  • The power demand has increased the groth of industry and improvement of life. In the past, the focus of an electric power company has been on the supply aspect of a management strategy, such as the stable provision of electric power through the construction of power equipment and least Cost planning. There has been a change of method in energy management. The balance of it seems to put forward to Demand Side Management(DSM) from Supply Side Management(SSM). Therefore, this paper is made a study for the method of energy grade of building.

  • We investigate a practical method of calculating the impact of multiple domestic energy price change on the final demand, production, the export and import change, the change in the balance of payment of Korean economy. By combining an existing computable general equilibrium (CGE) model with the traditional input-output analysis with two additional assumptions on the price behavior, we provide a cost-effective method of analyzing the impact of multiple energy price changes on the domestic economy. The energy price shock we used in this paper is 0.127% increase weighted by the sectoral productions. The total impacts on price level and GDP are 1.258% and -0.940%, respectively. The impact on the total output (GDP and intermediate goods) is about -1.580%.

  • A mathematical model for predicting the liquid circulation velocity in an airlift reactor was developed based on the mechanical energy balance of the fluid circulation loop. The model considered the energy loss due to a 90° turn, the energy loss due to friction, and the energy loss due to the change in cross-sectional area at each part of the reactor. The model that separately considered the loss coefficients related to friction, direction change, and cross-sectional area change was able to predict the liquid circulation velocity better than the previous model using lumped parameters. The liquid circulation velocity was measured by the tracer pulse method. Most of our experimental results obtained in external-loop airlift reactors, which had the top and bottom connecting pipes, as well as other investigators' results obtained in various types of airlift reactors, were well predicted by the developed model with an error within 20%. Useful empirical equations for the loss coefficient related to the 90° turn of the circulating fluid were obtained in external and internal-loop airlift reactors and used to predict the liquid circulation velocity.

  • Objectives : It is considered not easy to diagnose the condition of acupoints or meridians. Oriental Medical instruments have rarely complied with Oriental Medical diagnostic/therapeutic theories. The aim of this study was to develop a system which measures meridian electric potential(MEP) in proportion to bio-electric charge for the purpose of Oriental Medical diagnosis. Method : To evaluate a meridian energy measurement system(MEMS), we carried out a performance test. For significance test, we conducted a clinical trial which measured the MEP of ST36(Chok-samni) on Stomach Meridian(ST). Results & Conclusions : We could evaluate the balance or the imbalance of the MEPs on the left/right ST36. Also, through the comparison of MEPs before and after meals, we could identify the correlation between the MEP and the condition of internal organs. Namely, MEP reflects the condition of acupoints/meridians and internal organs, therefore, we propose this new method for measuring and analyzing the condition of meridians and acupoints for Oriental Medical diagnosis.

  • One of the important requirements for the application of reduced activation ferritic/martensitic steel is to retain proper mechanical properties in irradiation and high temperature conditions. In order to simulate the impact toughness with the effect of temperature and irradiation, a simulation model based on energy balance method consisted of crack initiation, plastic propagation and cleavage propagation stages was established. The effect of temperature on impact toughness was analyzed by the model and the trend of the simulation results was basicly consistent with the previous experimental results of CLAM steels. The load-displacement curve was simulated to express the low temperature ductile-brittle transition. The effect of grain size and inclusion was analyzed by the model, which was consistent with classical experiment results. The transgranular-intergranular transformation in brittle materials was also simulated.

  • This paper is to compare the carbon-balanced and liner air-fuel ratio determination methods for alternative fuels. In the previous work, expansion of Eltinge chart, unburned hydrocarbon compensation, comparison of the results from various methods were discussed. It has been also concluded that Eltinge method might be regarded as the most general equation of AFR determination among the existing ones. In the recent years, however, increasing demand for the environmental preservation, including global warming-up protection, and energy conservation lead to introduce the alternative fuel to the internal combustion engine. Therefore, the exact calculations of AFR for these fuels are needed. Especially, for the fuel that contains oxygen, all AFR calculation equations except Eltinge have to be re-formulated. In this paper, the AFR for alternative fuel were calculated by re-formulated carbon balance, accuracy of which was already confirmed, and linear equations, which are newly proposed by statistical method for each fuel. The results show that AFRs based on carbon balance have a little more error compared with gasoline, however, the accuracy is enough for this formula to apply to various fuel. The proposed linear equation also have excellent accuracy below $\lambda=1.2$.

  • For the Reactor Coolant System(RCS) flow rate measurement by the secondary calorimetric heat balance method, the coolant temperature of the hot leg is needed. Several Resistance Temperature Detectors(RTD) are installed in the hot leg to measure the temperature, but the average value of RTDs does not correctly represent the energy-averaged(bulk) temperature because of the thermal stratification phenomenon. Therefore some correction is introduced to predict the bulk temperature, but the correction inevitably contains uncertainty because the stratification is not defined well quantitatively yet. Therefore a large uncertainty for the correction has been used for the conservative estimation. But unrealistically large uncertainty causes degradation of the measurement method and yields difficulty to meet the acceptance criterion in start-up flow measurement test. In this paper, an analytical estimation is made on the correction and the related uncertainty using the measured hot leg velocity profile of System 80 reactor flow model test and the measured temperatures of YGN 3&4 and PVNGS 1&2 start-up tests. The results reveal that the magnitude of the correction uncertainty is much smaller than that used in the previous design. Therefore, the confidence on the flow rate measurement method can be improved and the difficulty in start-up flow measurement test can be lessened if the smaller correction uncertainty obtained through this estimation is applied.

  • The steady and dynamic process model for an internal reforming molten carbonate fuel cell power plant is discussed in this paper. The dominant thermal and chemical dynamic processes are modeled for the stack module and balance-of-plant, including cathode gas preparation, heat recovery, heat loss (Each heat loss amount for the stack and MBOP is obtained from real plant data) and fuel processing. Based on dynamic model and control demand, PID controllers are designed in the whole system. By applying these controllers we can obtain temperature balance of stack and control system depending on changing steam to carbon ratio, air feed amount, and transient condition.

  • This paper introduces balancing energy and memory consumption for lifetime increase of wireless sensor network. In cluster-based wireless sensor network, sensor nodes adjacent of cluster heads have a tendency to deplete their own battery energy and cluster heads occupy memory space significantly. If the nodes close to region where events occur frequently consume their energy and memory fully, network might be destroyed even though most of nodes are still alive. Therefore, it needs to balance network energy and memory with consideration of event occurrence probability so that network lifetime is increased. We show a method of balancing wireless sensor network energy and memory to organize cluster groups and elect cluster heads in terms of event occurrence probability.

  • Energy harvesting sensor networks have the ability to collect energy from the environment to overcome the power limitations of traditional sensor networks. The sensor network, which has a limited transmission range, delivers data to the destination node through a multi-hop method. The routing protocol should consider the power situation of nodes, which is determined by the residual power and energy harvesting rate. At this time, if only considering the magnitude of the power, power imbalance can occur among nodes and it can induce instantaneous power shortages and reduction of network lifetime. In this paper, we designed a routing protocol that considers the balance of power as well as the residual power and energy harvesting rate.
