  • Post-translational modifications of the nucleocapsid protein of bovine coronavirus (Quebec strain) were investigated. Coronavirions were radiolabelled in vivo with inorganic $[^{32}P]$orthophosphate and analysed by SDS-PAGE, followed by autoradiography. A single polypeptide with a migration rate of 55 KDa was identified by metabolic phosphate labelling, demonstrating that the nucleocapsid protein of bovine coronavirus was a phosphoprotein. A gene encoding the nucleocapsid protein was inserted immediately downstream from the polyhedrin promoter of Autographa californica nuclear polyhedrosis baculovirus. Spodoptera frugiperda cells infected with this recombinant baculovirus synthesized a 55 KDa polypeptide, as demonstrated by immunoprecipitation with anti-nucleocapsid monoclonal antibody. The recombinant nucleocapsid protein synthesized in Spodoptera cells could also be labelled by $[^{32}P]$orthophosphate. Phosphoamino acid analysis showed that both serine and threonine residues were phosphorylated in authentic, as well as in recombinant nucleocapsid proteins, with a relative phosphorylation ratio of 7:3. Our studies demonstrated that the nucleocapsid protein of bovine coronavirus was a serine and threonine-phosphorylated protein and that Spodoptera insect cells were able to properly phosphorylate the relevant foreign proteins.

  • The peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) regrowth after the clipping is one main disadvantage of space-frequency block coded orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (SFBC-OFDM). In this paper, we propose a relay assisted low PAPR technique for SFBC-OFDM transmission. For low PAPR at the source (mobile equipment), the relay processes SFBC encoding, which enables the source to transmit clipped single-input single-output (SISO)-OFDM signals without any increase of PAPR. Simulation results show that the clipped signal of proposed scheme is effectively recovered, and the proposed scheme achieves the diversity of SFBC without the complexity of multiple antennas at the source.

  • In this paper, we propose efficient rate control algorithm for video near-lossless compression. The proposed method adjusts pixel error range using amounts of previous encoded bits and target bits at a slice encoding interval. Thus, encoded bits by the proposed method are transmitted well through limited bandwidth without overflow. Also, target bits and encoded bits can be controlled according to transmission policy. Experimental results show that our proposed method not only almost fits compression ratio, but also has better image quality.

  • For motion estimation, the block matching algorithm is widely used to improve the compression ratio of low bit-rate motion video. As a newly developed fast search algorithm, the nearest-neighbors search technique has a drawback of degrading video quality while providing fisher speed in search process. In this paper, a modified nearest-neighbors search algorithm is proposed in which a double rectangular shaped search-candidate area is used to improve video quality in encoding process with a small increasing of search time. To evaluate the proposed algorithm. other methods based on the nearest-neighbors search algorithm are investigated.

  • We present a hybrid hardware architecture capable of encoding and decoding a full HD resolution video with 60 fps. A number of technical modifications are applied to an existing image compression algorithm not only to accommodate large videos at a high frame rate but to enhance the quality of synthetic images, such as characters and video game images. Image quality of the proposed algorithm at a 1/6 compression ratio was comparable to that of the BTC based 1/3 compression algorithm.

  • In this paper, it used a different pipeline method from conventional method which is encoding the video signal of analog with digital. It designed with pipeline structure of 4 phases as the pixel clock ratio of the whole operation of the encoder, and secured the stable operational timing of the each sub-blocks, it was visible the effect which reduces a gate possibility as designing by the ROM table or the shift and adder method which is not used a multiplication flag method of case existing of multiplication of the fixed coefficient. The designed encoder shared with the each sub-block and it designed the FPGA using MAX+PLUS2 with VHDL.

  • Escherichia coli RNase P is composed of a large RNA subunit (M1 RNA) and a small protein subunit (C5 protein). Since both subunits are assembled in a 1:1 ratio, expression of M1 RNA and C5 protein should be coordinately regulated for RNase P to be efficiently synthesized in the cell. However, it is not known yet how the coordination occurs. In this study, we investigated how overexpression of C5 protein affects expression of the rnpB gene encoding M1 RNA, using a lysogenic strain, which carries an rnpB-lacZ transcription fusion. Primer extension analysis of rnpB-lacZ fusion transcripts showed that the overexpression of C5 protein increased the amount of the fusion transcripts, suggesting that rnpB expression increases with the increase of intracellular level of C5 protein.

  • A model was developed for a simple clinical trial in which graders had defined probabilities of misclassifying pathologic material to disease present or absent. The authors compared Kappa between graders, and efficiency and bias in the clinical trial in the presence of misclassification. Though related to bias and efficiency, Kappa did not predict these two statistics well. These results pertain generally to evaluation of systems for encoding medical information, and the relevance of Kappa in determining whether such systems are ready for use in comparative studies. The authors conclude that, by itself, Kappa is not informative Enough to evaluate the appropriateness of a grading scheme for comparative studies. Additional, and perhaps difficult, questions must be addressed for such evaluation.

  • To improve the iron content of red pepper, we have transferred the entire coding sequence of the ferritin gene(Fpl) into Capsicum annuum (L. cv. Chungyang and Bukang) by Agrobacterium mediated transformation. Transformants were found to contain the Fp1 gene at up to three loci, increased distinct iron content changes. In transgenic plants, iron content was as much as 7-fold to 8-folds greater than that of their untransformed counterparts. Furthermore, the Rl progenies from transformant(A7, A8) co-segregated into a 15:1 ratio for both Kanamycin resistance and genotype of high iron.

  • In video compression standards, the entropy coding is essential to the high performance compression because redundancy of data symbols is removed. Binary arithmetic coding is one of high performance entropy coding methods. However, the dependency between consecutive binary symbols prevents improving the throughput. For the throughput enhancement, a new probability model is proposed for encoding multi-symbols at one time. In the proposed method, multi-symbol encoder is implemented with only adders and shifters, and the multiplication table for interval subdivision of binary arithmetic coding is removed. Compared to the compression ratio of CABAC of H.264/AVC, the performance degradation on average is only 1.4% which is negligible.
