Compact CMOS C-Band Bandpass Filter Using lnterdigital Capacitor

  • A novel miniaturized CMOS C-Band bandpass filter based on diagonally end-shorted coupled lines and interdigital capacitors is proposed. The utilized coupled lines structure reduced the configuration in size, as small as a few degrees. Moreover, the characteristic of interdigital capacitor, relatively high Q and good capacitance tolerance, accounts for the satisfied performance of this new filter. A two-stage bandpass filter was designed and fabricated with chip surface area only $1.02{\times}1.4\;mm^2$.

Bidirectional Platoon Control Using Backstepping-Like Feedback Linearization (역보행 제어 형태의 궤환 선형화를 이용한 양방향 플래툰 제어)

  • This paper proposes a bidirectional platoon control law using a coupled distance error based on the backstepping-like feedback linearization control method for an interconnected mobile agent system with a string structure. Unlike the previous results where the single agent was controlled using the only own information without other agents, the proposed control law cannot show the only distance error convergence of each agent, but also the string stability of the whole system. Also, the control performances are improved by the proposed control law in spite of low performance of bidirectional control strategy in the previous results. The proposed bidirectional platoon control algorithm is based on the backstepping-like feedback linearization control method. The position errors between each agent and the preceding and the behind agents are coupled by weighted summation. By the proposed control law, the distance error of each agent can converge to zero while the string stability is guaranteed when the coupled errors can converge to zero. To this end, the back-stepping control method is employed. The pseudo velocity input is determined considering the kinematic relationship between agents and the string stability. Then, the actual dynamic control input is determined to make the actual velocity converge to the pseudo velocity input. The stability analysis and the simulation results of the proposed method are included in order to demonstrate the practical application of the proposed algorithm.

Optimization of Sky-Bridge location at coupled high-rise buildings considering seismic vulnerability functions

  • Sky-bridges between adjacent buildings can enhance lateral stiffness and limit the impact of lateral forces. This study analysed the structural capabilities and dynamic performances of sky-bridge-coupled buildings under various sets of ground motions. Finite Element (FE) analyses were carried out with the link being iteratively repositioned along the full height of the structures. Incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) and probabilistic damage distribution were also applied. The results indicated that the establishment of sky-bridges caused a slight change in the natural frequency and mode shapes. The sky-bridge system was shown to be efficient in controlling displacement and Inter-Storey Drift Ratio (%ISDR) and reducing the probability of damage in the higher floors. The most efficient location of the sky-bridge, for improving its rigidity, was found to be at 88% of the building height. Finally, the effects of two types of materials (steel and concrete) and end conditions (hinged and fixed) were studied. The outcomes showed that coupled buildings with a sky-bridge made of steel with hinged connection could withstand ground motions longer than those made of concrete with fixed connection.

  • Ecosystem models are mathematical representations of underlying mechanistic relationships among ecological components and processes. Ecosystem modeling is a useful tool to visualize inherent complexities of ecological relationships among components and the characteristic variability in ecological systems, and to quantitatively predict effects of modification of systems due to human activities and/or climate change. A number of interdisciplinary programs in recent 20 to 30 years motivated oceanographic communities to explore and employ systematic and holistic approaches, and as an outcome of these efforts, synthesis and modeling became a popular and important way of integrating lessons learned from many on-going projects. This is a brief review that includes: background information of ecosystem dynamics model; what needs to be considered in building a model framework; biologically-physically coupled processes; end-to-end modeling efforts; and parameterization and related issues.

Analytical Research of Topside Installation in Mating phase with Crane Vessel

  • The installation of a topside structure can be categorized into the following stages: start, pre-lifting, lifting, lifted, rotating, positioning, lowering, mating, and end of installation. The transfer of the module onto the floating spar hull occurs in the last three stages, from lowering to the end. The coupled multi-body motions are calculated in both calm water and in irregular waves with a significant wave height (1.52m). The effects of the hydrodynamic interactions between the heavy lifting vessel and the spar hull during the lowering and mating stages are considered. The internal forces caused by the load transfer and ballasting are derived for the mating phases. The results of the internal forces for the calm water condition are compared with those in the irregular sea condition. Although the effect of the pitch motion on the relative vertical motion between the deck of the floating structure and the topside module is significant in the mating phases, the internal force induced pitch motion is too small to have this influence. However, the effect of the internal force on the wave-induced heave responses in the mating phases is noticeable in the irregular sea condition because transfer mass-induced draught changes for the floating structure are observed to have higher amplitudes than the external force induced responses. The impacts of the module on the spar hull in the mating phase are investigated.

Dynamic Analysis of Topside Module in Lifting Installation Phase

  • The installation phase for a topside module suggested can be divided into 9 stages, which include start, pre-lifting, lifting, lifted, rotating, positioning, lowering, mating, and end of installation. The transfer of the topside module from a transport barge to a crane vessel takes place in the first three stages, from start to lifting, while the transfer of the module onto a floating spar hull occurs in the last three stages, from lowering to the end.   • This paper focuses on the development, verification and application of a three-dimensional nite element code for coupled thermal and structural analysis of roller compacted concrete arch dams. The Ostour Arch dam located on Ghezel-Ozan River, Iran, which was originally designed as conventional concrete arch dam, has been taken for the purpose of verication of the nite element code. In this project, RCC technology has been ascertained as an alternative method to reduce the cost of the project and make it competitive. The thermal analysis has been carried out taking into account the simulation of the sequence of construction, environmental temperature changes, and the wind speed. In addition, the variation of elastic modulus with time has been considered in this investigation using Concard's model. An attempt was made to compare the stresses developed in the dam body five years after the completion of the dam with those of end of the construction. It was seen that there is an increase in the tensile stresses after five years over stresses obtained immediately at the end of construction by 61.3%.

  • This review paper describes the overall operating principle of a discrete-time delta-sigma modulator (DTDSM) and a continuous-time delta-sigma modulator (CTDSM) using a switched-capacitor (SC). In addition, research that has solved the problems related to each delta-sigma modulator (DSM) is introduced, and the latest developments are explained. This paper describes the chopper-stabilization technique that mitigates flicker noise, which is crucial for the DSM. In the case of DTDSM, this paper addresses the problems that arise when using SC circuits and explains the importance of the operational transconductance amplifier performance of the first integrator of the DSM. In the case of CTDSM, research that has reduced power consumption, and addresses the problems of clock jitter and excess loop delay is described. The recent developments of the analog front end, which have become important due to the increasing use of wireless sensors, is also described. In addition, this paper presents the advantages and disadvantages of the three-opamp instrumentation amplifier (IA), current feedback IA (CFIA), resistive feedback IA, and capacitively coupled IA (CCIA) methods for implementing instrumentation amplifiers in AFEs.

Design of Broad Band RF Components for Partial Discharge Monitoring System (부분방전 모니터링 시스템을 위한 광대역 RF 소자설계 연구)

  • In this paper we present the design of Low Noise Amplifier(LNA), mixer and filter for RF front-end part of partial discharge monitoring system. The monitoring system of partial discharge in high voltage power machinery is used to prevent many kinds of industrial accidents, and is usually composed of three parts - sensor, RF front-end and digital microcontroller unit. In our study, LNA, mixer and filter are key components of the RF front-end. The LNA consists of common gate and common source-cascaded structure and uses the resistive feedback for broad band matching. A coupled line structure is utilized to implement the filter, of which size is reduced by the meander structure. The mixer is designed using dual gate structure for high isolation between RF and local oscillator signal.
