic error in such data using clear-day analysis for data rehabilitation. Clear-day analysis is successful in uncovering solar insolation data of questionable quality. It is not proven that rehabilitation process can improve the quality of data for daily or monthly means, but it is suggested that the method can be used to improve the quality of data for monthly means of several years for use in many applications of solar energy plarming. Earlier studies finding a maximum ETR of about 0.80 are confirmed.

A Study on Accuracy Evaluation of Horizontal Global Radiation Data in Korea (국내 수평면 전일사량 데이터의 정확도 평가에 관한 연구)

  • The Korea Institute of Energy Research(KIER) has been collecting horizontal global radiation data since May, 1982 for 16 different locations. KIER's new data is expected to be extensively used by designer and researchers of solar systems in lieu of unreliable old ones. Unfortunately, the quality of the data has not always been properly mentioned. Some of them were taken at temporary field stations where the primary goal of the measurement was quick estimation of local solar radiation. The purpose of this study is to systematically identify errors in such data set using clear-day analysis in an effort to rehabilitate error-ridden old data. Clear-day analysis successfully uncovered solar radiation data that had questionable quality. Even through the rehabilitation process not necessarily improves the quality of data for daily or monthly mean, it can be used to improve the quality of data for monthly means of several years and the processed data can be used in various applications of solar energy with more confidence. A average ETR value of 0.63 obtained in this study is in good agreement with previous results obtained by other researchers.

Farm survey on the application of solar energy system to the controlled culture (태양열을 이용한 난방시스템의 시설재배 실용화 실태 조사)

  • Heating supply system using solar energy-collecting plate was examined for 20 farmers. Some problems, resolution, future energy system, and basic information were discussed, Installation cost was approximately 18 million won/20a. Main crops cultured were tomato(30%) and floricultural crop(40%). Minor crops cultured were grape, red pepper, cucumber, lettuce, and strawberry. Information was mostly obtained from agricultural service agents. 75% of farm house hold reported that energy reduction effect was below 20%, showing some different result compared with over 20% that was totalized from agricultural service agents. Cost of installation was excessive in considering energy reduction effect. Another problem was insufficient technical proficiency of solar energy company.
